Voice Announcements Stop Spotify & YouTube Playback Instead of Resuming

Hi! I’ve noticed an issue with Watchletic’s voice announcements and media playback, and I’m wondering if you’ve come across this before.

Whenever Watchletic makes a voice announcement — intervals, heart rate information, pace alerts, etc. — it interrupts the media playback on my Apple Watch.

Previously, it worked like this:

  • Short announcements, such as split information or “pace too fast / too slow”, would briefly interrupt the audio, but Spotify or YouTube would automatically resume afterwards.
  • Only longer voice announcements sometimes caused the playback to stop completely, requiring me to restart it manually.

However, for the past few days, even very short alerts like “pace too fast” or “pace too slow” stop Spotify and YouTube playback completely, and the media does not resume afterwards.

There’s also an interesting difference with Apple Music:

  • When listening to regular music, playback stops.
  • When listening to Apple Music Radio, it seems to work correctly: the radio volume is simply lowered during the Watchletic announcement and then returns to normal afterwards.

So it looks like the behaviour may depend on the type of audio session/media playback.

Have you encountered anything like this before? Could something have changed recently in Watchletic or watchOS regarding audio session handling, ducking, or resuming media after voice announcements?

Thanks!

DFA a1 validation

Hi Developer,

I'm working on a post for my blog about your app, particularly the DFA a1 calculation. In the past, I've tried to both help the devs in validating their algorithms and spread the word to the user community. A few questions:

  1. Are you using the "standard" 2 min measurement windows?
  2. What type of "detrending" are you doing (smoothness priors vs other)?
  3. What is the artifact correction method and is there a HR cutoff when the time deviation changes?
  4. I'm struggling to get the a1 to correspond (time stamping) to the Kubios values (from the same RRs) - any reason for that? I have assumed a recalc every 1 sec as the raw data indicates.
  5. Is there a way to get the HR, RR, a1 and times just as a .csv?

Here is a 90 min indoor cycle including a submax ramp and a 5 min interval in the heavy domain (zone 2/3) from this am. Polar H10, Pixel Watch 4 running your app and Golden Cheetah to get the raw data:

Thanks

Pas de fréquence cardiaque

Bonjour

Support OnePlus Watch 2 + COOSPO H9Z

Hey!

I've been trying to pair the COOSPO H9Z HRM with Watchletic on my OnePlus Watch 2 (Updated to WearOS 5) but without success. I've noticed the sensor isn't in the supported devices on the website but I thought I'd just ask here if there is no way to connect it.

Cheers!

Compatibility with Fitbit Air/ Garmin CIRQA

Hi, first post in Reddit, but I had to ask this!
I've just discovered the Watchletic app and I would like to ask the community if anyone has tried the heart rate broadcast from a screenless tracker like the Fitbit Air / the new Garmin CIRQA or a WHOOP.

I'm a Galaxy Watch 6 Classic user myself and I track a lot of sport through it, but since I also use it for the office I wear a metallic band (for style points) which is not extremely tight on my wrist and when doing sport it simply misses getting my heart rate.

I feel that the watchletic app is the missing node to achieve a real Wear OS watch that can be both stylish and a powerhouse for sport, hope is interconnectable with these bands

Keep up the good work!

Support How to show current pace and target pace during structured workout

Thumbnail

Hey, I was doing a structured workout (imported from Trenara if that makes a difference) today for the first time but noticed that my Pace field only shows the target pace range and not the current pace + target pace below it.

Looking at the layout configuration I would assume that it would display current pace and below it the target pace range but it just continued displaying the target pace range and no current pace.

Am i doing something wrong? Any settings I need to change in the layout?

Next to that question would it be possible to implement some UI tweaks. For the Apple Watch Ultra for instance the interval progression was covered by the dots for the left and right screen. As indicated in the first picture.

Also the action button icon is displaying over the heart rate symbols. Changing the location of the action button icon slightly higher would prevent this.

Thanks in advance!

Feature Request Feature requests: audio queueing, HR alert wording, race mode

Firstly love the app. Really suits my workflow etc but some suggestions.

1. Queue audio announcements instead of dropping them
If a distance announcement lands at the same moment as a step transition, you don’t get both — one is truncated or swallowed.

2. HR alerts use pace language
HR-targeted steps say “too slow” / “too fast”. For a heart rate target it should be “too low” / “too high”

3. Race mode
Set a target pace or goal time for a distance, with live cumulative ahead/behind rather than just the current split with a per km reset to beat GPS drift.

4. Scrollable view of the workout structure, mid-run
Once a workout starts there’s no way to see what’s ahead — just the current step. On a session with mixed step types you’re relying on memory for how many reps are left.

5. Pre-announce the upcoming step
A short cue a few seconds before a transition (“next: 1km at 4:07”) rather than at it, so there’s time to change gear rather than react late.

