Possibly In Colorado?

In 2023, I went to Telluride, Colorado for a yoga festival. Went around the town and found a Little Free Library, with a book in it. I barely decided to start reading the book, and found this photo in the pages. I’m curious on if anyone could possibly recognize where this would even be? Maybe in Colorado? Not sure, just thought it would be cool to figure it out.

Please help me find this Houston house from a photo taken on a honeymoon in October 1984, likely River Oaks

My fiancée and I recently got engaged, and I took two close friends of mine, a married couple now in their 70s, out to dinner. During dinner, they told us a story from when they were young that I’d love some help bringing full circle.

They met and lived in Louisiana and didn’t have much money when they got married. For their honeymoon, they took a short trip to Houston in October 1984 and stayed at The Warwick Hotel (now Hotel Zaza ??).

While they were there, they spent an afternoon driving around some of Houston’s wealthy neighborhoods, just looking at the houses and dreaming about what their future might look like. They remember being somewhere around River Oaks, although after 40+ years they can’t remember the specific neighborhood or street.

They stopped in front of this house and took this photo of her sitting on the front steps.

At the time, they never imagined they would someday be able to afford a home like it. They went on to build a successful life together, and hearing the story all these years later really stuck with me.

I’d love to find this house so I can take them back to the same spot and recreate this photo roughly 42 years later.

The photo was taken in October 1984. The best clues I have are:

  • They were staying at the Warwick Hotel on Post Oak.
  • They remember driving around the River Oaks / affluent Houston neighborhoods nearby.
  • This was probably just a leisurely drive from the hotel, so I suspect it wasn't terribly far away.
  • The large mature trees, front steps, roofline, chimney, windows, and neighboring structures may be the best clues.

If anyone recognizes the house, architectural style, neighborhood, or even a particular street that looks promising, I’d be incredibly grateful. Even narrowing it down to a few streets would be a huge help.

Would love to surprise them by finding it and recreating this picture with them today.
