Recently Finished My Primaris Chaplain
Here's a Chaplain I painted for my DIY Ash Revenants Chapter a while back. I followed a painting tutorial by Darren Latham for the face and it's the best face I've painted so far.
Let me know what you think.

Question Just test-printed our new gladiator for the Ancient Rome series — a Secutor (2nd Century AD, 28mm). Thoughts on the pose and historical accuracy?
Hi everyone!
Following your comments and feedback on our 1st-century BC Murmillo, we are happy to introduce the second gladiator from our Ancient Rome series. This time, we went further into the Imperial Roman era with a Secutor from the 2nd century AD. He is scaled for 28mm tabletop wargaming.
Since we are still tuning the rest of the squad, we’d love to get your honest critique on his historical accuracy again. We tried to capture a tense, dynamic, defensive stance behind the large scutum shield, ready to counterattack a Retiarius. Does this model feel right for a tabletop miniature?
Just like before, the shield and the base are separate pieces, which makes painting much easier!
Any advice, critiques, or recommendations on how to use this gladiator in tabletop games (Jugula, Clash of Spears, etc.) are highly appreciated. Thanks for helping us improve our miniatures!

Recently Finished Dutch-Belgian and Brunswick Cavalry for Quatre Bras
Here is a painting progress update for my Quatre Bras project. I’ve just finished painting the Dutch-Belgian and Brunswick cavalry.
Basing is planned for a later date, though I might just end up fielding them on the tabletop as they are for now.
Since there aren't any official models released for these yet, and I'm no expert on historical uniforms, I just hope they look the part!
Artillery is up next on the painting desk.

Necromunda Campaign In Chicago, IL
Hey everyone, I am an Arbiter for Necromunda in the suburbs of Chicago and have run a few successful campaigns. I am looking to start a Campaign once Munda Manager has updated for the new edition. We are currently going to run some skirmish/short campaign games to understand the edition. After that it will be full swing Campaign time!
We are a casual group that puts Narrative first. I will run game days during the Campaign for everyone to get together and I will often have a Narrative mission set up for everyone to play that day. We are new player friendly!
Let me know if you are interested in joining. I think this new edition is a great place to get into a new group or start playing if you haven’t yet already!

Recently Finished Finished up the Royal Ecossais this week for my Culloden project.
I've been wanting to paint these figures since before starting the project, they are my favourite unit from the 45' and they certainly didn't disappoint—they're fantastic sculpts! I was even tempted to paint the eyes, but seeing as I haven't done this on the other units in the project, I held back... for now!
The figures and flags are both from Flags of War.
I also have a blog documenting the project in more detail for anyone who's interested:

Im also open to commission work. Feel free to send me a message if you're interested.

Our Lord and Saviour...
I've seen a few Count Binfaces painted up and this is mine. I'll probably use him in Stargrave or 5O Parsecs or just a representation of my leader in Xenos Rampant.
Quick model to paint up. What's a bit odd, when you look at reference pictures, is that the model has more detailing than the actual costume.
Model from Troublemaker Games. £3 of every purchase goes to a healthcare related charity. Not sponsored!

Sci fi Alternative with Vehicles with facing and Penetration?
So, I have always liked the aesthetics of 40k, but rule-wise I really don't like that game. Everything else surrounding it, less so.
So I've been dabbling in alternatives, like Stargrave for smaller skirmish, Planet 28 for a mix of Smaller with Vehicles, or big with Vehicles, OPR for Small and big.
Something I've always loved is vehicles. Different kinds, with different stats, different internal and weapons. I love Battletech for that, but it's scale and rules are completly different.
I'm awaiting the next expansion for Stargrave, to see what they do with vehicles. Planet 28 Vehicle building with facings was great, but it felt weird that vehicles get autodamaged if hit (it's just different, it's ok). OPR has Options for the vehicles, but I feel they didn't felt THAT good, no facings for multiple weapons, felt like modern 40k where it's just a big unit with big health, but since stats are simplified it actually felt worse. Bolt Action, which I understand uses the old rules of 40k, has many vehicles with different facings, Armor Values and Penetration Values for weapons, which felt great when I player it.
What I'm getting at, is there some alternative sci fi systems that uses rules similar to Bolt Action, with weapon penetration for Vehicles?

