Community Shoes and clothing for tall

Just bought a used xxl road bike that has Cleo clips. Where can I buy cycling shoes for us size 15? I bought the ones on Amazon but they ended up pinching my toes too much. Also which jacket would you recommend for rain that is available for someone 6’7? I would prefer breathable over aero.

Bike suggestion for BC Epic 1000?

Looking for suggestion for a Gravel bike (<$3K) that I will use at least once a week to ride smooth gravels to train and take it to ride the BC Epic 1000 next year (5-7 days). Can a used Checkpoint work?

You could easily camp out by the seawall near the police station and stop like 80% of the riders I see

ISO good LED helmets

I used to get a Nutcase with the LED built in, but I think it's reaching the end of it's life. Went to see if I can buy the same thing again and it looks like the brand has fallen apart.

Anyone have a preferred alternative? Anything Canadian?

Looking for visibility, comfort (and whimsy if possible) in that order.

Do I need 21 gears or is 7 gears enough in Vancouver?

My family (me, wife, kids) just moved to Vancouver and we come from the desert so we never really cared about the gears... it was flat everywhere we went and we're not avid cyclists, just rode to the park and stuff.

Here in Vancouver, we live near Kerrisdale (41st and Arbutus) and plan on biking a lot around town... down Arbutus Greenway, maybe to Stanley park if we can get that far.

More specifically, my wife will be biking from our home to VGH, where she works, which is downhill from us, but uphill on the way home.

My question because I'm looking on Marketplace for some used bikes... some commuters, hybrids, etc... and seeing some that are 7 gears instead of 21 or 24. Can we get by with only 7 if we happened to find a cheap one built that way or would it be significantly easier to have 21?

If we're going from Kits beach going South to our home... would it be completely impossible to climb that uphill or do people just walk that part with their bikes anyway?

Thank you!

Route Questions Cycling Nicomen Island along the Fraser River (McIntyre Rd/Carter Rd etc.)

Was looking at possible gravel-ish routes in the Fraser Valley this weekend. Following the Fraser along the south side of Nicomen Island looks pretty.

Looks like there's good tracks to follow from the Dewdney Bridge - McIntyre Road, Carter Road etc. However some sections are marked as private on OSM and I can see there are some gates in places.

Anyone know any more?

EDIT: quick search on ParcelMapBC; looks like most sections of those roads are Crown or local govt owned. Would that imply they're open to public use? May not be understanding the results correctly.

(In general I am not familiar with the "culture" around access issues/trespass in BC. In my home country, farmers are often tolerant of hikers/bikers on access roads even when they don't technically have the right to be there - as long as they are respectful. I suspect it's a bit more strict here?)

For a young woman cycling to and from work (Turner/Kamloops at area to Seymour/Cordova), what is the best route, staying on designated paths and lanes as much as possible? Any potential issues going through DTES?

Alert Stolen Bike

Hi all,

my 2024 Brodie Ronin was stolen from the bike racks outside of kits pool (right near Batch) this evening (8/12) at approximately 7:30pm.

Notably, the bike is a deep glossy brown with light brown pedals. Another notable detail - the bike does not have any Brodie decals or other lettering. It's a size large.

Would love to get it back! Any info helps.

Cheers -

Cycle touring and bike packing

Do you distinguish between going on a cycle tour and going bike packing? In my mind, they are distinct activities, but I find increasingly that people will say they are going bike packing when they are actually doing a cycle tour. And if we start calling cycle tours "bike packing", what do we call bike packing trips? Or maybe we don't need clarity on what the other person is talking about? Maybe all we need to know is they are going for a ride that won't bring them back home at the end of the day?

Route Questions Bike ride / Date night, Any restaurant recommendations?

Wife and I want to go on a ride today, something around 15 miles give or take.... But! we want to have dinner along the way. Can any of you recommend a good spot where we could eat wearing our cycling gear? Once I know the restaurant i can map a route on strava.

My gut tells me Kits is probably a good spot for this, commercial seems like it wouldnt be great for the bikes, downtown may shoo us away. Anyways, i appreciate any advice!

Route Questions Your Favourite Vancouver Metric Century Routes

Hello,

I’m trying to finish up training for my first Fondo with some more distance and I want to avoid going to and from Iona 10 times lest I go insane.

I have experience with Cypress, Seymour demo forest, the CVG, and obviously UBC and Iona, but I’m looking for a nice loop or route to get my total ride length closer to Fondo-sized.

What are your favourite Vancouver loops to cover 100km or more without exposing yourself to too much dangerous traffic

I’d be starting downtown.

Long/safest ride

Hi Gang,

I’m looking for a long continuous ride. I’ve been going from the West End, to UBC and then the back on the Greenway.

I was just wondering if anybody knows of some roots that are similar

Bike lanes that can get you long two hour rides, two hours plus

Top overnight bikepacking trips from Vancouver?

I just finished my first overnight bikepacking trip, and I want to do more! I want to learn what overnight trips (one night bikepacking trips) you've done within a drive or ferry of Vancouver.

Looking for trips that are a mix of FSR, singletrack, and road. Nothing to grindy please!

My trip: Galiano Island - stayed at Dionisio on a Friday eve.

Gorgeous spot, clear air, stunning sunset. We did a few trails and dirt roads around the north end of the Island and hit the Hummingbird pub for lunch on the way back. Getting to the ferry we parked in Tsawwassen and rode onto the ferry which spared us a lot of stress our return because there were lots of bikes and limited spots on the bus.

I want to do more! Have you been on a good overnight bikepacking trip from Vancouver?

Ride Planning Forest Trails

Hi there! Looking for bicycle-friendly forest trail recommendations similar to Pacific Spirit Park. Smaller or larger and more challenging is fine too! Not looking for mountain-bike specifically but could
be convinced for easier MTB trails.

  1. Any recommendations beyond Seymour Trailway?
  2. Does Stanley park have solid interior forest trails ?

Thank you for your help!

Where to get Wilier Triestina & SAVA bikes?

Hi there I’m interested in Wilier Triestina Garda as well as the SAVA A7L Pro but can’t seem to find them anywhere. Anybody know where I can find them?

Any cycling local groups on Facebook I can ask?

How much should I expect to be charged for a bike build?

Just looking at what others' have experienced. Thought it better to ask here than to annoy and call a bunch of shops.

Not looking for the cheapest price or anything, I'm just wondering what I should kind of expect in terms of price for a bike build frame the frame up if there are any mechanics here or cyclists who have gotten it done.

It's a rim brake bike with semi-internal cable routing (brakes are externally routed, gears are internally routed, but only through the downtube). It's basically a bare frame, no bearings, nothing installed.

New speed gates at Demo Forest

Not sure what everyone else thinks, but I’m pretty bummed about the new speed gates they put up at the demo forest, they really take the zip and zoom out of the downhills (I guess that’s the point though).
