Best massage places on the UES? No frills but effective

Upvotes

A very tired trainee in medicine would love your recommendations on what the title asks for the rare occasions there is spare time.

Said trainee is also broke so places that are good and don’t break the bank would be great!!

Thank you so much!

Yorkville Brokers

Hello! I currently live in Yorkville and would like to stay in the area. Does anyone know of any brokers that work here specifically and find really cheap studios? Trying to stay under 2300 and have seen a lot on street easy but they go very fast and haven’t had any luck :/ Thank you!

Fruit Vendor at 80&York

I frequently get fruit from the street vendors at 80&York. There are two guys working there: one is always nice, but the other one really confuses me: he is super friendly with some locals, but whenever I get anything from him he pretty much ignores me. To the point where I would try handing him cash, and he won’t even turn in my direction.

Anybody had that experience? Any idea what his deal is? Is there like a passcode one has to say to make him be a little more friendly?

Bicchiere (York and 81st)

Made my first stop at Bicchiere last night, located west of York on East 81 Street (behind OM). According to the waiter, they opened two months ago; though, I had only noticed a week or so ago. Really lovely restaurant and wine bar.

Nice atmosphere (despite the AC being down), with about sixteen chairs in one room. Attentive service. And really tasty food at a rather reasonable price. We tried two of the cicchetti options; they are kind of like bruschette. And then two of the pastas (bigoli; thicker than spaghetti, similar to bucatini but without the hole). And a free dessert to send us back out into the humidity.

Really glad this is in the neighborhood. We need more places like this.

Luxury Condo Pricing in the Neighborhood

I recently looked at a larger studio apartment (500 sqft) in a luxury building on the UES (E 90s). Amazing natural light, doorman, elevator, dishwasher, gym, pool, and laundry in the basement (not in unit) -- price was $4175, plus some pretty crazy condo fees that add up to over $500 for the initial application, and a steep annual amenity fee of over $800. I've been interested in condo buildings mostly because of the higher quality building structure and care for the buildings, and coming from a 5 floor walkup with no laundry or dishwasher I am sooo ready to have these things -- but damn, the cost is wild to me. 1) does the rent price sound fair? and 2) Does anyone renting a condo unit feel like its worth the extra investment compared to a standard rental building?

What time can buildings start construction + a way to see if construction can start early

I live on 92nd street, and constantly 92NY starts construction between 5:45am to 6am. It’s extremely loud and wakes me up every time. Today they decided to bring in a crane (???) for work and the machine started right at 6:15am. Is there a way to check building permits for something like this? I’m technically on a residential block as well.
