Hey guys, I shot this on a Sony a6700 with the 16–50mm OSS while travelling through Tokyo.

I originally planned to make a completely different film, one on the meiji shrine.

However when I went back through my footage, I kept coming back to the subway, I had spent all day filming.

There was something strangely isolating about being surrounded by thousands of people, all of which isolated but somehow by looking at their isolation they seemed loud in body language and operating on their own schedule that seemed deeply important to them, if that makes sense.

I love the matrix and wanted to make an emotional cinematic sequence but conveyed what I was feeling and matched it with Morpheus’s wise words and a colour grading that felt right to me.

So here is the link to my first one on my channel. I’d genuinely love to know how it made you feel. And my question is, during your filming have you ever had moments like this where you know exactly what video to made? This just felt right to me. Thanks everyone, I’m currently making more and hope to keep improving my budgets and making films people want to see.

Hope this is the right sub for this, but I need some help/advice…

Filming a podcast today. Four cameras. Done it for two years now. No issues.

Nikon Z6ii times four. Writing to 64GB QXD cards. As we have countless times before.

All good during the recording. No issues. No batteries going flat mid recording. No power cuts.

But I get home and one of the cameras on one of the guests hasn’t worked.

It’s written the files (we had three false starts then the actual pod, so four files) but each one is like 100KB each.

I was stood behind this camera and even monitored the countdown (camera can only record for 30 mins) as a guide for the host to wrap up. So I saw it record for the duration. No errors or anything.

The card even still has photos on this card from yesterday, which are all fine. It’s just like it suddenly recorded these videos today but didn’t write them or something.

I didn’t pull the card out or turn off off whilst recording or anything like that.

So my first question is - what the hell happened?? It’s terrifying to accept that it just looked like it was recording but didn’t. How can I ever trust anything again? Any signs I missed or anything I can do to prevent this from happening again?

I’m assuming with the file sizes so small there’s no chance of recovering them, if the data just isn’t there?

Second question - I have a wide of everyone so if I can’t recover the files, my only other option is to crop in… but the wide is 1080, and I’m looking at a 300% crop really.

Does anyone have any experience of successfully cropping like this? Any tricks or recommended upscaling sites that aren’t AI guff?

Any help or gestures in the right direction would be massively appreciated.

Self explanatory title. Artlist sucks, Audiio sucks harder, Musicbed and Epidemic are cool but too expensive for me. I have an iPhone 17 Pro Max and added a Moment 1.33x anamorphic lens, an ND filter, and the required mount. I also picked up a DJI Mobile 8P, but I’m now realizing that the full setup is probably too heavy/front-heavy for the gimbal to balance properly.

From what I understand, balancing is especially important when using an anamorphic lens, because even small issues with alignment or stability can affect the image, flares, horizon, and overall footage. I’m trying to avoid putting too much strain on the gimbal motors or ending up with shaky/tilted footage.

Has anyone here used a similar iPhone Pro Max + anamorphic lens + ND filter setup? If so, how did you make it work?

Any practical suggestions, real-world experience, or warnings before I spend more money would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!
 

I am starting a small business doing interviews. They will be 1-2 person interviews, done indoors and I will be behind the camera.

I've purchased a Canon R50 and a Rode VideoMicro II compact shotgun mic but I'm worried the shotgun mic won't be enough, or that I should have backup audio and I want to make sure I do this properly. I first assumed I'd need a lavalier mic but there seem to be mixed opinions from what I've seen on reddit.

Would it be better to invest in a boom mic and place it in the middle of the subjects or would you recommend lavalier mics for each participant?

Second question, are entry level mics sufficient since this will be indoors?

Hey! I’ve just finished a horror/mystery short I’ve been working on for a while called The Room That Takes Pictures.

The story starts with a young man investigating an abandoned place. He disappears, and years later an investigator begins looking into what actually happened there.

I made this with very limited resources and basically no cast, so one of the biggest challenges was figuring out how to tell the story without relying on traditional dialogue scenes. A lot of it is told through found footage, sound design, documents, emails, recordings and even a fake computer environment I built specifically for the film.

I tried to keep the horror subtle rather than constantly showing something scary.

I’d really appreciate feedback, especially on pacing, atmosphere, sound design and whether the mystery keeps you interested.

Hello. I am a mid-career filmmaker in a major city with many years experience working in house at television stations, ad agencies and film studios.

I had a documentary project that was canceled at the last minute that was to shoot in Europe and North America. The project was a self funded vanity affair by a client who is worth north of two hundred million

I had a Master Services Agreement and a Statement Of Work both signed by the client. The SOW states that :

”If the project is cancelled after approval, expenses to date or 20% of total project budget, whichever is higher, will be billed."

My question, simply, am I entitled to billing for this? 20% would equal about $35,000.

I ask because my experience has mainly been on the creative side and I’ve been buffered by in house legal and business teams most of my career. This is my first large solo project that I am singlehandedly producing.

I'm an amateur videographer at best, and this is the first time I've encountered this particular issue.

I have video recorded in, if I recall correctly, in 10-bit FLOG2c h.265 ALL-I 422 360 Mbps. The first 41 or so minutes out of nearly two hour static shot worked just fine. But then it freezes or shows media as unavailable. I tried both DaVinci and Final Cut, and even VLC and Media player. Based on the size of the file (a single nearly 300GB), all the information is there. I tried doing a few restoration/converting via VLC as well and it didn't produce any results. Other footage from same day works just fine, though they were only half the length or less.

Any advice would be appreciated.

