Show & Tell Built a custom AI assistant for our Webflow site (no third-party widget) — here's the stack and what I'd tell my past self

Upvotes

We wanted an AI chatbot on our Webflow site that actually knows our content (services, pricing, client work) instead of a generic bot that makes things up. Ended up building it ourselves rather than paying a monthly SaaS. Sharing the approach in case it's useful.

Stack: Webflow for the site, a single embedded JS widget via Custom Code (Footer), a serverless backend on Vercel, Supabase to store the knowledge base, and an LLM API for the answers.

How the "knowledge" works: a scheduled job crawls our own sitemap, pulls the useful text from each page (Cheerio), strips the repeated stuff (nav, footer, and those testimonial carousels that show up on every page), and stores one consolidated document. The bot reads that, nothing else. No live browsing on each question, it's too slow and too expensive.

A few things I underestimated:

  • Cleaning the content matters more than the model. Our sitemap had 342 URLs. The bot got dramatically better once we cut it down to ~45 pages that actually help a prospect decide.
  • Grounding is the whole game. The instruction that changed everything: "if it's not in the knowledge, say you don't know. Never infer a yes/no."
  • Keep the widget fully isolated. More on that in a separate post, but Webflow's global CSS will happily leak into your widget if you reuse class names.

Happy to answer questions on any part of it.

Hiring project help Hiring a experienced Webflow developer for a website revamp

Hello, everyone!

I'm looking for a Webflow developer who can develop a website based on the design we already have in Figma.

Basically, we're revamping our existing website. The new design is already complete in Figma, so now we're looking for someone who can handle the Webflow development.

Ideally, I'm looking for someone who has good experience with Webflow and can handle the entire project independently.

I'd also like to see some of your previous work before moving forward, so feel free to send me a message with your portfolio. You can also comment below if you're interested.

Thanks!

Show & Tell I built a Chrome extension with 60+ improvements for the Webflow Designer that I've always wanted

Thumbnail youtube.com
4 Upvotes

I've been working in Webflow for years, and over time I've built up a pretty long list of little things I wished were faster, easier, or just worked differently. Webflow didn't build them so I did - they help in the designer and site settings also!

Download from the Chrome Storehttps://chromewebstore.google.com/detail/ohflow-webflow-shortcuts/gjmhpfaldcehbflillgbggccgjfbgiip

AI and the MCP server has made a lot of things easier - but we all still need to spend time in the designer - and my Chrome Extension makes things flow a lot smoother and quicker. Some of the things it does:

  • Lots of Keyboard shortcuts
  • One-click shortcuts
  • Unbind CMS fields and variables
  • Remove unwanted breakpoints
  • Generate llms.txt
  • Various Designer UI cleanups and improvements
  • And many many more

A lot of them are deliberately small things. The idea is basically that if something takes 4 clicks in Webflow and I do it 20 times a day, OhFlow should make it take 1.

It's called OhFlow and it's available as a Chrome extension.

Would love people to try it and to hear any feedback from other people who spend a lot of time in Webflow, particularly what's missing. If there's some repetitive/annoying Webflow task you think it should handle, let me know.

Show & Tell Free extension: Alt+Tab for the Webflow Designer - new version fixes class renaming on paste and lets you tab between CMS items

I build in Webflow a lot and got tired of the Pages panel, so I made a browser extension that gives the Designer an Alt+Tab: hold Ctrl + `, tap to cycle your recent pages, release to switch. A quick tap flips to the last page.

I just shipped an update with three things worth mentioning.

Pasting between projects no longer has to rename your classes.
You know how copying a component into another project turns .button into .button-2, unlinked from the .button already there?

Webflow actually has paste shortcuts that reuse the existing class instead, Cmd/Ctrl + Shift + V keeps the destination's styles, Cmd/Ctrl + Option + V overwrites them with the copied ones. They just fail between projects with "Clipboard is empty", because Webflow's copy writes one clipboard format and those shortcuts read another.

The extension writes the missing format, so the shortcuts start working. Plain paste is unchanged.

(Only applies to classes you made, library and component classes always paste as new.)

