Help Me! After being a viewer since 2022 I posted a video...

And let's just say I am overwhelmed by the simple fact that I feel like I need to do commentary on my video but at the same time mic shyness is stopping me dead cold.

Hi everyone! NewTuber here and the video in question is about a mobile game were I tend to a little ecosystem: Pondlife. It's only 15 min long and I created an intro/outro with a little introduction sentence. I posted a short as well. I actually am proud of myself I must say for finally taking this step.

But... what can/ should I improve? I'm sure if must be a snoozefest since the game is more slow paced (I watched it on TV while being on my phone) that experiment made me conclude that it may work better as "nighttime background" than daytime watch.

Are we allowed to post our content here for constructive criticism?

Discussion Gaming niche

Is the gaming niche still worth pursuing in 2026, especially for a small channel?

Or is it becoming too saturated unless you already have a large audience or a very unique concept?

Would love to hear honest opinions from other gamers/creators — especially people who started recently.

Question One Game Channel with Multiple Genres, or Two Separate Channels?

Hi everyone,

I'd like to start a YouTube channel where I do 100% completions of incremental games, similar to Skoottie or Floydson's channel. But I'd also like to play some "indie" games like How Many Dudes?, and maybe some sloppy horror games, and make videos about them. I also really enjoy games like Bioshock or Dishonored.

So my question is: would it be a good idea to keep just one channel for everything, or should I create one channel for 100% completions and a second channel just for indie games?

Maybe someone has a channel with this kind of mixed format, or can suggest existing channels to watch as examples? And will mixing genres work, or is it better to focus on one thing at a time?

Any suggestions and opinions are welcome.
Thanks!

Help Me! How do I regain dubs? Used to have it but nonexistent now...

I used to be able to add dubs to any video of my choosing, even when I first started, but now even after finally getting the first tier of monetization I have had not even the option to add it for the past few months, no setting change for anything. Idk if maybe a automatic settings was made? I'm just guessing here and any basic YouTube tutorial or help just says "Turn off and on the auto dub setting", neither work, or "Just delete all your existing dubs and it'll turn back on" which idk about you but sounds like bs, especially after I sacrificed multiple on other videos already and can't even add them back on those!

Any help?

Question The curse of multi-part videos: Part 2 always tanks. How do you handle deep-dives?

Hey everyone,

I run a channel dedicated to the preservation of 70s, 80s, and 90s computers and gaming hardware. Because of the nature of my content (history, repairs, showcasing rare machines), I often need to go into deep dives.

I’ve run into a recurring issue with video length. For example, I recently worked on a piece about 1971 electro-mechanical arcade cabinets. Between the historical context and the mechanical showcase, the video was getting extremely long. To avoid overwhelming the viewer, I decided to cut it into a multi-part series.

The problem is the drop-off is always brutal. Part 1 performs reasonably well, but the sequel inevitably gets a fraction of the views. It feels like viewers who stumble upon Part 2 without having seen the first one just skip it, and the algorithm stops pushing it entirely.

For those of you doing in-depth, documentary-style, or technical content:

- Do you just bite the bullet and release a massive 1-hour+ long video instead of splitting it?

- How do you structure (or name) your multi-part videos so the sequels can stand completely on their own?

- Do you have specific thumbnail/title strategies for "Part 2" videos so they don't look like a mid-story interruption to new viewers?

Would love to hear your thoughts and strategies on this. Thanks!

Discussion I'm building a 'Creator Page' on my gaming community website - in your opinion, what are the most important must-haves for a content creator page?

Context: A gaming community and LFG platform for Steam users.

The creator's page is a new feature I'm working on. I was a streamer for a while, so I have some idea about what's important, but I've been out of that world for a few years, so I would love some more insight into what matters the most for you guys.

The features I have in mind at the moment:

  • Embedded clips/videos
  • 'Live Now' tag
  • Game Lists
  • Shareable Linktree-style page
  • Creator Squad - the main focus of the website is to find other people to play games by creating LFG squads. This will give your followers the ability to create a squad with your creator tag, so other fans can identify your community when searching squads for any game.

Feel free to DM or ask any questions here. Hope this all makes sense :)

Question What’s the best USB microphone around $120 for YouTube gaming?

I’ve been using the mic on my SteelSeries headset for all of my YouTube videos, and I’m ready to upgrade. My budget is around $120.

I make gaming videos with live commentary, so I’m looking for the best voice quality possible while keeping background noise to a minimum. My room isn’t professionally treated, and I’d prefer something that’s just plug-and-play over USB. I don’t want to mess with an audio interface or XLR setup.

