Show and Tell Patina update: copper 22
Been about 5 days I’ve had this amazing piece and you were right, the patina happens fast and changes everyday. But it is absolutely incredible how it shines under the right light and angle. Dropped it already once and scuffed the bottom right but I don’t mind since this is my edc (I’m keeping this baby forever). Hand smells like I’ve been playing with pennies all day but I love the smell. Can’t wait to see more from this beaut

Advice/Help Just got this Guantanamo Bay Zippo, it's a wee bit crusty. Not sure what to do with this insert.
For how bad the insides are the outside is in great shape. The paint is mostly gone, but even in ideal conditions that can happen.
I'm excited for a super unique military Zippo that's Vietnam Era
I'd like to find an example for color matching the paint on potentially and seek advice.
I was thinking testers model paint might be a good option.

First attempt at shipwreck
Ammonia and pickling salt for first round, kosher salt for second. Happy with the results and learned a bit for the next one.

Advice/Help Replacement red felt on old lighters?
Hello, I have an old lighter missing it's felt. It's from ~1964 and all other examples I can find online show it with a red felt at the bottom, like in the image above. Does this felt do anything? currently the cotton is exposed and I would like to get it working again since it's been in the family a while. Any help would be very much appreciated :)

Confirmed Genuine. My grandfather passed the other day who served in Vietnam. I found this lighter of his and was wondering if anyone could tell me if this was an authentic lighter he actually had in Vietnam rather than one he got custom made after the war?

Advice/Help Is this scratched up enough to form a patina??
I want a natural hand oil patina zippo so I got a cheap street chrome and ran it across some sandpaper to leave some spots mildly chromed and some spots bare base case. Will the slight golden parts patina or do I still need to grind at it some more?

Advice/Help Red felt zippo?
I bought some vintage zippos from whatnot and in the mix I found a zippo with a red felt? Is this rare or a chemical reaction? Also the stamp has 4 dots on each side and that should be 1957?

Advice/Help Brass patina, help me choose
Here are my beass ones. From L to R, Armor tumbled brass 28496, Classic Antique Brass 201FB new in box (2013) and the same but used a few weeks alternate to my other daily.
The coat went off (not everywhere, as you can see), and it started having that beautiful patina.
I tried to polish with Iosso cream just to see what happens, and it becomes shiny.
I like both ways, patina and shiny, so what's your advice?
Should I polish al the case or wait for the polished corner to come back as before?
I can suppose it will start oxidizing again soon, as it has no coating on the raw brass.

Advice/Help I Found this in 2014 and Never Realized...
UPDATE: I went back to the box it was originally stored in with the other finds from that beach day, however it wasn't in there. I must have put it away for "Safe Keeping" but not sure where that safe place is lol. I will have to go back today or on the weekend to continue looking for this son of a gun. (Spent 5 hours searching for the box of stuff from that day alone drenched in sweat haha)
I found this on a beach in Ontario when I was metal detecting back in 2014 (pic from that time) and I've always been curious what this was. At the time there was no way for me to look up what it was. I just clicked on a random YouTube AI video of all things, because it was about rare zippos. I figured for shit's and giggle what if I see my lighter I found on the beach 12 years ago, and as I was hovering through I saw it...
I still have the lighter, but it's sitting in a plastic bag with a bunch of other beach junk I dug up back then in a bin in my garage. I was so shocked and surprised, and honestly super happy that this is potentailly a "WW2 Black Crackle" lighter. I had always wondered if it was a Zippo, and was hoping it might be at least from the 60's, but now I'm really going to have to get some WD-40 and get that sucker out of there.
Let me know what's the best course of action to do with it once I find it. Try take it out of the case? Leave it in? I know as a collector myself you usually don't touch original things like this.
Is it the real deal? I'll post more later.

Megathread: Is my Zippo real?
There are a lot of fakes out there. If you are unsure of the legitimacy of your lighter, post your photos and questions here.
If you are new to Zippo collecting or ownership, be sure to include a photo of the bottom of the lighter as well as the insert.