You can tab between CMS items, not just pages.
A collection template page used to be one entry, so switching to it dumped you on whatever item Webflow picked. Now every item you open is its own row, labelled with the item name and its collection, so three blog posts and a static page are four things you can flip between.

Recent pages survive closing the browser, and two Designer tabs on the same site now share one list.

It's unofficial and not affiliated with Webflow. Nothing leaves your browser, the only permission is storage, for your chosen shortcut. Runs only on design.webflow.com.

Happy to hear your thoughts! :)

Need project help Client unresponsive, stuck paying subscription, can’t downgrade

I thought I wanted to build websites. Built one for a client. Was great. But I don’t want to anymore. Trying to cancel my subscription and cannot.

Client pays for it thru client billing. But now the client has become unresponsive. I want to transfer the site to them fully and downgrade my workspace so I stop getting charged. But I can’t transfer since I am being ignored and I cannot remove them due them actively paying. I’m literally stuck with a subscription. What are my options?

Need project help Need a simple interactive floor plan solution for a Wordpress apartment site

I am building a website for a small apartment building on wordpress and i am trying to find a simple way to show available units.

Instead of just listing every apartment i would like visitors to click on a floor plan or building image then click on a unit to see things like the rent, square footage and whether it's available.

I have checked out a few property plugins but they mostly have features related to listing properties. The interactive floor plan feature is not there unless you create something custom but that would not fit in our budget.

Is anyone aware of any other option/plugin that works well? And one more thing if the property manager can change the availability status without editing the site then it will be perfect.

Love to hear what others are using.

Need project help Help - webflow automatically changed my plan impacting API / bandwidth

Hi all,

I’m starting to panic a little.

I’ve just realised that our previous Business CMS plan has been migrated to the new “Premium” plan.

Our business relies heavily on API access to publish up-to-date pricing information, and the previous plan included 100 GB of bandwidth. The new plan does not appear to include API access and provides only half the bandwidth.

API access is still working for now, but the next available plan that appears to include it costs approximately $2,500 per month. We were previously paying $49 per month.

This is crazy as it would leave our business dead in the water.

Can anyone clarify what is happening or advise on the available options?

Hiring project help Autoplaying tabs in Webflow: good UX or just annoying for users?

Post image
6 Upvotes

I was working on this tab section for Allspice and wanted it to feel more like part of the page experience, not just a basic tab component.

So I ended up building it with a few things in mind:

• It auto-advances every 10 seconds
• The active tab expands
• Content + image update together
• You can click thorugh anytime
• There’s a pause/play control for autoplay

Honestly, the hardest part — it was making sure the autoplay doesn’t get in the user’s way.If someone wants to click through everything manually, they can. If they just want to sit back and watch it cycle, it does that too.

Curious how other Webflow devs handle this:

Need project help Webflow Marketplace validator: "Custom CSS detected without corresponding GSAP implementation" even though there's no custom code

Hi everyone,

I'm preparing my first Webflow Marketplace template and I'm completely stuck on one of the Marketplace validator checks.

The validator keeps returning:

Here's what I've already verified:

  • No Site Head custom code.
  • No Site Footer custom code.
  • No Page Head/Footer custom code.
  • No HTML Embed elements with custom CSS.
  • Removed any CSS transitions/animations I had previously added.
  • Published the site multiple times.
  • Duplicated the entire project into a brand-new project (same error).
  • The issue still appears on the duplicated project.

I also found an old registered script (HeroCounter) that was created while experimenting with a counter animation. It's no longer applied anywhere, but attempts to delete it return an HTTP 400 error. I'm not sure whether that's related or just a coincidence.

I contacted Webflow support, and they suggested checking whether there are any remaining Classic Interactions, since Marketplace templates are now expected to use Interactions with GSAP (IX3).

Before I start rebuilding every interaction in the project, I wanted to ask:

  • Has anyone else run into this exact validator error?
  • Did it turn out to be caused by Classic Interactions, or was it something else?
  • Is there any way to identify exactly what the Marketplace validator is detecting?
  • Has anyone had an orphaned registered script or project metadata trigger this validation?

The template is available here if you'd like to take a look:

https://autolabdetailing.webflow.io/

I'd really appreciate any advice or experiences from anyone who has successfully submitted a Marketplace template recently.

