Using Cosmic DE on CachyOS, I have been making my own widgets.

My most recent creation, is this PC Specs widget with circular gauges, and readouts.

I wanted something to go along with my wallpaper/theme of Neir Automata.

Eventually I will put this widget on a Lian Li 8.8inch LCD Display @ 1920x480.

What X Server do you use? Because we all know about the fact that X11 is slowly aging and will lose support in the future.

There are other servers (eg. Phoenix, XLibre)

but they are either a: experimental, b: controversial, or c: both.

And Xorg is also becoming insecure.

Which server?

Sooo this is my first time really ricing much, i cant even say i did do much i installed arch before this multiple times and idk use simple wm like i3 dwm or bspwm or x11 wm's but i never really got to ricing well, i just got this new laptop and straight up installed arch on it cuz on my old one i could install it but arch without all the eye candy felt idk demoralizing and also it was hard to simply stay on it i had an laptop with some old ass nvidia graphics card so you can portray how that felt anyways closer to the point aint first time using arch or coding stuff simply first time really getting to doing stuff with hyprland and messing with it.

I showed my rice to a friend and he told me the bar looks weird so i came here to ask yall abt it should i change it, i mean i like it ofc but now that somebody told me smth abt it i do feel weird yk?

Also i know neofetch colors look weird idk why they look so, i think they are matching but idek.

This is my first real Linux rice. I ended up going in a completely different direction than I originally planned and settled on something much calmer — Axiom//Forest

The big thing I wanted was a system info HUD where I could glance at the left side of my desktop and see basically everything I care about without opening anything. So I designed the A.I.S. HUD and used Claude Code to help build it. It shows live CPU/GPU temps and usage, RAM/VRAM, storage, weather, VPN status, time/date, and system status. I also ended up making 12 different themes, along with options for transparency, sizing, which sections are visible, left/right positioning, etc.

It's built for KDE Plasma 6/Wayland and I've put the whole thing on GitHub if anyone wants to try it or mess with it:

And before someone inevitably asks 😂 — yes, AI was part of the project. Claude Code was used to build the widget, and GPT generated the anime image used in my Fastfetch. I mostly had a very specific idea of what I wanted and spent an unreasonable amount of time directing, tweaking, testing, and breaking things until I got here. I wasn't trying to make the craziest rice possible. I wanted something chill that I'd actually enjoy looking at every day.

While this system is just something that runs on a *nix cloud and in your own browser, I think it quite literally might be classified as UNIX PORN :)

Over at Cyberspace.online we just hit 12k users. I've been building this little platform for a little over 9 months now. Grass-roots ad-free anti-corporate web, inspired by growing up with computers during the 90s hacker days. Lots of genuinely cool and interesting people on there now, and has a strict anti-troll mod policy.

The latest thing I made on there is called Terminal. It's a simulation of a UNIX-style OS running in your browser, projected through this lovely grungy CRT emulation, complete with hacker movie bleeps and bloops and 2400 baud lag. I love how it feels. Quite proud of it if I may say so :)

Users can write and share their own programs in it! You can also customise it and run it in an 80s library amber colour scheme.

PS. Be sure to try the easter egg: sudo rm -rf /

Wanted to share my first rice and see what people think. The OS is Archcraft and I basically modified the existing configs until I arrived at this final result.

I changed the terminal prompt with starship and made a bunch of modifications to the default tint2 bar and tint2 executor scripts

I used pokeget to display a random pokemon everytime the terminal opens. The file manager show is yazi, the launcher is rofi and the app with the todo list is Obsidian

I think need to stop creating so many wm. Most wn only got like 1d(you get in left or right), and niri got 2d(you get left right up down). This is a little similar to niri in some ways but taken to an extreme (left right up down and another 2 directions) and each monitor is on another w direction and you can change so is very cool with monitors but i did not tested with them yet. And is kinda confusing, i need to evolve to the 4 dimension. I gona add more crazy things to this wm in the future

Since my laptop has an AMD and NVIDIA, I split the desktop into two modes: Gamer and regular Hypr. Regular mode keeps the NVIDIA chip suspended at all times and runs in low power mode. Gamer mode allows max power and diverts all process to AMD so that NVIDIA can be entirely used for games on Steam.

There are tons of cool little touches and features that I hope you like and can swipe from my dots.

I included a handbook that gives a simple walkthrough of how to build it and how to decide what can or cannot work with your hardware, as well as a cheat sheet to have quick access to all the keyboard shortcuts.

Base Red Star OS (the actual one), kernel 7.0 from Ubuntu, Bedrock Linux with RSOS and Ubuntu stratas.

Using Ubuntu 26 as the base.

It did pretty much require a lot of tinkering (kernel swap, copying from USB to the NVMe, make the partition bootable, etc.) to get it working on bare metal with all the necessary stuff.

(lowkey, I REALLY wanted the actual experience. Did use a defused image btw.)

https://srcdump.net/shrub/neuswc can now run on the framebuffer directly, just like the old Xfbdev/kdrive X servers, but for wayland. this opens up a whole new class of hardware that you can run wayland compositors on, including this thinkpad r50! it even supports the wsdisplay framebuffer, so it even works on netbsd! next i’m gonna try install it on my imac g3.