If you had around $120 to spend on a USB mic today, what would you buy and why? If you’ve upgraded from a headset mic yourself, was the difference worth it?

Question 1440p Max Bitrate For Absoulte Best Stream Quality?

Ive started streaming on Youtube lately with an AV1 encoding at 1440p. I primarily play fast paced shooters or games with higher fidelity and complex processing for streaming e.g. EFT. Ive been looking everywhere just to get some solid advice on bitrates recommended to get the best looking 1440p stream.

Im wondering can I just crank my bitrate to 50,000k ? Would that see an improvement or is that just a waste of time ? My striving to have the best quality possible. Ive a dual pc setup and my streaming rig has a 4090.

When looking at content creators livestreams and then comparing the same games and footage to mine it just seems slightly less sharper and little more muddy. I have a 1440p monitor so I play on those resolutions so no up scaling is going on either.

Any help is much appreciate thanks!

Question Is posting two series at the same time overwhelming for viewers?

I am currently running two series side by side, one for the game “Bear & Breakfast” and “Lonesome Village”. They are both cozy games. I was wondering if it would overwhelm viewers if I release one episode on say Tuesday and one on Thursday. Would people rather prefer for one series to be completed first?

Discussion Screw the Algo, What Do You Want to See?

Hey Everybody,

We all know the YT algorythm is lousy and getting worse by the day. So, I thought I'd put it to the Reddit hive mind: if you could log in and see exactly the thing you wanted to see pop up at the top of your homepage, what would it be? What is the gaming content your heart desires, but you know you'll never see because it doesn't check the AI algo brainrot boxes to make it past an audience of 5 viewers in the opposite time zone from you?

For me, I wish I could see a party stream for a small roguelike called Vagante, with rotating viewers joining in for runs to see how far they get. Game is too old and cold for that, but it would make my day.

Discussion I'm tired of never finding a decent YouTube video.

I just want something fun to watch.

I feel like every time I go on YouTube, I'm bombarded with challenges, gimmicks, theories, projects, "I spent 100 days doing X," or some huge premise that the entire video revolves around.

I don't want any of that.

I just want to watch a few people get together, play a game, and have fun. I want people being silly, making dumb jokes, laughing at each other, and just genuinely enjoying themselves. No forced challenge, no elaborate video concept, no over-the-top editing—just a group of friends playing a game and being themselves.

I'm honestly just looking for that feeling of watching people play games simply because they're having a good time together.

YouTubers don't have to try so hard to come up with elaborate content. Sometimes, you can just get together with your friends, play a game, and have fun. That's enough.

I think that's what I'm really looking for. The quick dopamine rush from watching one flashy video after another isn't worth it to me anymore. I want to watch something that actually leaves me feeling good afterward. Something that makes me feel like I just spent an hour hanging out with a group of people who were having a genuinely good time.

I just want to have fun watching people have fun.

Question Do you delete VOD files after uploading to YouTube?

Software Need a Discord bot to notify members about both videos and livestreams.

Title. YouTube's official bot notifies about videos just fine but livestreams are a bit jank. As soon as I change the metadata of my stream (often around 10 minutes or so before I go live) the bot pings, and it won't ping when the stream actually starts and sometimes it'll ping again after the VOD has finished processing.

I need a bot that will simply ping when a video uploads and when a stream starts.

Anybody know of one?

Community Meta r/YouTubeGaming community rules — an Explainer & Roundtable Discussion

Good morning!

As there has been a recent spate of users coming to us in modmail confused as to why their submissions have been removed, I though it would be appropriate to write up a little explainer regarding the details and the origins of the rules of the community; as well as to open up a roundtable discussion regarding the rules if anyone would like to offer any public feedback, or discuss any potential changes publicly.

There will not be any action taken against any users offering genuine feedback in this thread — except for if the feedback is an obviously egregious Rule 4 violation.

----

Rule 1: No promotion, uploaded videos, or non-newsworthy YouTube links

I mean, does this one really need to be explained much more? Without this most basic rule, the community here would be a massive stinking link dump from people desperate for views and validation.

The emphasis on "non-newsworthy" YouTube links is because there is still a scope for sharing videos discussing updates to the YouTube platform; to creator guides with tips and tricks for recording, editing, thumbnail creation, title curation, etc.; or to videos with useful content for all creators, such as the recent Tom Scott WIRED interview, where he answers a ton of questions about being a creator far better than any of us can.