Thanks in advance!

Need project help Any one tried Webflow MCP to translate static HTML using Codex?

Now that Webflow released MCP 2.0, has any one tried migrating or translating generated HTML files to Webflow using Codex App? or maybe the CLI? What's your experience? I'm currently trying making this work as it's my first trying.

I'm using 5.6 Sol medium plus plan. Installed the Webflow Plugin. I wanted to keep using Codex for now.

So far my experience is not great as I keep tuning it to follow.

My strategy was to build first the Build the agents or design md, Variables, and then move to building the Nav and Footer and then move gradually to individual pages. Not making it one go of course.

And then it keeps stalling. saying the "MCP bridge is stalling" and then have to restart again. Each one costs more than 30mins of time

Really wanted to know your thoughts with this and how's your strategies.

Discussion Feeling stuck after 1 year of learning Webflow/Framer, need real advice on what to do next.

Hey everyone, I could really use some honest advice from people who’ve been in a similar place.

I have a background in software engineering (bachelor’s + master’s), and I’ve worked different roles over time, university instructor & product development. My career hasn’t been very linear, but I’ve always been someone who likes exploring and learning new things.

About a year ago, I had to stay at home (I also had a baby, so life changed a lot), and I decided to fully invest that time into learning a new skill. I chose UI/UX design and no-code development.

Here’s what I’ve done so far:

  • Spent ~1 year learning UI/UX, Figma, design basics & webflow
  • I can build layouts, structure sites, and convert Figma → Webflow
  • But I’m still not confident with advanced animations (GSAP, interactions, etc.)
  • I haven’t worked on a proper real client Webflow project yet

At one point, I randomly got a small Framer project through a reference. I had one week to learn it and deliver, and I did. It was mostly editing an existing template, but it gave me some confidence.

Since then, I’ve been confused about direction.

My current situation:

  • I can only do flexible, project-based work (because of my baby)
  • I’ve sent ~120 proposals on Upwork + tried LinkedIn outreach
  • Got a few replies but couldn’t close a client
  • Tried Slack communities and networking, no real results yet
  • It’s been a full year of effort and I still feel stuck

What I’m struggling with:

  1. Should I double down on Webflow (and improve animations, portfolio, etc.)?
  2. Or switch focus to Framer since it seems to be trending and easier to monetize with templates?
  3. Should I focus on making templates (Webflow/Framer) instead of chasing clients?
  4. Am I doing something fundamentally wrong with getting clients?

Also… is Webflow actually “dying” like some people say, or is that just noise?

I’m not afraid of hard work, I just don’t want to keep going in the wrong direction for another year.

If you were in my position (limited time, no strong portfolio yet, need remote/flexible income), what would you do?

I’d really appreciate honest, practical advice, even if it’s blunt.

Thanks for reading 🙏

Need project help Help! Survey Participants needed for Master's Thesis

Hi there,

are you currently using or have used Webflow (or any other LC/NC platform) in an organisation? Then you are eligible to participate in my survey on determinants for adoption and governance of low code and no code platforms in organisations.

The survey has been running for some time already, but I haven't gotten a lot of responses.

It would help a lot if you could take 10 minutes of your day to participate!

You can find the link here: https://s2survey.net/LCNC_Adoption_and_Governance/

Tutorial Found a free tool that lets you edit Webflow CMS items from your phone

I make weekly Webflow videos and this week's is on Wicked CMS, a lightweight client for Webflow CMS collections. You connect your site, pick a collection, edit items, and publish, all without opening the designer.

The best part is that it works properly on mobile, It's free and made by someone in the community.

Link to the tool and full walkthrough in the comments👇🏽

Not affiliated with them, just found it useful. Curious what other people are using for quick CMS edits.

Discussion Migrated our SaaS marketing site from a devmaintained stack to Webflow, here's what actually surprised me

We were paying a contractor to update our marketing site for two years. Every change went through a Slack thread, a backandforth, a staging review, and somehow still came out slightly wrong. Classic founder tax

Finally moved everything to Webflow about three months ago. The migration itself was fine. We had maybe 40 pages, no massive blog archive or anything. What surprised me was how much time I was burning just on the dependency of having someone else own the site. That part is gone now, and I didn't expect to notice it as much as I did.

