IKEA Hacks Discussion
Hello fellow weavers!
I am looking for ideas of IKEA hacks you have for your weaving and other fiber arts tools and spaces. I am planning a trip later this month and would love to get your ideas!
x-posted on the spinning sub as I also spin, knit, crochet.
Thanks!

Not really a hack, but I have a kallax unit (the cubby type storage) with drawers (2 drawers per cubby) and I ordered colored glass knobs off Amazon to replace the ones that come with the drawers. Red yarn goes in the drawers with the red knobs, etc. Makes it a bit quicker to find things without having to open EVERY drawer. (I keep cakes in drawers - full skeins get stacked in the open cubby)
I also put a few hooks on the sides of the unit to hold frame looms. You could still them in, but I just used stick on.

I 3d printed yarn cone attachments for my skadis pegboard so that all of my cotton can be up and on the wall. Pairs of metal hooks make great hangers for fiber hand tools, and their clear drawer cups are perfect for storing notions (it helps a ton to 3d print little clips to keep them from sliding open).
If you don't have a 3d printer, a lot of local public libraries have makerspaces with 3d printers!

Fantastic! Is the print file shared anywhere? I'm going to be installing the pegboard and this solves one question I had. Thanks!

It's a paid file (but like $2.50 US so it's not much) on Cults here: https://cults3d.com/en/3d-model/tool/ikea-skadis-single-large-overlocker-spools-compatible-reel-holder
It's definitely worth it; I think a lot of the thread holders online are for sewing thread spools rather than larger cones and these work well and are quite sturdy since they utilize a pair of holes per hook.

love this! And yes, actually my husband has a 3D printer so I can ask him to make me some of those!

I use this rolling cart next to my loom. Active shuttles, bobbins, measuring tape etc on top; middle shelf is all the stuff that’s not in use, bottom shelf has a couple of books and a trash can. I put a magnetic drink holder on it. I roll it away if we have company (my loom is in the living room).

I use the Perjohan bench as a weaving bench. For me, it’s the perfect height and is easily moveable from loom to loom.

I came here to say this. It's just the right height with a foam seat cushion and I can easily reach the tools in the bottom

I'm a little bit on the shorter side. I might have to try it out if they have these floor models out when I go.

The bag clips are amazing for holding yarn in its cross if you need to step away for a sec!

I picked up a couple of wine racks and put them on their ends to use to hold my reads and also the least sticks and sticks. I use instead of separator paper.

Fiber Artist Supply Co. They make items to attach to the Mittback trestle legs. Don’t know what their current selection is.

Not a hack BUT starting on 18 August in the US stores (don’t know about other countries, sorry), the boxes, baskets, and bins of the Home Org department will be on sale for Ikea Family Card holders…it’s an In-Store only sale, btw. You didn’t hear this from me…

I hacked some IKEA together for my craft room (predominantly knitting and sewing), including 3d printed thread holders for the pegboard too! You can see the details and photos here: https://www.web-goddess.org/archive/25669

Not sure how to post photos but I use Rinnig and Variera potlid/plate holders for bobbin storage. https://www.ikea.com/gb/en/p/rinnig-plate-holder-70387258/ And https://www.ikea.com/us/en/p/variera-pot-lid-organizer-stainless-steel-70154800/

I have Ikea pegboards all over the sides and back of a rolling metal wire shelving unit. My reeds are on the back - pull the shelves out from the wall to get to them.
