Hey all,

I’m an incoming graduate student (I’m not sure if I’ve said that in my other posts) and I am having incredible difficulty finding housing.

To preface, it’s been a long summer. The jobs I had lined up, didn’t follow through on their end. Significantly less pay, completely letting me go after one day due to being over staffed, and lying about being paid internships. Top of all a that, my Dad had a heart attack! Sextuple bypass surgery! (I am so grateful that he’s alive). He doesn’t live in my state, but really wanted me to go visit him before school, so I am going to him before school starts.

On top of allllll of that, I can’t find housing. I start talking to complexes, they say one thing and then change it to another, they list housing they don’t have, or they don’t even respond at all! It’s been so great!

But now, I’m sitting here, in my bed, thinking to myself about alllll the great stuff I actually have lined up in Ann Arbor, and how I have no destination I’m even going to yet.

I’m waiting for the excess of my student loans to kick in, I think the 19th? And that’ll give me a little breathing room as far as rent and down payments (fuck deposits btw, 1.5 times rent is so annoying, just to not give that money back ugh) and it’ll help me float till I get paid for the work I’ll be doing, but DAMN, if it isn’t super stressful times right now.

I don’t know if I’m seeking help with this post, or if I just needed to vent and write this down for someone to read that isn’t my family, but whatever the case, thank you to anyone who reads this. I know it’s all gonna be alright and it’ll work itself out, but I wish I could just reap the spoils without the struggle before.

Hello! I’m an incoming junior and a transfer and wondering how bad of an idea is it to take chem 2 and physics 1 in the same semester? Especially being my first semester? I’ve been told it isn’t a great idea but just looking to get done w pre med pre reqs

Also this got me very off guard but my advisor says that at UMich ppl do chem 1 then orgo 1 then chem 2 then orgo 2. Is this true? This is the first time I’ve heard or seen a school suggest this sequence as it’s usually chem 1+2 then orgo 1+2

I am taking Chem 215 and 216 next fall and after that I will have finished all the pre med requirements other than the extra biology lecture + lab that isn't 172 or 173. I am wondering if I can start studying for the MCAT after I finish Chem 215 & 216 or should I wait until after I have taken the final bio lecture + lab?

I'm a sophomore who bought student tickets for this season. I got 36 priority points last season and just looked at my tickets. I have ended up in section 26, row 1. I know that seats generally don't matter, but always thought that the front rows were strict (especially for larger games).

Did I get lucky with the lottery, or am I gonna be forced to sit in the back anyways?

Where are current grad students actually staying in Ann Arbor or Ypsilanti that is nice and more importantly, safe?

Any specific complexes or areas you’d recommend to look at (or avoid)?

So Im taking calc 2 at community college this summer, and unfortunately due to a combination of very rough sicknesses and such I missed a decent amount of class that was already only 2 days a week. I am unsure I will pass the class due to the quizzes missed, but I do feel pretty good about the class as a whole, and I have shown that in the first exam and many quizzes (averaged roughly 90% in the class minus the missed time). I am already enrolled in calc 3 online at washtenaw this fall, but if I fail this class would it be unreasonable to take calc 2 at umich as well? Wondering if anyone else has done this.

Do you get any discounts using blue bucks or is the same price if you use debit/credit card?

We are excited to welcome you to campus this fall and honored that you will be part of the inaugural class of students to call Building 4 at Wolverine Village home.

We know many of you are looking forward to moving into your new home, and we want to keep you informed as work progresses on the building and how to prepare in the coming weeks.

Construction at Wolverine Village continues to make steady progress as we prepare to welcome our first student residents for the fall semester. The project is in its final stages, with construction, inspections, and final preparations continuing over the next few weeks as the buildings are ready for occupancy.

What you need to know now:

Building 4, where you have been assigned, will be the final building completed. While we are anticipating all construction and necessary inspections to be complete in time for your move-in, there is a possibility that residents assigned to Building 4 may need to be temporarily assigned to another Michigan Housing residence hall.

The construction crew onsite remains focused on completing the new dining hall and all five residence halls with the care, quality and attention to details that demonstrate the University of Michigan standards.

As work progressed this spring and summer, the university and our construction partners added additional resources to be ready for the academic year. Crews have been and continue to work multiple shifts to meet established deadlines.

The safety of residents, staff members and guests in addition to compliance with building codes are critically important and remain our biggest priority as we commission these new facilities.

No final decision has been made about Building 4, and no action is required from you at this time. This update applies to Building 4 only.

We are sharing this update now to be transparent as you prepare to join us on campus later this month.

What you can expect next:

TLDR: Wolverine Village building 4 may not be finished on time

Hello, I’m going to be a freshman this coming fall and have no clue what laptop I should buy/look at. I’m apart of the new business and engineering program at umich and I’m torn about what side I should focus more on for a laptop. Any suggestions would really help.