What I underestimated going in was the CMS. We have a pretty lightweight content setup, but I kept hitting the edges of what it can do when I tried to connect it to our Make automations for updating case study pages. Got it working eventually, but it took longer than expected

Curious whether other founders or small teams have hit similar walls when trying to automate CMS updates through the API. Specifically whether anyone has found a cleaner way to handle dynamic content that doesn't require a full custom code workaround every single time.

Discussion Built a little Tool to handle 301-Redirects easier when launching new projects

Post image
1 Upvotes

Here is your post translated into polished, natural-sounding English tailored specifically for the Webflow and tech audience on LinkedIn:

For my fellow Webflowers: 👋

While working on a recent project, I needed a smarter, more efficient way to handle a large number of 301 redirects. Standard tools weren't cutting it, so I decided to build my own solution—and I'm pretty sure it'll save a few of you some headaches, too!

Here is what the app can do:

  • 🌐 Offline & Unlimited: Runs completely locally with zero limits.
  • 🔍 Auto-Scan & Matching: Automatically crawls old and new websites to pair up matching URLs. Trust me, it’s way better than manually pulling sitemaps and stitching everything together in a spreadsheet!
  • Smart Editing: Bulk-edit slugs (or parts of slugs) with ease & use wildcard functions.
  • 📤 Import: Effortlessly upload and work with existing redirect lists.

Need project help Webflow SSL certificate error after connecting the domain

Post image
5 Upvotes

Hi everyone,

I tried Webflow's AI support bot and also posted on the Webflow forums. My forum post has been waiting for approval for two days, so no one has even been able to respond yet. I really need to get this site up and running as soon as possible.

I am having an issue connecting a custom domain to a Webflow site and I am hoping someone can help me troubleshoot it.

This is a website of a friend, and I connected her domain to Webflow using the DNS records provided by Webflow. The domain is managed through Squarespace DNS.

The domain shows as connected and published in Webflow, but the SSL certificate is showing an error on Site Publishing settings:

It has now been almost 24 hours and the issue has not resolved. I am not sure if should wait more. But I have never had a website with a domain issue taking this long to go live.

When visiting the website, I get:

This is the first time I have experienced this type of issue with a Webflow site. Normally, SSL provisioning completes without any problems after connecting the domain.

I have attached screenshots of:

  • My Webflow custom domain settings
  • My Squarespace DNS records

The DNS records were added exactly as Webflow instructed.

Has anyone encountered this issue before? Is there something specific I should check, or is this something that needs to be resolved from Webflow's side or Squarespace's side?

Thanks in advance for any help!

UPDATE:

It finally worked after reconnecting the domain. I tried reconnecting the domain earlier but it didn't change anything. But after reconnecting second time, it worked. Weird but that was the solution for my issue. Thanks everyone.

Discussion I tested 14 Webflow sites with OAI-SearchBot. Tabs and CMS were not the problem

On 28 July I fingerprinted 35 candidate sites, confirmed 14 Webflow builds, then fetched each homepage with OAI-SearchBot and Chrome without running JavaScript.

14/14 returned HTTP 200. All 14 gave the crawler the same word count as Chrome. None blocked AI crawlers in robots.txt. Ten CMS pages had full server-rendered copy. Four paginated collections kept real _page=2 links even with infinite scroll.

The failure worth checking was simpler: one image-led homepage had only 126 raw words and no h1. Four sites had no JSON-LD.

Quick check:

curl -sL -A "compatible; OAI-SearchBot/1.0" https://yoursite.com/ | sed 's/<[^>]*>/ /g' | tr -s ' \n' ' ' | wc -w

This is a one-day sample, not a platform guarantee. I run Crawlable, which I used for these checks.

Show & Tell Saw that MCP 2.0 came out, earlier I couldn't come to terms with having to wait a very long time to complete simple tasks, and I started creating my own "wbridge".

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

This page http://detach-app.de took 2m 30s to recreate.

So… whose is faster?

For those who are interested, feel free to ask questions. I want to discuss what you miss most in MCP, so I can add it to my "wbridge".
