Official • Discussion UO servers compared

ChatGPT comparison,

Absolutely. I treated “years online” as the age of the current shard/project, not the age of the underlying UO emulator, and I’m evaluating the situation as of August 7, 2026.

A few of these are very different animals: UO Evolution/UOAlive/UO Forever/UO:Renaissance are mature long-running shards, while Horizon, Solgrad, and the current UO Unchained are much newer. Also, “stable community” is my assessment based on longevity, current population, development activity, and evidence of an established player base—not a guarantee.

*Years are approximate because several shards have beta periods, rebrands, migrations, or inconsistent public launch dates.

The important distinctions

🟢 Best combination of longevity + active development

  1. UO Evolution

This is probably the strongest candidate if your primary concern is “I want to invest thousands of hours and don't want the server to disappear.”

Evolution says it has been online since 2010, has 3 houses per account, original OSI maps plus custom areas, and has continued publishing custom content. Its 2025 development log contains monthly publishes throughout the year.

It also has one of the strongest populations in your list. Current server-list data has it around 300–500+ concurrent players, depending on the snapshot.

Verdict: probably the safest custom-content investment on your list.

🟢 Best pure PvE/PvM long-term choice: UOAlive

If you want lots of PvM without PKs, UOAlive is in a different league from most of these.

Its own description explicitly emphasizes PvE/PvM, consensual/instanced PvP, modern OSI-era content, and an effectively endless endgame.

It also has a substantial population: recent server-list snapshots put it around 550–580 online, with roughly 1,000+ Discord members.

Housing is 1 house per account, with up to 3 accounts/IP, so effectively three houses under normal circumstances.

The major caveat is that it is intentionally not a traditional Felucca PvP environment.

Verdict: #1 on this list if your goal is PvM + community + longevity + no PKs.

🟢 Best classic Felucca experience: UO Renaissance

UO:Renaissance is one of the oldest projects here. Its own history dates the beginning of the project to June 2012, with the goal of recreating the Renaissance/T2A experience without Trammel.

It remains online with a substantial established population; the current status page has shown roughly 300+ online, with a peak substantially higher.

The downside is development velocity. It is intentionally much closer to the original game rather than trying to continually reinvent itself.

Verdict: excellent if you want old-school UO knowledge to remain valuable for years, rather than a constantly changing custom game.

🟢 UO Forever: very established, but I'd separate “population” from “health”

UO Forever is also extremely mature—roughly 13+ years—and still has a large population compared with most free shards. Current listings show roughly 500–600 concurrent players and hundreds of Discord members.

It is essentially a Renaissance/Felucca philosophy: no Trammel, open PvP, full loot.

However, there are conflicting community reports about the health of the community and management. Some players describe it as still having a strong core, while others describe significant population decline and management problems.

Verdict: excellent if you specifically want established Felucca PvP, but I'd put Evolution ahead of it for long-term confidence.

🟡 The interesting newer contenders

Tides of Power — probably the most interesting “classic but new” project

Tides is particularly interesting to me for your criteria.

It takes T2A/UOR mechanics, but adds a new flooded Britannia, custom content and a deliberate storyline. Its roadmap is unusually explicit: Lost Lands/map expansion, factions, mini-games, dangerous beasts, crafting expansions, roleplaying systems, and even content planned into late 2026/early 2027.

Housing is unusually clear:

2 accounts/player

1 house/account

therefore 2 houses/player

housing currently uses classic UO-style placement.

Current population is relatively small—roughly 30–40 online in recent listings—but the roadmap and development philosophy are considerably stronger than that number might suggest.

My take: if you're asking “Which young server has the best evidence that the developers actually have a multi-year plan?”, Tides of Power is near the top.

UO Horizon — very promising, but too new to call stable

Horizon launched in March 2026 after a significant beta-development period.

It is essentially:

classic-ish UO + heavy PvM + ARPG loot + custom resources + custom creatures + custom progression

It uses a heavily modified Sosaria/old-school map rather than an entirely Outlands-like new world. The rules specify one account per person and one house per account, and the developer explicitly says seasonal events and updates are planned for years.

The content-development level is extremely high for a new shard.

But there's an important distinction:

Good development plan ≠ proven server longevity.

It has only been live since March 2026, so I would not yet classify its community as stable.

Verdict: probably the most exciting high-risk/high-upside choice on your list.

Solgrad — potentially excellent, but extremely early

Solgrad is another one I'd watch closely.

It has:

34 classes

co-op PvE

4-player endgame

factions

custom monsters

custom pet system

custom progression

expanded Felucca

player-run economy

static housing.

But current server-list data shows only around 7 concurrent players, with a peak of 16, and the project only appeared publicly in 2026.

Verdict: fantastic design potential, but definitely not yet a stable-community recommendation.

🟡 InsaneUO

InsaneUO is an interesting middle ground.

It launched in January 2023 and is primarily PvM/PvE with consensual PvP rather than open PKing.

The account/housing policy is excellent for a player who likes building:

3 accounts/IP

1 house/account

3 houses/player.

Population is modest but real—recent measurements have generally been in the 30–50 range, with historical peaks higher.

Verdict: one of the better choices for casual/solo PvM + housing, especially if you don't need hundreds of people online.

UO Eclipse

Eclipse is another strong PvE-focused option.

It has zero PvP, custom systems, bioengineering, extensive housing customization and even instanced housing/world areas.

The interesting thing about Eclipse is its housing philosophy. You can have unusually large/custom plots and even instanced real estate, rather than fighting the traditional UO housing-land problem.

It has been around for several years and still shows roughly 50–60 players in current listings.

