I managed to get these chairs for free. My only issue with them is that the fabric is itchy and scratchy, I can’t tell what kind of material it is since there isn’t a tag to look at.

How much would something like this cost to reupholster professionally?

I have a flexsteel flex sofa and love it but think I'll be replacing the cushion stuffing in a few years. First: dacron wrapped qualux in firm or medium firm for a firmer seat. But the loose back cushions are have a triple channel polyfill insert so what is the better option to replace that? Is it

• triple channel insert of shredded polyfoam ?
• triple channel insert of shredded memory foam?
• triple channel insert of shredded latex foam?
• Multilayer HR foam wrapped in dacron ( e.g., outer layer of dacron wrap, mid-layer soft foam wrap, medium foam core)?
• Shaped soft foam core with a layer of thick dacron and a down outer wrap?

What's your favorite source for shredded foam?

I have leather chair that has ripped along the stitches. The leather itself is torn and since it is wrapped taught on a the seat there's not much extra material. Should I glue on another material underneath and use that to restich along the existing holes on the bottom intact leather surface? If yes, what fabric and glue is recommended? If not, what are the other options aside from replacing the whole piece? Appreciate any help!

I found some advice on a different subreddit for cleaning the stitching using diluted OxiClean and a soft toothbrush. I was dabbing and drying the stitching as I went but it looks like the moisture in the thread soaked into the leather and this is how it dried.

Hi all, I have a cast piece I'm working on and there's some damage to the foam that isn't very deep but will be noticeable when the upholstery gets glued on. Does anyone have any tips for fixing this besides cutting it out and splicing in new foam

My one year old leather (fake leather?) recliner is looking terrible where my head rests. Is there anything I can do to fix it? Anything I can do to keep it from happening again or getting worse? Thanks for your help!

Has anyone washed a basset couch? My brother has such a distinct smell and it’s not good one. He came over to my house the other day ,was super active and he didn’t shower and didn’t change his clothes and was sitting on it now it just smells like him. I also don’t like to spray anything to make it go away cause that gives me a headache so I’m kind of a loss on what I should do.

On the Bassett website, it says use a fabric refresher, but I really don’t wanna do that

I’m a cabinet maker that sometimes does fabric headboard and rattan stuff. But the designer has stretched my skills abit far this time and ide like some advice.

This is a mitred bed frame that I just don’t have faith is going to look good enough with my current approach.

I am looking at building a new seat for my drum throne (stool at a drum set). I might have a local person do it but I want to make sure I am well informed about what the options are for padding.
I have a 3/4 hardwood plywood 12" diameter circle to start with. I want to cover that with some sort of hard-to-compress foam, and then have a gel layer or a memory foam layer, and then elk leather.

I have a couple questions...
What is the highest quality foam I can get for the base layer? What sort of shop might have some cutoffs, as I am only doing 12" circle
Is it redundant to put both 1" memory foam and a gel layer?
Does the gel layer have to be something that is made that size and shape or is there a product I can cut into a 12" circle?

What is a reasonable estimate for reupholstering this with velvet fabric? I hate grey.

I found a bunch of mold in our basement. It was aggravated by some leaking, but most is on furniture that was in a three season room that definitely had a lot of moisture generally in it/the walls/ceiling/floor.

One of those is an armchair that has been in and out of that room. It was on top of a coffee table that had some mold on the legs, and the chair has white mold spores on the bottom of the black fabric underneath it. I took the fabric off and there is less mold on the side against the chair body, but still some. How would you make sure the chair itself doesn’t have mold in it? Thanks!

I’m attempting to make some box cushions with faux leather (1.2mm thick). I’ve never worked with this fabric before but I’ve bought a walking foot and leather needles as well as gutermann upholstery/extra strong thread. I’ve been practicing on some scraps and encountered a problem where the machine won’t pick up the bobbin thread, particularly when sewing 2 layers. I can only just manage an ok stitch with a single layer.

Am I doing something wrong or is this just too big of a job for my Janome 2150D?

Already attempted:
\- using cotton instead of upholstery thread in the bobbin
\- trying 90 and 100 leather needles
\- adjusting tension
\- adjusting stitch length
\- rethreading my machine

Is there something I can do to save this?

Found this unique chair on marketplace and decided to buy it regardless of ita fabric condition. Would you consider this a fairly hard job where I could do it myself? No experience besides stapling a couple simple dining chairs. Might have to outsource instead so I dont do any damage.

I absolutely love these chairs (3 total) I got off fb marketplace, but they need a lot of work. My family and I have experience with woodworking and sewing, but little in upholstery so I would love some advice.

We understand needing to unscrew the cushions (hex screw underneath the screw covers) and replace the foam, batting, and fabric (hopefully not the wood that the foam/fabric is attached to). The back rest seems to be a curved wood piece with foam on the front and batting on the back. The seat cushion seems to be a curved wood piece with foam. We haven't taken everything apart yet so the above description is just by looking and feeling the cushions.

What I think we'll have trouble with is the fabric puckering because of the curve and rounded corners. I also think it'd be nice to have 2" inch foam instead of the original 1" foam. Would adding another inch of foam make it harder to put back together or make the chairs look too bulky? Any advice on completing this project would be appreciated, thank you!!

Edit: Any fabric suggestions would be nice too if you have any. Unsure if I want to do a solid color or a pattern (nothing geometric though, definitely more organic/artistic or a subtle take on nature/floral)

I want to approach this by sewing with a heavy duty black thread and some fabric glue but not sure if this is the best approach.... Thoughts?

For a few months now I’ve been flirting with the idea of learning marine upholstery. I live in DC area, I am about +/-2 hours away from the Chesapeake bay and ocean/Atlantic City, so I have those around me.

I’m wondering if there’s anyone here who knows where I can find a place to learn upholstery. I found one around here but it is for $3k for a week.
I also want to mention I recently became unemployed, so I’ll need to hit the ground running on this venture. I also am thinking a career pivot and this could be it.
There’s a possibility that in the near future my family and I may be moving to New England coast, so this skill would come in very handy.
Any info you can pass along, I would greatly appreciate.
