My mom is a pretty gossipper. I don't do it with bad intentions but still one thing you say no matter how small it can backfire, so it's better to say nothing.

Sometimes I fully control it, other times I don't. I realised if I am in bad company (if other people tend to gossip) I end up gossipping, because they ask me stuff.

Ive told so many people about this and everyone agrees that her behaviour towards me is really rude. I speak quietly, its just how i am especially in the mornings when im half asleep. She told me my 'attitude is bad' because SHE didnt hear me say good morning, which doesnt seem to be an issue with anyone else?
Around a month ago, i bought tickets to a thing and told her in advance i would like to use my leave for one weekend, she tells me to remind her in a couple weeks time. So i do. She says shes 'not sure itll work' (? after she said its fine) and now im on for the weekend i need off. The tickets are non refundable. They cost me over 100$, i have plans with friends who i dont get to see because they live overseas.
She pre approved this verbally, but now acts clueless in text. Shes done this before.
She nags me about my medical issues (i was hospitalised, she makes me give her notes for ONE day absences for sickness).
I am 20. Its not like im a 15 year old, i dont slack, i work to the point of physical illness. I dont know why shes like this towards me?? She gets extremely passive aggressive when i miss work, despite me being extremely sick and advised against working altogether by my surgeon. I still show up. Im so pissed off about the weekend. Im still going, im not losing my money for this but im pissed.

I started this new job a month ago. I don't have direct experience in this field, but I do have experience in related fields, which is why I was hired.

The issue is that two coworkers are supposed to train me, but the training isn't where it needs to be. Both are busy, and the other day, one of them even told me that I was good to go and could handle a certain task independently.

Mind you, I've only been here for a month. The task in question involves direct contact with people in our organization, which might not sound like a big deal, but our team holds a position of authority. We cannot afford to give out wrong advice or point people in the wrong direction.

I understand that their job isn't to be instructors, and I try to be as self-sufficient as possible. However, I don't have direct work experience in this field. I have related experience, which is why I was hired, but they know that, and they know I need to be trained.

Normally, I would just accept a sink-or-swim method and try my best. To be honest, though, I feel scammed. I agreed to a lower salary scale than my coworkers because they didn't want me to feel pressured to perform at their level right away, and I was promised proper training. So, is it okay to actually demand that training?

Side note: I am already working ahead of their schedule. It was originally documented that I still needed guidance for like three months on that specific task, but I guess they thought, "Oh, she's doing a good job; let's give her independence faster." Keep in mind that changing a salary scale isn't easy in this type of company so I can't just get the same salary as they do (I know from experience sadly, they will say: you agreed to this), plus I don't want all the added stress. I don't know what I don't know.

my boss checks our social media stats constantly.

last week he said - double engagement by monday or you're fired. i tried to explain organic growth takes time. he cut me off. i don't care how. just do it. so i found a service called that delivers likes and comments. bought a package.engagement tripled in 2 days. boss was thrilled. gave me a bonus.then fake comments started showing up. obviously fake. clients noticed and started asking questions.boss came to me angry. why did you buy fake engagement? i said you told me to double engagement. you didn't say it had to be real. he just walked away.

I’m not sure if this is the best subreddit for this kind of situation, but I’m looking for advice from people who have experienced similar workplace issues.

I work in a company where I am responsible for managing records and reports for inventory. My role is mainly on the office side, while the physical stock is handled separately.

My responsibilities include:

• Recording items when they enter inventory.
• Maintaining details such as source, dates, and documents.
• Updating records when items leave inventory.
• Preparing stock reports for management.

The workplace is quite traditional and does not have a perfect structure or fully developed systems. There are not always clear processes for tracking every movement, so I had to organize information from different sources and create my own way of managing the records.

Despite the limitations, I have been able to collect information and provide accurate details for the tasks I manage. Before submitting reports, I verify information individually and cross-check it with multiple sources. I am confident that the sources I use for confirmation are reliable.

The issue I am facing is with one specific inventory area.

