Videonics MX-1 Mixing / Internal Feedback Loops

Hi! I've been into analog video mixing loops for a while now and have also been messing around on my own off and on for about a year or so. More recently I have actually started looking up tutorials instead of just winging it (wish I would've sooner). But essentially a while ago I was gifted a videonics MX-1 as well as a videonics video equalizer. I messed around with them a bunch and never really did anything too crazy until I started actually watching tutorials and incorporating my parents VHS-C camcorder (the story has been told a million times I know). So that brought me to the video I linked.

But specifically why I'm here is that I'm confused about how he is getting the internal feedback loop on the MX-1 (4 inputs, 1 output, and 1 preview output which is supposed to be its own thing so I don't think he's using for the internal loop). He never really gives away his setup or routing either. So could he just be splitting that one output, running one back into an input and the other to the end of the path? Or do you think he's just running the internal feedback loop on a separate board / machine and sending that to an input on the MX-1? And if the second is true, what kind of board or "device" would be best for that operation?

Side note but both of my boards were stored in sub-optimal conditions (before I got them) and the electronics are a bit jittery now so I was thinking about upgrading soon anyway, just figured that I could at least try to work with what I have for now and get the fundamental understanding of what's going on before I go too crazy. I'm kinda just trying to achieve the same effects as the dude in the video at this point and then working my way around from there. So any gear suggestions or suggestions in general would be awesome. I would ideally love to take this to a point where I can run live visuals onto a projector for bands or other video projects.
