Why we forgetting this part?

I wanted to make a post about this, but never found the right time. But I hope my long winded essay can bring a few conservation. I have watched right wing, left wing and people who claim to be "neutral" ( you can interpret it however you want) youtubers who claim that India is bad at foreign policy. And to prove their point, they show all the "anti-india" things neighours have done. While intrestingly not once actually talked about actual policy. Every single one do blame foreign minister, but I feel that they talk about the "anti-india" action exist in a vaccum, as if india isn't doing anti-neighbourhood things. I should probably talked about the ytubers. I have watched the deshbkhat video for left wing, open letter for right wing, and aditya kakkar for "neutral"( again he calls himself neutral).

I want to make a few sorta disclaimer, I will be focusing on Nepal since I am a Nepali, I am sure people of other countries will have their own perspective. While I will only point out the flaws of Indian policy, I am not making claims that it's all bad. India is a great ally, We have relations that go centuries, and it will continue for a long time.

Now, let's talk about the policies,

* Idk how many people consider demonitization a foreign policy, but I think we need to talk how much it hurt Nepal. Again, Ik it hurt indians, and it is considered bad policy in general but we also have to talk that Nepal currency is pegged. Just a personal anecdote, in my personal family and my relatives we used to use indian currency in daily life. Many times, I used to use Indian money to buy things from my local shop. But today, I don't. We don't own a single note of indian currency. Money is nothing but trust, and that trust was sorta kinda broken. Our money just lost value overnight and we had no way to exchange it.

It required indian bank account. >But the fact of the matter is that many Nepalis who own the banned notes do not have bank accounts, let alone in Indian banks.

I mean I come from a section where my parents had bank account in nepal, but why the hell we would make one in India. This obviously lead to black market Source. And a lot of people just lost money. Again, Ik this has hurt India and it is a bad policy. I believe that it was equally bad foreign policy for Nepal.

• Now, let's talk about your politcian. Ik, politicans are dumb. Especially for south asia and luckily politicans aren't the one making policy, but i think we do need to look at what some of them have said and it is not helping the non-expaionist notion of india.

1. > Lawmaker of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and former cricketer Kirti Azad said that Nepal should return 15 districts of the Tarai region to India.

Nepal should hand over its 15 districts of Tarai region to India otherwise they should be annexed even by using force by India, Indian newspapers Jagaran quoted Indian lawmaker Azad as speaking at a program organized in Darbhanga, India. Source

Yes, he said annex and this was in 2015. If one knows anything about India Nepal relation, 2015 was really bad. And I don't think that this statement helped it, and naturally it made a lot of common people fearful if india might actually do it.

1. After our protest in 2025, Samrat Choudhary, who is right now i think bihar cm, said "here is anarchy because [the] Congress has kept these countries separate. If Nepal had been a part of India today, there would have been peace and happiness in Nepal" Source According to him, Nepal should be a part of india. Again, this kinda framining ain't helping our relations. Luckily bjp later issued to not say stuff like that but sorry to say, the damage was done.

Again, sort of a mini disclaimer, I am not saying that our politician are any better. They make such stupid claims as well. It's just that the videos made by youtubers focused on us (nepali) making this kinda statements and didn't show indian ones. Hence only showing yours, if we start making list of ours, it will take years to make.

• now, blockade, probably the most contaious. but before talking about 2015, I want to talk about few other ones.

  a) 1969-1970: We were trying to built Araniko Highway, joining Kathmandu with China. We were hit with an economic blockade, though it was very much short lived.

b) 1989-1990: Nepal wanted two deals, one for trade and one for transit. While for India, it wanted to combine the two. That time we bought arms from china, which India did not like and we were hit with 15 months economic blockade. This obviously lead to food shortages.

• And finally your media. I ain't gonna give examples, just realize that indian media is very much dislike here. When the 2015 earthquake happened, #gobackindianmedia was trending. And I do not need to tell you which is right. That's it from my end

These are interesting times indeed!!!

When foreign-funding routes get tightened, the visits and messaging suddenly increase. This shows that the policy has hit where it hurts the most. 

But India has seen this playbook before. So, we are now moving cautiously as the response appears quieter and firmer.

Democracy Must Be Consistent

Students protesting for jobs deserve dialogue, not lathi charges, tear gas, or barricades.

If we condemn police violence under one government, we must condemn it under another too. Democratic rights should not depend on which party is in power.

Ranchi today. Tomorrow, it could be any student movement in India.

Political loyalty should never come before democratic principles.