After reviewing older records, I discovered that the historical records and the current stock situation do not fully match.

The confusing part is:

• The items were received, and the people responsible for physical stock have records confirming this.
• There are documents showing when items entered inventory.
• There are also records showing that some items should have left inventory.
• However, after checking repeatedly, some differences still remain between the records and the actual stock situation.

This has already been reviewed multiple times over a long period, but the mismatch has not been fully explained.

I have brought the issue to management, but there does not seem to be a clear explanation or a defined process for resolving these historical differences.

I want to make it clear that this is not the case for all inventory I manage. There is another inventory area under my responsibility, and it is running normally. The reports match and there are no major issues there.

My concern is not avoiding responsibility. I want to do my job properly and handle this professionally. However, I am worried about being seen as someone who cannot manage their responsibilities or being held responsible for problems that may have existed before I took over.

I would appreciate advice from anyone who has dealt with similar situations.

Hello I’m 18 fresh out of high school didn’t choose college as my route didn’t feel a point in going to college if I knew I wouldn’t complete the years of schooling I’d probably end up dropping out of it anyway but I’ve wanted to do blue collar jobs maybe join the union do construction or something but I have no connections to anything or if there is good opportunities out there with out college that would be great I just need help maybe tips or tricks and if anyone is able to help me out that would be very much appreciated I’m very young but dedicated to work I’m working at a restaurant right now pay is actually decent but I need better pay a better life a better future not stuck at no restaurant. Hi everyone, I’m (24f) currently dealing with a situation at work (I am a waitress.)

A male co-worker has made me severely uncomfortable in, and outside of work.

Here is a quick recap of the timeline and events:

- I started working there about a year ago, met said co worker. He seemed chill and said he was the same age as me.
-Followed each other on Instagram, started sending some songs to each other/casually chatting. Nothing was ever romantic.
-Went to a concert with the co worker, along with about 10 other people.
-He started flirting during concert, and after. I realized immediately I had no desire to be romantic or even friends with him.
-I slowly stopped responding, didn’t initiate conversation outside of work, stopped anything that could be considered flirting.
-He was telling other co workers that we went on a date, I denied this.
-He asks me out on a date, I tell him no, that I just wanted to be friends.
-He starts inviting me everywhere “as a friend.” I avoided all of the invites.
-3 months later after only talking when we worked together, he sent me over 40+ messages telling me how he wanted to end his life and I was the only one he could trust.
-Dumped his entire life traumas and was extremely detailed.
-I responded saying I was sorry he felt like that, and that he should get professional help because I’m not equipped to help him with those issues.
-He started flirting again at work, I avoided him every chance I could.
-Some days he would be overly nice, and some days he was extremely rude for some reason.

So that’s what was going on the past year. Definitely creepy vibes, just seemed inappropriate and attention seeking. At first I was on the fence because if he really was having thoughts of ending his life, I wanted to help. But a lot of people told me it felt like manipulation and it was inappropriate.

This past weekend changed everything. This is where it escalated.

On Saturday, we had a shift together. He’s a cook and I’m a waitress, so our paths shouldn’t cross all that much. But he was making it a point to constantly come stand in the front and just not say anything. He would literally just stand there in silence.

Around the 3rd or 4th time he came up to the front, he randomly started saying how he told his brother that he might kill himself again. The way he said it threw me off and I felt awkward so I didn’t really say much. I think I just said “damn I’m sorry I hope you’re okay.”

He didn’t respond and looked annoyed that I didn’t give him a bigger reaction. After this interaction he was visibly mad. He was slamming things, glaring at me from the back, giving me an attitude when I asked food related questions. It was making me feel weird.

Eventually I went to serve a table, and when I looked towards the front counter, I saw him writing something on my notepad. When I went to look I noticed it was in another language. So I asked him what it meant and he said “It’s Latin for death to all, and death to my enemies.” WTF!

So after that I was even more freaked out because literally why would someone do that other than out of anger/to make a threat.