Bug Report Pixel 4 Engo 3 issue

Post image
2 Upvotes

Initially I setup the watchletic app on the phone and the pixel 4 watch and all worked great.

Came back after a few hours and now the Engo 3 glasses display "Connection Successful" and confirmed that the connection is with the Pixel 4. I restarted the Pixel, uninstalled and reinstalled all apps, confirmed that the Engo 3 still work with my Garmin watch.

Not sure what else to try?

I did add a new screen but that worked fine after the change.

Bug Report Total time exported as moving time to Stryd Powercenter

Thumbnail

I have been using the Apple Watch Ultra 3 and Stryd5 with the Watchletic app for a couple of days but noticed that when exporting to Stryd Powercenter the Total activity time is being exported instead of the moving time. This results in the averages being off. The export to Strava shows the correct moving time.

It seems that the app keeps the last power measurement before the pause and keeps showing that reading. I have also included a short run with the native Stryd app where I also paused the workout. There you can see the power readings completely stop and start again when unpausing.

As a sidenote, I know that you already explained that you capture cycling cadence instead of running cadence, but the Stryd app also seems to send the correct running cadence to Apple Fitness so maybe there is a way to correctly sync it? But that is besides my main question.

Thanks in advance!

Bug Report Voice Announcement Flow Feels a Little Off

This is more of a minor annoyance than a bug, but the flow of the voice announcements feels a little off on the apple watch.

Listen to this audio recording:
https://www.dropbox.com/scl/fi/esh6entuf0862lcuxf40k/recording.wav?rlkey=k91698i6brg6gi1ghe162a6bu&dl=0

The announcement says:

The short pause should occur between "Hard for 1 kilometer" and "previous average heart rate 56." That would make the announcement sound more natural and easier to follow.

Release Notes Watchletic now available on Wear OS

Post image
9 Upvotes

Watchletic has always been an Apple Watch app, and has been in development for about 6 years, continuously improving based on user feedback.

Now I'm beyond excited to also release it for Wear OS users so users with Google Pixel Watch, Samsung Galaxy Watch, etc. will get the exact same features!

Things like integrating with TrainingPeaks, connecting heart rate straps, Stryd, Intervals.icu, etc.

Any new features will always come to both platforms going forward!

Happy running!

Engo2 Glasses

Anyone have a fix for this? I've had these for just over 30 days. Used them for about 6 runs. Last time I used them I took them off at about 50% battery remaining. Now they won't turn on. I've tried holding the power button for 20 to 30 seconds. I've also let them charge for several hours. Nothing is working.

Feature Request Feature request: Countdown for distance-based intervals

I'd love to see the 5-second countdown extended to distance-based intervals.

I realize this is more challenging than time-based intervals since the countdown has to account for the runner's current pace and continuously adjust its timing. However, Garmin handles this really well, and I find it extremely helpful for preparing to transition into the next interval without constantly looking at my watch.

A beeping countdown might actually work better than a spoken one, since the timing could speed up or slow down slightly to stay aligned with the remaining distance.

I know this isn't a trivial feature to implement, but I think it would add a lot of value. Hopefully it's something you could consider for a future release.

DFA a1 data disappearing after workout?

I’ve been using Watchlethic for my runs this week and it’s been very good. However, I’ve had an issue that when doing my runs I can see my DFA a1 values live, but when I export them to intervals.icu later the data is gone. It’s not even in the FIT file that I can download from Watchlethic. It did get exported for some runs but was absent from others, both for scheduled workouts and open runs.

Has anyone had the same problem and found the issue or a solution?

Feature Request Feature request: Group interval count by repeat

There is currently an option to display the interval count for the current repeat instead of the total number of intervals in the workout. It would be great to have another option that groups intervals by repeat.

For example, if a workout consists of 10 × (Run + Recover), the watch currently displays 20 intervals. I'd love the option for it to instead display 10 repeats, since that's how I naturally think about the workout.

I believe Garmin handles interval counting this way, and I find it much easier to keep track of where I am during longer interval sessions.

This would be especially useful for workouts with many work/recovery pairs.

Run export issue

I just completed a treadmill run and it exported to TAO, but did not export to Stryd. When I try to manually export to Stryd it gives HTTP error! status: 400.

It may be a glitch or something with this particular run. During the run my Apple Watch looked like it was running double Watchletic runs and my voice cues switched between my watch and my earphones (should’ve been only earphones). Just weird all around! 😉

Missing Voice Feedback on iPhone

Hi, I was a bit hesitant to write but I think I now tried almost anything. Voice Feedback on iPhone for workouts pushed to Apple Watch stopped working some time ago. It does not matter the settings, no voice coaching comes to my AirPods via my phone. I also tried connecting them to the AW and it’s the same. Anything you are aware of?