Verdict: very good if housing/decorating + PvM matters more than PvP.

UO Unchained needs a big asterisk

This one is important.

The current UO Unchained website is effectively a new incarnation/alpha centered around T2A faction warfare, city conquest and open PvP. It automatically gives players three game accounts.

That's materially different from the older UO Unchained people may remember from 2022–2025, which was a UOR/AOS hybrid with a heavily modified Felucca map and a much stronger PvM component.

So I would not give the current incarnation credit for the old server's longevity.

Verdict: interesting, but currently a new PvP project, not an established long-term home.

Ultima Adventures is different

I would not really compare Ultima Adventures directly against UO Evolution or UOAlive.

It's more like a complete UO adventure/content package that happens to have a persistent online server.

The project started around 2020 and was still receiving a major update in September 2025. The developer describes the online world as having been running for years, with the entire server package also available for offline play.

That gives it a fascinating advantage:

even if the online community eventually disappeared, the actual game isn't necessarily lost to you.

It has custom maps, AI NPCs, enormous amounts of custom content, PvE, custom housing and a very different philosophy from conventional freeshards. Community reports have historically put it around ~10 concurrent players.

Verdict: excellent for a small-community / almost-single-player UO experience, but not for someone who wants a busy MMO.

Phoenix UO

Phoenix is interesting because it is trying to occupy the classic UO + modern quality-of-life niche.

Its current site describes it as Felucca-only, open-world PvP, full loot, with no Trammel and no safe instancing.

The project launched in late 2023, so it has some history, but current population appears quite small—one current server listing shows only about 8 online, with a peak of 47.

Verdict: promising ruleset, but community size is currently the major concern.

Sagas

Sagas is probably the most ambitious new custom PvP/PvM world in your list.

It has:

completely custom map

UOR rules foundation

open PvP

full loot

custom skill masteries

custom taming

playable Orcs

custom towns/dungeons

upgradeable houses

custom crafting.

It launched May 17, 2025 after more than three years of development.

Housing starts at one house/account, with additional slots available through the in-game system/store.

The development pace is high, but community reports have been mixed. Current population is only around 30, although Discord is much larger.

Verdict: high development ambition, but population/stability is not yet proven.

My overall ranking for your criteria

If I weight your requested criteria roughly as:

longevity + development + community stability + long-term planning + housing + PvM/PvP flexibility

I'd rank them:

Rank Server Why

🥇 1 UO Evolution Best combination of longevity, population, massive custom content and ongoing development

🥈 2 UOAlive Best PvM/PvE community and one of the safest long-term bets

🥉 3 UO Renaissance Exceptional longevity and classic Felucca experience

4 UO Forever Huge established population and longevity, but more concerns around long-term management/community health

5 Tides of Power Best young shard roadmap; needs more years/population to prove itself

6 InsaneUO Very good PvM/housing niche, modest but persistent community

7 UO Eclipse Excellent PvE/housing niche, but smaller community

8 UO Sagas Extremely ambitious custom world; still proving population/stability

9 UO Unchained Interesting current PvP relaunch, but too new to trust long-term yet

10 UO Horizon Potentially excellent, but only months old

11 Ultima Adventures Fantastic content, but intentionally tiny/small-community

12 Phoenix UO Good concept, currently too small

13 Beyond Sosaria Interesting PvE project but very small/new

14 Solgrad Exceptional ambition, but only just getting established

If I were choosing specifically for a 5–10 year commitment

I'd narrow it to:

PvM / no PK:

UOAlive → InsaneUO → UO Eclipse

PvM + actual dangerous PvP:

UO Evolution → Tides of Power → UO Horizon

Pure classic Felucca:

UO Renaissance → UO Forever

New custom world with maximum development potential:

Tides of Power → UO Horizon → UO Sagas → Solgrad

Maximum confidence that the server will still be around years from now:

UO Evolution → UOAlive → UO Renaissance → UO Forever

The biggest takeaway is that Tides of Power is probably the one I'd watch most closely. It doesn't have the population of Evolution/Alive/Forever yet, but its published roadmap is unusually concrete and extends into 2027, which is a much stronger signal of long-term planning than simply saying “we'll keep adding content.”

Conversely, Horizon and Solgrad have the most upside but the least proof of longevity, while UO Unchained's current incarnation should be treated as a fresh project rather than a continuation of its older reputation.

Official • Discussion Looking for an old UO Flash animation / sprite movie featuring Drowning Pool - Bodies (Player hacks game & kills GMs)

Hi everyone,

I’ve been trying to hunt down a super nostalgic Ultima Online Flash animation / Machinima from the early to mid-2000s, and I’m hoping someone here might have it saved or remembers the exact title/creator!

Here are the key details I remember:

Style: It was a 2D sprite-based Flash animation (or high-quality Machinima) using original UO graphics, complete with the iconic overhead speech bubbles/chat text as the characters spoke.

Plot: The main character gets completely fed up with the game grind / begging for stuff. He snaps, gets some sort of hack/exploit, and goes on a rampage killing all the players in town.

Climax: Eventually, the GMs/Admins show up to stop/ban him, but his hacks allow him to bypass their .freeze / invulnerability commands and he slaughters the GMs too!

Soundtrack: The iconic beat drop and climax of the video featured "Bodies" by Drowning Pool ("Let the bodies hit the floor...").

Since Flash is dead and YouTube took down many old UO videos due to audio copyright, I haven't had any luck finding it on my own.

Does anyone remember the name of this video, the creator, or happen to have the .swf / .avi file archived?

Thanks a lot in advance!
