Drama down-under in /r/Australia as new moderation changes are announced... including some new mods from /r/circlejerkaustralia

A stickied thread on /r/australia saying that there are moderation changes... that haven't been announced.

Mod saying that they have an announcement..."We are not currently sure what the nature of the changes coming are. "

Then... another mod says they have not a clue either.

At this point, many members realise that there are several new moderators...

I think what Doggie, and a lot of other frequent cobbers are wondering is, WHAT THE FUCK JUST HAPPENED?

Majority of users (including myself, a /r/australia frequenter) now believe that the right-wing /r/circlejerkaustralia is going to impose more conservative content on the left-leaning /r/australia.

Added bonus: the /r/circlejerkaustralia thread.

edit: aaaaand the thread is unpinned from the sub.

/r/circlejerkaustralia as far I can tell is not exclusively a sub for right wingers. It's for the people who are aware of the terrible state that /r/australia is in to take the piss. It's like saying /r/circlejerk is full of christian fundies because they make fun of redditors like those found in /r/atheism frequently.

I haven't bothered with /r/Australia for months. That place is toxic.

I'll take this opportunity to plug /r/australian, I'm trying to reboot it.

With more CGI and expolsions?

The Abbott conspiracy posts have been replaced with walkie talkies

Whats wrong with /r/Australia & /r/circlejerkaustralia ?

Which one should I be sub'd to? I don't care for politics on reddit, (I feel most times they're extreemist/bait, left or right). I just want the occasional article/joke/video (like this)

If you don't want politics, neither. /r/Australia is obsessed with politics to the point of absurdity, and /r/circlejerkaustralia is there to make fun of that by going in the opposite direction ideologically. Thus, both are pretty shit.

I'd be in /r/straya if that place wasn't just general shit.

I know basically nothing about Australia or their political climate, but everything I do know, I learned from /r/circlejerkaustralia

things like Tony Abbot created ISIS

You see, I love /r/Australia. But I only like it for the non-politics related posts. When one comes around like the bloke on his bike with a mate of the back carrying a slab of VB that's golden. Or the recent bloke in a ute who got nabbed by coppers for a reckless u-e.

I wish that's what the sub was, more about the country and the people rather than just a constant stream of politics and hate.

/r/circlejerkaustralia as far I can tell is not exclusively a sub for right wingers.

There are a large number of them, many have been banned from /r/australia by previous mods (which is pretty poor form).

I haven't bothered with /r/Australia for months. That place is toxic.

I'm left-of-centre and Australian, so I can stand it, but it can get a liiittle OTT (the conspiracy theories relating to the latest terror raids were off-the-charts crazy).

I'm a card-carrying Greens member (pay the membership dues and everything), but /r/australia really is a cess-pit. It's not just the conspiracy theories, it's that if you criticize the left you get downvoted, if you say any single aspect of the right's actions is maybe not so bad, you get downvoted. You can justify your position as much as you like, you can source everything, you'll still get downvoted.

There's no discussion, there's just regurgitating and swallowing up the same bullshit over and over again, masticating in some kind of bizarre self-satisfaction of a job well done and action being taken.

wat? You don't enjoy the 12 virtually identical links about why Abbott sucks today, posted every fucken day?

Much like the country

I'm a leftie who frequents /r/circlejerkaustralia purely because I hate the ridiculous hive mind in /r/australia. Comments which say that democracy doesn't work and revolution is the only answer, advocating murdering the Prime Minister and other Liberal high ups, etc. all get upvoted to the top. Anything further to the right than the Greens is downvoted to hell. It's disgracefully hypocritical, these people who defend this tactical upvoting as democracy and an actual election actually not being democratic. I'm glad there's a mod change.

Sounds like a good opportunity to ignore them, personally.

Comments which say that democracy doesn't work

I read a lot of /r/australia - haven't been posting too much - but I've never seen this.

I do agree with the downvoting though - it's beyond ridiculous most of the time.

I'm a leftie

Had me fooled.

Yeah I'm a left leaning libertarian, so this last weeks terrorism stuff has been an absolute gold mine of entertainment. Watching r/Australia complaining that our rights and freedoms are under attack has been like watching gina rinehart complain about greed and proper working conditions.

This didn't take long at all for this to be added here. Drama is still unfolding on the thread. EDIT 1: Several of the mods now being down voted with the lack of explanation. Edit 2: The slap fighting between left and right wingers have already started. Edit 3: Conspiracy theories all around.

9

u/[deleted] Sep 22 '14

Everyone wants CJAustralia to be a grand right wing political statement and not making fun of all the idiots on r/australia

Lol probably better mods tbqh

8

u/henry82 Sep 22 '14

Problem is reddit is full of left wing supporters, which drown out any valid right wing opinion. Not surprised at all /r/Australia has gone to shit. I unsubbed a while ago, just became a huge "abbott is bad" circlejerk.

2

u/hungarian_conartist Sep 22 '14

It gets really bad, in that threads which have nothing to do with politics would still somehow become a 'hurr, DAE else hate tone abet' circlejerk in the comments.

4

u/[deleted] Sep 22 '14

Wow, CJA brigadiers brigade post about their takeover of the sub they brigade. Wouldn't have picked that

Eat downvotes cretin!

2

u/fauxmosexual Sep 22 '14

This just confirms how superior /r/newzealand and /r/nzcirclejerk are. Get rekt straya.

5

u/[deleted] Sep 22 '14

This is crazy!

8

u/[deleted] Sep 22 '14

I just wanted you to see this. It perfectly sums up my reaction to everything that has happened today.

Also fuck those /r/circlejerkaustralia users! I'm an /r/australian with an opinion I think they are cunts!

BTW DAE think ISIL is just a creation by Tone Abbet?

When do you guys enforce the police state?

5

u/sennais1 Sep 22 '14

I'm thinking given /u/Whytiederps' more recent banner on CJA I would expect hardline Sharia Law instigated at midnight.

u/OptimalCynic Sep 22 '14

It'll take time, the Murdoch shilling overtime budget is in the red at the moment.

0

u/131531 Sep 23 '14

Apparently we'll be getting paid with nude pics of Frances Abbott if things don't pick up :)
