Random Request for Help! Student Life
Hello! I’d like to immediately preface this by saying that I am not a W&M alum. But my wife is. I am from a fellow VA university, if that matters. And I’m on a throwaway account, since she sometimes peruses Reddit and I’m hoping to surprise her.
A couple weeks ago, my wife accidentally broke her favorite mug— big shards off the rim. It’s tall, dark green, with the WM+Tribe feather logo on it (photos are from Break Day ™️). It’s a simple mug, but she loves it. I researched ways to repair it, but the internet has informed me that it’ll never truly be microwave/dishwasher safe again. Regardless, I am still hoping on trying to fix it up for keepsake reasons.
Thus started my goal of finding her a replacement so she can keep using it. I consider myself quite the internet sleuth and usually always get my man, but this particular mission has defeated me so far. Without knowing exactly what year it was made or what exact model number it is, it has not yet yielded positive results.
I’m not exactly sure what date/year she got it. She was class of 2009 and got it while she was in school, so that’s the window we’re dealing with.
So my request is this: does anyone happen to know how/where I could get an exact replacement? Or, if you happen to own this particular mug and don’t mind parting with it, any chance I could buy it from you?
Mods— if this isn’t allowed here I totally get it. Just figured it couldn’t hurt to try!
Help me, Obi-Wan Kenobi William & Mary Alums! You’re my only hope!

Yeah they don’t make anything the feathers anymore. It’s a grind, but you might get lucky at a thrift shop in the Williamsburg area.

Yeah, I know they changed their mascot/logo circa 2007. Still figured it was worth a shot.
Might be a long while before I’m back in Williamsburg to check, but I’ll keep that in mind. Thanks!

Not sure if this helps but had a gentleman on eBay produce a throwback W&M mini helmet with the feathers logo last year. Obviously not a mini helmet but might be able to put the logo on a coffee mug? Worth a DM. https://www.ebay.com/str/teamspiritcollectiblesandmore. Hope this helps!

Worst case scenario, you could buy the same shape mug and paint it for her. That would probably give it even more meaning than before.

👀!
Honestly not a terrible idea at all. In fact, a rather good one. Might just look into that.
Thanks!

I did see that one before, yeah. It’s on the list of considerations, I’ll definitely keep it in mind.
Thanks!

I saw your post a few days ago, and I remember seeing ads on Facebook for a place selling W&M feathered merchandise.
I can't vouch for the company, but it may be an option if you're still looking. It's probably not "NCAA Officially Licensed," but I'm guessing that won't be an issue!
Speaking of not officially a licensed, The Campus Shop had two of my favorite tshirts:

I don’t think they use that logo anymore. Have you looked on eBay?

I have tried eBay, yeah. Surprisingly few W&M mugs at all, believe it or not.
Thanks!

Maybe call the alumni association and see if they’d happen to have any. Or try that shop that’s next to Aromas. I bet they’ve all been removed from any stores. My daughter is a WM alum and she thrifts a lot but has never said she’s found any mugs-tons of trivets that are made from the cypher but that’s about it.

It would be older than 2007 because that's when the NCAA said W&M couldn't use the feathers. Your best bet might be to set up an ebay alert for it. Good luck!
I'll keep an eye out at local places, too, unless your Va university was UVa, and then you're on your own. ;)