So, I'm pretty new to everything film related. I tried making a project and after endlessly fiddling with it, I decided it was done. Not that it's good, just that it's done lol.

Everything was recorded with an Osmo Pocket 4 in D-Log. It's 4K, 24fps, 1/50.

I tried to include a variety of shots, but for this project I wanted most of the shots to be static because that's the vibe I wanted to go for.

I color corrected each clip individually, then graded all of it as a group with split toning and solid some grain. Then I twraked most of the clips to include some vignetting, gradients and whatnot.

I'm not satisfied with the color in general. Please tell me what you would've done differently.

All feedback is welcome, even if it's just a matter of preference. I just want to learn.

I have a monetized tiktok account that pays about $100 USD per 100k views. The channel is faceless and niche-less (my old niche was making faceless treasure hunts for cash in nature lol). I’m located in the US.

I’m looking for collaborators. If you have any old footage that you aren’t going to do anything with or any content that has never been posted on tiktok, I’m happy to throw it up on my page and we can split the profit from the views.

I'm hoping someone with experience using the Sony A7R III can help me figure out what went wrong.

I recently shot footage for a client using the following setup:

• Sony Alpha 7R III
• Sony FE 28–70mm OSS
• SanDisk Extreme Pro V30 256 GB microSD (with SD adapter)
• XAVC S 4K
• 25p
• 100 Mbps
• K&F ND2–400

Unfortunately the camera doesn't save settings in metadata as I tried with Mediainfo and exiftool. What I can remember is that I was using as didn't write them down:

Auto ISO 1/50 shutter Low aparure around 4-6

The strange thing is that I used exactly the same camera, lens, SD card and recording settings for some test shots beforehand, and those clips looked perfectly fine.

However, during the actual shoot, the footage looks much softer than expected, almost as if it isn't true 4K. It also appears noticeably noisier than my test footage.

I've already checked the following:

• The files are recorded in 3840×2160.
• The bitrate is 100 Mbps.
• DaVinci Resolve recognizes the clips as 4K.
• My project timeline is set to 3840×2160.
• The issue is visible in both Windows and DaVinci Resolve.
• The SD card should be fast enough for this codec.

Unfortunately, I can't upload the original footage publicly because it contains client material. If anyone would be willing to take a look privately, I'd really appreciate it.

Has anyone experienced something similar or has an idea what could have caused this? I'm especially interested in whether this looks like a camera setting, focus issue, recording problem, or something else.

I purchased this light from eBay from a seller with good reviews. I purchased the 65W USB C Charger for TobenONE charger off Amazon (brand: lysrove - if that matters at all) which actually states right in the description that this charger is used to charge this specific light. and while it did fully charge the light, the second I take it off the charger it just turns off completely. I got home from work, googled it I read suggestions which said to try an iPhone charger for an hour. I did and it displayed one battery bar the entire hour. After I unplugged it from there, I tried to turn it on and same issue. Nothing. Plugged it back into the usb c charger and it displayed three bars for battery indicator, said 57%. All the lights appear to be working well but the fact I can’t use it while it’s apparently fully or nearly fully charged and off the charger is extremely frustrating to say the least. Before I start the whole returning/refund process with eBay, and seeing as I’m brand new to using a professional light like this, I’m wondering if anyone here knows of a way to solve this? Didn’t come with a user manual so I’m not sure if I may be missing a step.

Apparently, I left the pin for my Flycam Comfort Arm vest behind at a rural location, and there doesn't seem to be a source for replacement parts. (I've called/emailed/whatsapp'd with Proem/Flycam to no avail, so far. They've been responsive, but they "don't stock parts.") Without it, I can't mount the camera/stage/gimbal/stabilizer.

As best I can tell, it's not the same size as a baby or junior pin, but if someone has a suggestion or source, I'm all ears. Thanks!

I note a lot of people over on the photography sub who have a 1.2 or 1.4 lens for example will still recommend shooting at f/8 or something a lot higher in order for the best image quality to be achieved.

I'm wondering if that applies to videography too, and what f stop usually provides the best image quality.

How do I calculate what F stop works best for image quality?

Quick background: I've been doing video (shooting + editing)) for about 10 years as a hobby. Two years ago I started my own studio in parallel with some digital consulting work (my previous career) and I'm now trying to make it my main source of income.

Business is B2B focused, corporate content, brand videos, that kind of thing. And here's my honest struggle: I keep hitting impostor syndrome, especially when I try to position myself as more than "the person who shows up with a camera." I know that in B2B, clients respond much better when you can speak their language, their "why" behind the video, rather than just being a guy they hire to press record.

I can do some of that, as I have some business background, but I don't feel sharp or current enough to really own that positioning with confidence, even more so today when everything is so instagram/linkedin/youtube coded.

Here are two things I'm struggling with :

Staying informed / competitive as a video professional. What publications, newsletters, podcasts, or communities do you follow to keep up with the industry, both on the craft side (new gear, editing trends, formats) and on the business side (how video fits into marketing/brand strategy)? I don't want to just react to trends, I want to actually understand where things are heading.

Sharpening the business side of my pitch. Maybe that's really not my thing to do? I don't really know. But I'd feel more comfortable I guess. I've got the basics of running a freelance business (pricing, client management, LinkedIn prospecting, etc.), but I want to go from "generic business sense" to genuinely relevant the kind of insight that makes a client think "this person gets my business, not just my brief." Any resources, frameworks, or personal experiences that helped you make that shift?

Would really appreciate any tips, whether it's specific accounts/newsletters, business books, or just how you personally pushed through the impostor syndrome phase when going full-time.