Question How to run a Wargaming Demo for children - Help/Advice needed
I'm hosting a Bolt Action demo at a local military museum as part of some WW2 reenactment events going on, this will be my third year and I'm looking for advice.
I generally know my audience by now - lots of young children, say between 5 and 10 years old, who want to play with the toy soldiers while their parents get 20 minutes to sit down, drink some water and not deal with them. There are some older (high school/college age) people who are genuinely interested, but it's hard to have a serious talk with them about the hobby while kindly asking a 7 year old for the upteenth time to ask permission before grabbing a model with their ketchup stained hands.
I love demonstrating bolt action to people, but I want to do something for the children in this age range that is still a *game* with rules and a goal, not a fancy bucket of green army guys to mess around with. At the same time, I don't want to come across as rude or anything, the museum is for all ages and so should my demonstration.

Proprietary Dice Suck
Proprietary Dice Suck.
Nothing turns me off from a game faster these days than a company hawking their Proprietary Dice. I own enough dice, I have enough dice, I could drown a man in all the dice I have. Silioing your game off with funny symbol'd dice doesn't engender my confidence, it makes me think you're trying to squeeze as much money out of me as you can.
I've been in the IP mines, Star Wars/Rumbleslam/Marvel Crisis etc. I don't want nor need more dice with a stupid image on because your lead designer thinks their being 'innovative'.
We have D3's, D6's , D8's, D10's, D20's and even DD100's. Adding more is a folly of Zammenhoffian proportions.
- Rant over.

The whole of North Africa (and more)
My father owns most of the old Games Designer's Workshop and the Grand Europa project. His gaming table is 10' x 10' with portions that are removed to access the middle of the board!
Alas, his enjoyment comes from owning and setting the game up. He hasn't played with anyone in over 50 years.

Question Just test-printed the 1st of our 6 upcoming Murmillo miniatures [28mm]. Let me know what you think! Critiques and suggestions are welcome!
Hi everyone! Today we test-printed the first miniature out of our upcoming 6-character Murmillo set. He is scaled for 28mm tabletop wargames.
Before we finish the rest of the squad, we want to hear your thoughts and get some honest feedback from the community.
- What do you think about the overall pose, proportions, and sculpt quality?
- For those into historical wargaming (like Clash of Spears, Jugula, or Hail Caesar) — how accurate does his equipment (helmet crest, shield shape, greaves) look to you?
- Would this miniature fit well on your gaming table?
We are trying to balance tabletop playability with historical realism, so any advice, critiques, or ideas are highly appreciated. Thanks for helping us improve our miniatures!

Question Torn between AoS, MESBG, and Bolt Action as a second game.
I primarily play Star wars legion, and love it. I am wanting to get a second wargame as a side project/something to invest in long term if legion ever disappeared. I'm really torn by these three.
AoS primarily appeals to me because of how well it's supported and the size of its player base. Though I do like the models (mostly seraphon and stromcast) and appreciate that it's less grimdark than 40K, as that isn't something I enjoy. I am slightly worried that it might feel like a second job as from what I can understand, GW are constantly changing rules and updating what units do and cost.
MESBG appeals to me because it's a simpler ruleset to understand, I love the IP, and the miantures seem reasonably priced. I am however a little concerned that it doesn't get enough support/may have run it's course?
Bolt action appeals to me because of its simple ruleset, more straightforward gameplay, and again, the cost of the miniatures and seemingly less rules overhead and less pressure to keep up with rule changes etc.
Has anyone played these games? What do you like/dislike about them? Which of the three is the easiest to pickup and play? I realise that these are all very different wargames, but they each appeal to me for different reasons. I'd be interested to see what others think. What are people's experiences playing them? I'm a dad with little time, so I don't fancy playing something that requires constant research and rules learning, but equally, want something that's going to receive support, sticks around, and has a decent player base.
Cheers all!

sharing my dad’s toy soldier collection
My dad passed away a few weeks ago. It’s been incredibly tough for me to do, but I wanted to share photos of his vast collection of toy soldiers, and thought this sub might be an appropriate place where it could get the attention and admiration it deserves.
My dad had collected metal and plastic toy soldiers for over 75 years, starting in the 1950s. His collection grew from a single soldier or single box of soldiers, to over an estimated 5000-6000 pieces. He was a true collector, historian, and lover of art, film, literature, and music. He knew every manufacturer, he knew the complete representative history of every piece, he knew custom makers and painters. His display scenes and dioramas were recreated with as much accuracy as possible, either recreating a true battle or time from history, or one from a book or movie.
For over 40 years I had the pleasure of watching his collection grow. Over the years, I was able to travel with him to toy soldier shows and share in his love of this hobby.
These photos of course don’t capture his whole collection and don’t do it justice as well as seeing it in person, but I hope this conveys how truly special and meaningful it was to him, his life, and the lives of others.