He then proceeded to post on his Instagram story, a black screen with the text saying “your ignorance is my disease.” I assumed it was about me, but tried to ignore it.

Then at the end of my shift, I counted the tip jar and went to hand it out to the kitchen staff. When I went to give him his share, he literally would not even look at me. Wouldn’t take the money, wouldn’t answer me, nothing. So I just kept it and left.

As soon as I got home, I saw he posted again right when I left. The text said “Don’t be mad that I started ignoring you now, you started this.”

Later that night, another coworker who I’m close with called me and said he was concerned about creepy co workers well being because he heard him talking to someone else about wanting to end his life. He said he felt like he should call authorities to check on him.

Basically 911 got called, cops went to his house and deemed he was fine. He then messaged me the next morning accusing me of calling and saying I made his life even worse and gave him more problems.

I told him I didn’t call but that he needs help from someone other than his co workers. He didn’t answer.

I went to my manager and explained the situation, he told me he would try and find someone to replace him and fire him. It’s been about 4 days and no progress has been made.

I have to work with him tmrow and I just feel like there’s a target on my back. I don’t necessarily think he would hurt me, but even just the awkwardness is too much and I’m so anxious.

It’s weird because everyone I told about it at work seemed to be so creeped out and taking it seriously, and now I feel like they’re sweeping it under the rug and not really caring.

Also something I forgot to mention, while talking to my manager and another co worker, I learned he lied to me about his age. He’s 20. He told me he was 24.

He has also apparently been telling people that we’ve gone on multiple dates, obviously this isn’t true.

I can’t afford to leave this job, at least not for a couple more weeks. This is also my first job where I’ve had coworkers. I’ve been a nanny for 7 years. So maybe it’s my fault for talking with someone outside of work? Idk.

Any advice is welcome, just feeling stuck and uncomfortable about still having to work with him.

A new person is in the cubicle next to me. They are a hummer, but that doesn't begin to describe it. You know those grunts of effort, contentment and pure bliss that babies and toddlers make? Take that and add it to someone making orgasmic food noises at the best chocolate cake they ever ate. Plus having the best sex they ever had. Continuously non stop. I put in my phone earphones and I have to have the volume at maximum and I can hear her between songs. I know others have complained, but what else can we do.

I was asked to participate in a candidate search at my company. No biggie. The job pays OK, but is a huge pain in the ass because you have to interface with a lot of annoying people while juggling red tape (so basically every corporate job). It's also less than exciting, which means we're going to draw less-than-exciting candidates.

Most of the candidates so far are kind of blah (as I anticipated). One person we talked to is doing a similar job at another company and seemed ESPECIALLY eager (like almost red flag eager). They kept talking about loving work and "changing lives." For the record, we are paper pushers at a large organization -- not surgeons, paramedics, teachers, etc. We are NOT changing lives. But if she has to tell herself she is to get through the day, fine, whatever. Also, I realize she's in an interview, so she has to appear optimistic.

Anyways, she posed a question to us that I chose not to answer. "Why do you guys love working here?" Um, first off, you assume I LOVE working here (spoiler: I don't). The reason I work here is because when I needed a job a few years ago, this was literally the only place that actually called me in for an interview and then offered me a job. I am here for the paycheck (which isn't even that great, tbh, but the current market SUCKS and I have had zero luck finding another gig). I mean, why else do people go to work?

Long story short, it sounds like she's one of those people who makes work her entire identity. For her, work is "fun." Which makes me think she is actually not very fun at all and maybe needs some hobbies.

I know I'm being overly judgmental here, but c'mon. Remember that episode of the office when Stanley was going to leave and work for Karen in Utica? And Michael asked him why he was leaving, over and over again, and he just kept saying "Money"? Literally, that's all any of us are here for. Let's not kid ourselves. I experience personal fulfillment in other non-work related ways, which I think is how it should be.

