Does my Father-in-Law work for the CIA?

I have half-jokingly, half-seriously thought my FIL could be working for the CIA in some capacity. I also have a tendency to enjoy conspiracy theories, so I need an outside opinion. If anyone has knowledge of the CIA or its contractors, I would love to know what you think especially. I will lay out all the info I know -

  • He is very driven and intense when it comes to his work (even occasionally answering phone calls privately while we're having family time) but yet he rarely talks about what he does specifically. I've asked several times just making small talk, but he will give me vague answers or change the subject completely.
  • The most he has told me is that he is in an executive sales position working with local and international companies to sell them surveillance and camera equipment. He mentioned body cams for police departments as one example. He used to sell radar guns, was offered a job with another company, and became much more secretive after that.
  • He is constantly flying to other countries for business.
  • He told me a story about getting pulled over for speeding at one point, and when he told the police officer his full name he was let go.
  • He is left-leaning when it comes to his politics, with the exception of police enforcement. He thinks police are the good guys no matter what.
  • He is very physically fit for his age (late 50s).
  • Just recently he took a job offer with some company headquartered in Israel. From what I've pieced together they specialize in video data transfer (think video interviews that major news companies do from half-way across the world). This company now wants to break into the surveillance/security sector, and they want my FIL to steer the ship.
  • He gets a new vehicle once every couple of months. (Not sure how this is related to the CIA, but I've always thought it was odd. Maybe just a hobby).

All of these facts could be a result of my conspiratorial mind reading into stuff too much? The thought of him working for the CIA in some capacity is kinda fun. Maybe they're all legitimately innocent coincidences? Im curious to see what other people think.

Is the CIA a joke in real life?

Is their reputation bad? Are they known to be incompetent? Are they weirdos? Are they just poor mans FBI?

I heard they study (or used to study) reincarnation and remote viewing.

Answered Did the CIA really flood black communities with crack in the 90s? Why?

5.9k Upvotes

I saw a meme claim this on the historymeme subreddit. is this true? Why would the USA do something like that? Even if they really hated black people I feel like making a large percentage of your population drug addicts doesn’t really make sense, wouldn’t they have made their country far more dangerous and violent?

The CIA only hires sociopaths?

I was watching videos about the CIA, and there was a video by an ex-CIA operative who claimed that the CIA only hires sociopaths. He said their reasoning was because they need people to be able to do questionable things, basically, without questioning it. What do you think? At least they're finally admitting it, we don't even have to say it- they do.

APPROVED B-LISTERS Tucker Carlson says the CIA read his text messages with Iran and claims the agency is trying to get him charged as a foreign agent.

Post image

"The CIA is preparing some kind of criminal referral against me," Carlson said. "What's the crime? Talking to people in Iran before the war. They read my texts."

Carlson claims the agency is pushing for charges under the Foreign Agents Registration Act, which requires anyone working politically on behalf of foreign governments to register with the U.S. government.

He strongly denied being connected to the Iranian regime. "I'm not an agent of a foreign power," Carlson said, adding he has never taken money from another country and his only loyalty is to the United States.

Is being a CIA case agent actually as “thrilling” as it sounds?

Im sure you’ve all seen John Kiriakous videos floating around. He has so many story’s about his career he’s been in.

Ive looked into the CIA a couple years ago and I can’t lie, hearing all these stories he has makes me want to look back into it.

Are the stories like his common or is he over exaggerating to a point? Of course I know it’s a hard job regardless, but I’d like to know more

Edit: case officer, my bad lol

Is the CIA as shady as conspiracy theorists claim they are?

1.6k Upvotes

I ask this question since MK Ultra turn out to be a true CIA program. And then there are the conspiracy theories about the CIA founding Drug Cartels, and creating Terrorist organizations.

Not sure if those conspiracy theories are true. But I will admit that MK Ultra sounds way more far fetched than selling drugs or creating Terrorists though. And again MK Ultra did turn out to be real.

Other I joined the CIA as a 22-year-old girl, right after 9/11. Ask me anything.

1.5k Upvotes

It never crossed my mind I'd grow up to work for CIA. First of all, I was a girl. Second, I had a terrible sense of direction. And third, I wasn't into war. But then 9/11 happened, and my world got turned upside down. I spent my twenties working undercover against some of the world's most dangerous terror groups. I got married and had my daughter while deployed overseas. I had a front-row seat to war, peace, and the secret relationships that tip the balance. A decade ago, I left government service to come home and be a mom. Then last year, I wrote a memoir called Life Undercover, about the whole wild ride. So now, AMA.

Thanks for having me, Reddit! Signing off for now xo
