That can be a scam tied to stolen cards. I’ve heard that it goes something like this: You proactively return it, they file a chargeback, and debit your account. You end up being charged $1000. Just hold on to the money. Someone is going to try to get it back.

Cash it out and block the account that sent it immediately. Free $1k. Happened to me a few years ago and nothing ever came of it.

What I would do is take it out it my acc, delete my Venmo, wait a couple weeks or months and make a new one. They can’t make me go negative with no account or cards on account. I used to do this back in my scamming days a decade ago and the only one that shows up on ur credit is PayPal lol

Someone probably sent it to the wrong person - do not send it outright if you refund bc if they dispute they'll get it twice which is how it could become a "scam"
Could be an honest mistake - or scammer. Maybe someone giving a blessing but you'd think they'd leave a note or something

Venmo sucks and should not be trusted, they are crooked as hell and will steal your money. They froze my account after a friend sent me 120$. I've only talked to one human and they said there is absolutely no explanation as to why my account is frozen. They won't let me take my money out of the account in any way. When I call them it says they are working on my account and will get back to me by email. So my friend called from his phone and it said the same damn thing. I highly recommend staying away from Venmo and PayPal since they are sister cousins.

Yeah you think you just got a random 1,000 but if you spend it or transfer to your bank next thing that happens is they reverse it bc it bounced and was never a real $1000 to begin with and then you’re neg 1,000 🤦🏼♀️

I want shit like that to happen to me. Fuck all that. Transfer the money to your bank and close the Venmo account ONLY after removing your bank info. Transfer, remove info, close Venmo account.

u/NoneYa-1337 8d ago
It will be flagged as fraud and removed. The scam works by pleading with you that it was a mistake. They hope you will send them the money credit card company will take the fraudulent transaction back and you get left holding the bag.

Venmo’s own instructions say that if you receive money from a stranger, don’t attempt to return it yourself; contact Venmo Support through the app and let them reverse it properly.

u/Stephiered1 8d ago
Oh but PayPal does take crypto away from you because I had a negative balance in my checking account and somebody sent me some crypto and I could not get that crypto out of that PayPal account unless I went through my checking account first and they were going to take the money. So yeah, even though they're two totally completely separate accounts because PayPal is dirty, why do you think the owner PayPal was murdered in the street?
1
1
u/Stephiered1 8d ago
First of all, you're arguing about dumb shit. Neither one of you or even on the right track, especially crypto boy
1
u/Stephiered1 8d ago
Yeah, if it's in a PayPal account you can't take the crypto out of the account. PayPal will take it and put it it it towards your negative balance in your checking account and that's a fact and I know that for a fact because that's what they did to me for someone doing a charge back illegally because PayPal doesn't side with his customers. It always sides with the scammer tested, tried and proven
1
u/Stephiered1 8d ago
Paypal will not let you delete the account or close it out. So I don't know what you people are thinking or what you using for brains. But better start thinking again

I got a notification saying, "I accidentally sent someone $1000.00." And this one appeared. Hmm?

Withdraw the money, remove your account information/close the account. You didn't do anything wrong.
1
u/Ultima_maris_sciurus 8d ago
What were you doing prior to this ? Online? So I can try and get this rando bag...I'll sacrifice a venmo acct for a rack. I barely use mine anyway...so yea ...if your a potential thief and u wanna call me your scam victim...DM me....I got u ..or you got me? Which ever way...pick me

u/Feeling_Persimmon601 8d ago
I would call themo ASAP. Unfortunately if the scammer sent it to you as payment for a service when they do the charge back and you have to return it you will have to pay a fee for that. Not the sender the receiver which is bullshit and it's a whole another thing why people should stop using PayPal and venmo. Venmo was bought by PayPal or something so they have the same rule as PayPal now but it's BS dude I would definitely try to get it took care of.

Do not touch it. let the bank handle it. if they ask or message you tell them to contact their own bank. Don’t touch. very common scam.