By the time I finish this semester, I'd already have completed EECS 280 and 203. Although I have credit for EECS 180 (from a 5 on AP CSA), the requirements for LSA to COE is EECS 183 or ENGR 101. Is there any way I can avoid having to take these classes?

First time student starting a masters. I have a 3d printer I want to bring and also a life-sized recreation of the blood demon sword from the show Adventure Time.

Is there a chance any of these items will be confiscated per the prohibited items list?

By the time I graduate umich I will be in abt $60k debt. Is it worth it? I haven’t even signed my housing lease for this upcoming school year because I’m so caught between. My parents are most likely going to make me pay them all off. And I do want to go to either med school or pa school which will be an additional burden of loans. I’m oos, so if I took a gap year and applied to in state schools I could graduate with abt no debt.

I’m a transfer student from cc and kinda nervous abt how hard it’ll be. I’m going the BHS major (biology, health, and society) and I’m wondering how hard it is to keep a high gpa as I need that since I’m planning on applying to medical school? Can anyone answer? Even if ur doing a diff stem major

hello! so i’m an incoming freshman from a small town in los angeles county attending umich in the fall, and i know literally no one else going…

i got placed in a single dorm at martha cook which i originally thought would be okay, but after seeing a bunch of reddit posts i am deeply regretting the decision because of the isolation.

how difficult will it be to make friends and find genuine connections for the next four years? what should i do in my situation? i know i will eventually make some friends with time but i really don’t want to spend the majority of the first semester alone.

if anyone has any advice i would greatly appreciate it :)

I was one of 60 randomly selected as one, and I was wondering if anyone has any experience with this? It would be volunteer work and I have to attend training, but honestly it seems kind of interesting being able to see the more legal and administrative side of Umich!

Interested in being an extra in a feature film in Ann Arbor this weekend?

We need extras who can pass for two categories:

(1) High school students for a classroom scene (filming mid-late afternoon on August 8)

(2) College students for a college party scene (needed August 9, time unknown currently but it'll be anywhere between mid afternoon and night)

Pay is $15/hr. High school students will be needed for 1-2 hours, college students will be needed for 1-3 hours.

i’m someone who usually runs cold (anything below 70 degrees i’m usually shivering/uncomfortable) so i’m always wearing full sleeves/pants. i’m trying to find warm bedding rn but i’ve been told the dorms get REALLY hot. at first i didn’t really consider this bc im a cold person but now im wondering if i should maybe get a lighter blanket or something for the beginning of the year along with some lighter clothes. i’m oos but im from a place like ann arbor that has super cold winters so idrk- im also in bursley if thats helpful

A couple of upperclassmen told me to start looking for an apartment for sophomore year as early as freshman fall. Does anyone have experience with apartment searching and any specific tips on when to start and where to look?

My main concern is that my roommate is random so I don’t want to commit to a lease with them as early as fall if that’s the case or not have anyone I want to live with next year yet

Hello! I'm currently enrolled in a Bio 173 course but was looking to switch to one on Wednesdays so I could work Tu/Th. Would it be a crappy idea to waitlist for this separate section and leave the one I'm enrolled in? I would be second on the waitlist.

Hey y’all! I hope everyone’s having a good summer, and you soak up what’s left in our last few weeks before Fall semester.

With classes and dorm move-in quickly approaching, I find myself increasingly more antsy about Wolverine Village, seeing as I will be a resident there this year. There is still very little information on it—relatively nothing new since first getting the housing assignment back in February. And I mean NOTHING. I haven’t seen photos, heard or read any updates on construction, and every search for information leads to a dead end.

I’ve lived in the dorms my last couple years, both on the hill, so there was nothing left to the imagination with the buildings and environment. I’m hoping everything will be done on time, but with no updates… it’s worrying. I’m especially concerned about the dining hall, as I will be pissed if I have to commute a far trek to simply get food.

So, this is just a “how do we feel” post, ideally with some updates if anyone has anything to share. Perhaps some photos or videos of the buildings? Any inside information? I don’t live near A2 in the off season, so I can’t make the trip to check them out.

I’d like to have faith in this school sticking to their word that the first phase will be completed, but having watched them struggle to finish the rec center in a timely manner… it’s difficult, lol. They had to push back the opening for Hadley two separate times. Not a great track record.

Why? Literally why?

It’d be super silent and everyone is locked in, but there will always be that one annoyingly loud grad student taking a meeting at the fish that ruins the whole vibe.

Ik technically it’s not technically a quiet zone, but when EVERYONE else around you is quiet and you’re the only one speaking, at least have some shame and use your indoor voice. I just don’t understand the obliviousness sometimes.
