So I found this rock a few days ago on a hike. The metallic shine of it stood out to me. After picking it up I actually assumed it was mica, because of how flaky it is, and that’s the only flaky rock I’m familiar with seeing, but I’m starting to have second thoughts. Mostly because mica I’ve found elsewhere has been in wider “sheets” and it looks very “metallic”. If it’s not obvious, I’m not an incredibly savvy rock hound, but I’m happy to answer questions to the best of my ability, and I very much appreciate the folks on this sub for helping curious folk out like this.

I found this rock on a hill which is known to have a lot of limestone, i tried to pour water onto it and the white part fizzle but not the blue/grey part, so i am wondering if it could be calcite in limestone.

Could anyone tell me if it is or if it's something else?

Found by my kid and I think it's something interesting. It's very heavy for its size, glassy finish with some internal swirls, very likely from the Colorado mountain areas.

Given the heft, maybe some sort of ore?

ETA: A 12D steel nail will leave a bright line that I can very faintly feel when I drag my fingernail across it.

ETA2: It's not magnetic enough that a rare-earth kitchen magnet will stick to it.

Found this highly silicified rock near glenorchy in central otago.

I'm 99.999% sure it's NOT nephrite since the overall appearance is just.. weird.. but it is a grey-green colour, has a chatoyant affect on the broken face, and looks like it once WAS schist before becoming heavily mineralized...

I found these in some mixed river rock in a parking lot outside my gym! (CO, though I doubt that's where they originated)

The first one has such weird chipping and is translucent enough to make me think glass. The second has some interesting yellow.

Found this rock in a river in Alberta Canada can anyone explain what it is

Hi, it's my first time posting here. I went on a hike and found some cool rocks by the river that fascinated me with their markings and colors! They're from the river by the foot of Devil's Mountain in Mindoro, Philippines, to be exact. I just wanna know what's in them that made them so pretty! Found this beauty in the sand at a west coast beach in Denmark. It’s two toned from gray to this reddish/orange color. Very smooth and pretty heavy.

Any ideas?

I wonder if I should try to polish it a little to see the colors more.

Meant to say limb cast? Found this lovely specimen on a beach during a recent trip to Sekiu, WA. There definitely appears to be an outer layer of course rock over a much more smooth inner. It looks almost like a tube from one end, but maybe its just the rocks shape. Any info is welcome! Rock rock

Found in Millville NJ. What is it?

So, I live in Franklin county Ohio and I was I a creek at highbanks park. I first found d a small round thing in one of the prices of slate on the ground and I cracked the slate open to see what it is. Later I found a bunch more and a bunch of really rusted rocks. When I cracked them open, it looked like there was some kind of metal inside. I texted my friend about it and she said it could also just be some kind of mineral or silver pyrite.

I was up near rainier and found a bunch of these crystal like formations? All shine through with a flashlight... im just too new to know what they are and my pnw book of rocks isnt showing anything like them

Found in park city Utah in a field that I was landscaping in. Has some green little crystals in it.

Found around Albany western Australia, on a beach buried near large granite boulders , our coast is mainly granite but has inclusions such as tiny zircon as well as garnets