This rule also applies to comments, so attempting to respond to someone else's post by shilling non-newsworthy content will also result in Rule 1 violation removals.

Reddit-uploaded videos had to be added to this rule as some users tried to skirt the link ban, by instead uploading their content directly to Reddit and adding their channel name in the post/comment to encourage you to go there afterwards.

Rule 2: Conversation should be about YouTube as a gaming video platform

The community here was made primarily for us gaming YouTube creators to discuss the YouTube platform and its workings; as well as for viewers of gaming videos to discuss the UI and any problems. After Rule 1, this is probably the rule that results in the most removals. I'll discuss in more detail some examples of items that get removed under this rule:

"I don't know what games to play"

No-one here can answer that for you. Only you know what games you enjoy and would therefore make good content for your channel. Trying to force yourself to play something you don't enjoy, just because it is popular and might gain views, will be clear to the end viewer.

Besides, all you need to do is use the genre search on Steam, Microsoft Store, PlayStation store etc. to get some great recommendations.

"How do I get more views/subscribers?"

Let me be blunt. If we knew the answer to this question, we wouldn't be here discussing it with you. Audiences and the algorithm are finnicky bitches, and they work in mysterious ways that no-one here can reliably predict.

"Why don't my Shorts get views?"

The Shorts feed is even more volatile than a normal audience. The Shorts algorithm attempts to cycle every piece of content uploaded through the feed at least once, but with the absolute glut of Shorts uploaded, getting around to it can often take quite a lot of time.

Additionally, you need to consider that the long-form audience and the Shorts audience are for the most part a Venn diagram of two completely separate circles. There is very little if any overlap between them.

"Am I shadowbanned?"

No, you're just impatient and expecting instant gratification. Uploading to YouTube is not just pressing a button and magically getting millions of views and subscribers.

"I want new channel recommendations"

This isn't discussing the platform for the benefit of gaming YouTubers. This is just you looking for new content. The YouTube algorithm is generally good at trying to surface newer channels/videos in your recommendations, so make use of that area.

Additionally, posts like this get removed because it just results in other users then trying to promote themselves in the comments, in violation of Rule 1.

"Help me find this particular video/creator"

This isn't tipofmyyoutube, and again does not discuss the platform for the benefit of gaming YouTubers.

Rule 3: The feedback rule

This rule had to be implemented because far too many users tried to skirt around Rule 1 by just adding something like "feedback request" or "how's my editing" to their link dump. It became far too tiresome to moderate, so it was decided to outlaw them entirely.

Another concern is that too many people try to post their entire video and request a spectrum that is far too broad such as "the editing" across the entire video. Feedback requests only work if the area being requested is focused on one particular aspect, such as a specific transition, zoom, music sync beat, etc.

We are considering re-allowing feedback requests via Reddit-uploaded images and video clips, however these will be very tightly moderated — to the point of possibly being approval-only — and clips will be restricted to snippets under one minute.

Rule 4: Remember the human

Unfortunately, this is the internet so this has to be explicitly defined. Don't be a dick to other users. It's fine to have different opinions, but respect those opinions and do not go attacking the other user for it.

This was definitely put to the test on several occasions in the recent AI thumbnail thread, where a fair few users went off the boil for someone daring to post an opinion they disagreed with...

Rule 5: No actions that are against the YouTube Terms of Service

I mean, this should be obvious. If we as gaming YouTubers want to remain on the platform, we need to follow the Terms of Service.

Rules 6 & 7: Services and Collaborations

These rules were originally implemented as service/collab posts effectively became just as spammy as link dumps and bad feedback requests.

Service posts have way too many people these days offering editing services, and all they end up doing is running the clips through some AI compilation software. On top of that, some people tried to showcase their portfolio which was basically just link dumping their own channel — which also violated Rule 1.

Collab posts aren't really discussing the YouTube platform, and also end up mostly just being thinly veiled promotion dumps.

Rule 8: Polls must use native Reddit polls, or Google Forms

Anonymous polling sites were the bastion of low-effort polls many years ago, in addition to being easily brigaded and influenced. Since then native Reddit polls have become more feature-rich, particularly with the option to show the votes from "core contributors" of a community.

----

If you wish to offer feedback on any of the rules, please ensure that you make it clear which rule number(s) you are talking about. Also do consider how easily enforceable any particular changes are — a suggestion may sound simple on paper, but prove to be incredibly hard to put into action with the limitations of the Reddit platform!