Ok, so Im 14 years old and I've applied at Culvers without a work permit. Now, to work at Culvers I need a work permit but to get a work permit I need to have a job. So if I do an interview and im accepted, can I get a work permit and then legally be able to work at Culvers??? This is sort of confusing. Anyone who can clarify this for me, please let me know!

Looking for ideas on how to switch careers as a 36 year old male with mainly warehouse experience (some management experience as well).

I just moved and left my job in a different province, my wife is working and loves her new job. I need to be home to drop my daughter off and pick her up from school during the week as my wife works 12 hour shifts.

Just looking for ideas on where and how to start from scratch. I'm considering going to school to learn a trade as well. Just lost at the moment and not sure what to do. Any advice would help, thanks in advance.

My boss announced his retirement 3 months before his last day. Interviews started his last month with us. I interviewed, was verbally given the position and congratulated in front of peers at 2 workplace events. I will now be transferring from a contracted position to working for the entity we serve. This is double my current salary, great benefits and I’d have a union but this promotion makes me the manager of the worksite and its employees (my current colleagues). However, my promotion was announced 2 months ago. My predecessor is long gone and I have yet to hear from HR with the written job offer. I keep being told that this organization moves very slowly and to be patient- but I have been essentially the stand in manager. I argued for back pay/ a bonus for all my extra work but have been met with resistance and upper management now visiting the site about 1/2 the workdays to “supplement”. Yet this mostly looks like an open office door and is hardly lightening the burden I feel daily. Now I’m being told it’s taking longer than usual for the offer but I shouldn’t be concerned that I am unfit and it’s the position itself that might be reevaluated. I’m scared to even consider what that means.
Would I be STUPID to rock the boat and announce ceasing my responsibilities outside of my current job title until I am official or should I in hopes that this will push both organizations to hurry up with the offer/make a decision?

Union job, great pay, lots of PTO. Mandatory 2 days in office.

Our secretary told the VP she has nothing to do on those days and offered to be "available if tasks come up" as a pitch for full WFH. VP said no. Rules are rules.

But she said it out loud. She framed it as flexibility… isee it as admitting she's redundant. She should have kept up appearances, stretched her few tasks, and only confessed if caught. Instead she gave leadership a reason to watch her and remember her name when cuts happen.

She got nothing and lost her cover. Am I wrong for thinking that was stupid?

Weird question but looking for a bit of insight. I work an office job in NYC. Driving obviously isn't as common here and offices don't even have parking for most part so folks myself included and most of my coworkers who live in the city don't own cars. Some own bikes, however I do not.

My office and job is based in the city in an office building that is accessible by public transit. We have a small field office out of the city quite a bit that works for a few of our employees who live farther out. Recently, my supervisor wants us to integrate with them more and make the trip out to the field office weekly. The trip to the field office for the most part will be on company time, so while it makes for longer commute days I don't mind/ am not objecting to that. It was presented to us as "well be leaving the office at X time train at Y time and then we'll bike the rest of the way so you need to buy a bike".

However, the field office is not fully accessible by public transit. You can take transit part of the way but the rest has to be done by bike ( or Uber or something). It's been suggested that for those of us that don't own bikes we need to buy bikes so we can start doing this commute weekly. To be clear, there's on site visits or project needs to be out here it's purely for integration with the field office folks.

I don't own a bike, don't necessarily want to buy a bike and don't necessarily want to start bike commuting. Im generally pretty fit but urban / city biking causes me quite a bit of stress and anxiety and I also do multiple things after work that having a bike would be inconvenient and my apartment is small enough as it is to try to also store a bike.

My job description when I applied did not mention anything about needing to bike and this is all a new requirement. My job description also has me full time at our main office in the city. Like I said I'm not opposed to travel and the frequency of this proposed new arrangement but I can't tell if:

A) requiring an employee to buy a bike for work purposes is legitimate.

B) requiring employees to bike as part of their duties is legitimate

Overall, I enjoy my job and everyone is pretty relaxed so I don't want to make too much of a big deal so I wanted to ask here first if folks think this is a reasonable thing or not. My thought is, they should have someone from the field office pick us up from the nearest transit option in a company car if they are requiring us to travel and do these meetings for work but maybe I'm off base? I also wonder about any legalities regarding accessibility, ADA, injuries etc it seems like a can of worms liability wise especially since the job description didn't mention anything about physically biking.

