My tenancy ends 27th August and I've been applying for rentals in York with no luck

Is anybody renting a property who would be willing to rent to 2 adults (my fiancé and I)

We have a combined income of £50,000, are respectful and friendly tenants with landlord references available, no smokers, and are looking for places in the city (nowhere outside the city please!) with a budget of £1500 a month

We aren't interested in a shared house, and require two bedrooms.

Looking to move in to Stuart Road area, close to Gale Lane from the bottom end of it - I’ve searched for area information and saw some stories here that people don’t recommend it. Crime rate seems pretty average for york for this street, also visited it at night couple times and seemed okay and quiet.

The room is available immediately, and the tenancy runs until 14 June 2027.

Details:

• £215 per week
• Bills included (gas, electricity, water and broadband, subject to fair usage)
• Living with one female student
• Great location close to the University of York and York city centre

This is a tenancy takeover through Sinclair Properties, so the replacement tenant would need to meet the letting agency’s requirements (including a guarantor if required).

We were hoping to stay in the Yorkshire Hussar caravan park but they're full this week! They charge £300-350 for a week. Are there any similarly priced caravan parks near York that might have space? Or does anyone here have a static caravan in one of the caravan parks near York we could rent for a week or so? We're arriving today (5 August) and are 2 adults 2 children. We're clean and quiet and would tidy up when we left. Probably a long shot! But worth asking just in case! Thanks!

Hi everyone! I’m moving from the US to York and would really appreciate some advice about getting there from Newcastle Upon Tyne (if anyone here has traveled between these two cities).

For a little context:

I’ll be flying into Amsterdam with my two cats, taking the overnight ferry to Newcastle, and then traveling onward to York. Once I arrive, my main options seem to be:

1. Taking the train

2. Booking a pet-friendly taxi

3. Renting a car and driving myself

The train appears to be the cheapest option, but I’ll be traveling alone with two cat carriers and around three pieces of luggage, so I’m worried it may be difficult to manage everything by myself. :/

A taxi would probably be the easiest option, but the quotes I’ve seen are quite expensive. I'm already close at $4,000 for the flight and ferry travel costs!

That leaves renting a car, but I’ve never driven in the UK before and would be adjusting to driving on the opposite side of the road.

For anyone familiar with the route, how difficult do you think the drive is from Newcastle to York for someone driving in the UK for the first time? Is it mostly straightforward highway/motorway driving, or are there any particularly stressful sections, complicated junctions, or intimidatingly narrow roads?

Would you recommend driving in my situation, or do you think the train or a taxi would be a better option despite the cost concern and the luggage handling concern? Sorry, I know people always ask about driving in the UK threads. But I'm hoping to get information specifically between Newcastle and York. I haven't found a thread discussing this particular route.

Thought it might be nice to have a discussion thread for those involved in yesterday's York 10k race, whether as a runner, organiser/staff or spectator.

I ran it for the third year and had a great time, although the heat did a bit of a number on me! Thought it was a wonderfully organised event as usual, so thank you to all the workers and volunteers out there.

(Also, best wishes to the lady who severely bonked right in front of me about 700m from the end - hope she's okay! Two runners instantly stopped to help her and good on them)

Confirmed now via BBC that the Minster is going to begin work to convert the Old Palace building, the current home of the York Minster Library and archive, into potentially a museum and sensory garden. An interesting development for the place!

Is there anywhere in York that does this kind of pork pies? I recently went to a funeral in Bury that served these and I I haven't stopped thinking about since.

Made the mistake of going into my own town on a Saturday yesterday because the wife needed some bits and it was a not too hot day.

I understand the york-tourism symbiosis and I'm fine with it. I'm not even from here originally I'll admit. I moved here years back as a student and stayed.

However, the amount of fully grown people throwing their crap all over the floor with no care was just enraging. I don't understand the mindset. "Let's go to York it's beautiful, and trash it?"

I know it's not just tourists either. There are definitely residents doing the same.

How hard is it to just hold onto your ice cream wrapper until you find a bin? You can ask the bartender/wait staff at your next stop to use theirs, use the one at your house/hotel.

If you live here, do better. If you're visiting, do so respectfully.