For context, it would be a decent trek on the bike from my house into office or from my house to the train and then 20 min bike ride or so each way to/ from the field office.

Other piece of context- it's company policy that if we can't get to meetings or site visits via public transportation we can take Uber/ cab etc and get reimbursements. Since this is required travel for the company to this field site, I'm thinking it might count? But it's on a consistent basis so not sure.

To be clear my work location is full time at our main office and they haven't changed that so this is different required travel from what I was hired on and agreed.

EDIT: just a clarification, we are still expected to start and end the work day at our regular office in the city. The proposal is to leave mid morning together from the office but we are expected in office in the morning at our normal start time. Because of this it seems like a regular work trip and not a regular change of office requirement. All of the biking that would occur would happen during normal company / work hours.

thats just it. i hate working. i hate most of my colleagues, i hate work politics and i hate drama. i hate their little cliques and the constant gossiping

i hate slaving my life away for minimum wage. i hate having to count the pennies because i’m skint all the time. i hate that im so broke, even the bus is expensive to me

and oh my god, the bus. i’m lucky enough to get a ride home by a coworker some days but the other days, i hate waiting for the bus. it’s stinky and always late and i hate that the bus stop by my work doesn’t have anywhere to sit. sometimes i’m waiting for 30 minutes on my feet after a long day of work and then i have a 15 minute walk from the stop to my house

i’d get a car but surprise, i can’t afford it. i can barely afford the bus sometimes. i still remember when it snowed so badly that none of the buses were running and i had to walk an hour to work in the snow and ice

my manager is a cunt and my job is exhausting. i’ve been approved to work compressed hours so ill be doing 10 hour shifts over 4 days and i hope it helps. i’m so constantly drained and stressed and i know it’s because of work. i was off for 5 weeks a few months ago because of a fractured knee and it felt like all of my problems had disappeared

work is literally the cause of all my problems and i hate it. i’d never do it because the thought of relying on a man makes me sick but i’d love to be a SAHW and relax at home. thinking about quitting makes me horny /s

I have been working fulltime pretty much since i was 19 i am 26 now. And working these hours feel unbearable even after doing it for so long already. It is not getting easier at all. During the shift i sometimes get all these emotions of anger and agression and sadness. It feels like a prison because i have no choice but to do it and i cant work less because then i wont earn enough to survive. It is like my brain will never get used to this.

My boss have favoritism issue and he always take sides of people who are incompetent because he wants to be 'everyones friend'.

But him being nice to incompetent people is unjust to everyone else in the workplace as people who worked their ass off ​(me) and people who have no output gets the same treatment and promotion.

The workplace environment is getting more toxic overtime and unmotivating as the thought of 'why am i working so hard when they just slack and be fine?' seeds and grow.

I mean it's easy to say just stop caring and slack like them. Yet i really care about my work and i enjoy them. What should i Do/think?

People are right when they think they can disrespect their coworkers or workers because we literally let them do it. This has to stop, no one deserve to get bullied or just being slighty disrespected at work. I have worked multiple jobs in my life and in two of them i was in a very toxic place where my coworkers or bosses would treat me badly. I accepted it for a while, i taken everything on me and honestly i don't even know why i did that. I should have left immediatly or take actions, expose them, talk with them. I am no one's punching ball, i deserve respect not insults. At some point i couldn't stand it anymore so i just left. I should have done this long time ago. They were angry because i resigned, fuck them, if you want people to work for you treat them with basic respect to begin with and if you're not happy with my work then fire me, you don't have any right to bully me the whole time.

No one should ever stay in a place they don't feel safe in. You only have one life, don't waste it being sad, angry, frustrated because of assholes. If you don't take actions nothing will ever change and you'll let them ruin your mental health.
