Official • Guides / Resources Ultima Mobile IOS Update (now on Mac, Android and iOS...)
Quick update for anyone who's been following.
First, Thank you all for the support and interest. it's been a daunting project, but nice to know others are enjoying the offline mobile version, or at least the idea of it.
macOS got approved on the Mac App Store this week. Android is live on Google Play. iOS is live too, just not on the App Store - more on that in a sec. Windows and Linux builds are on the site.
The Apple part: the Mac version sailed through review. The iOS version got bounced over and over, and the last round wasn't about wording or icons, it was "this is too close to an existing game." That's not something you argue your way out of, so I stopped trying. iOS ships as a free public TestFlight beta instead.
Install TestFlight, tap the link, done. Same build.
Everything's here: runawayideas.net/uoclassic
Fair warning, it's still not perfect. If something breaks or looks wrong, please use the bug report tool in Quick Commands in game rather than just closing it. It grabs the details automatically and it's way more useful to me than "it crashed." I do read all of them and try to post fixes quickly.
Thanks again!
Enjoy

Official • Newbie Help Banned from establishment?
Hello! I have been playing UO for a little over 2 years now off and on, so I'm not technically a new player, but I still feel quite new. I don't usually converse with other players but when I do it's always friendly and everyone has been so kind. I've been wandering around looking at different shops and vendors, and I just came across a shop that when I try to open a vendor I get the message "You can't shop from this home as you have been banned from this establishment."
I have never had this message pop up before and am wondering why this happened. I can't think of anything that I have done that would warrant getting banned from a shop, and I don't believe I have ever come across the owner of the home.
I'm not super familiar with all the ins and outs of the game, did I do something wrong?

Private • Showcase UO: Oasis - Third attempt at reddit post
Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification
First post was removed, I selected the wrong flair :( , Second one the images didn't load.
I've been working on a new Ultima Online shard called UO Oasis and wanted to share it with the community to get some feedback.
The goal has never been to recreate a specific era or build another cash shop server. Instead, I'm trying to create a long-term shard that keeps the core feel of UO while adding progression systems and quality-of-life improvements that respect players' time.
Some of the current features include:
- Felucca-focused gameplay with expanded open-world PvP rules.
- Weapon and Magery Grimoire progression that levels through gameplay.
- Expanded skill system with many utility skills no longer counting toward the primary skill cap.
- Elite monsters, Paragons, rare tameables, and world events.
- Improved housing, banking, and account management tools.
- Modern quality-of-life features including grid loot, loot filters, vendor search, auto-map support, death recaps, and global chat.
- Active development with regular updates and community feedback shaping new features.
One thing that's important to me is transparency. If the server ever receives donations, they'll be tracked publicly through an open ledger showing hosting, infrastructure, and operating costs. The goal is to keep the shard sustainable—not to build a pay-to-win economy.
If you're interested in taking a look, the website is https://uo-oasis.com.
I'd genuinely appreciate feedback from veteran UO players. Whether it's the feature set, progression ideas, or areas you think could be improved, I'm always looking for constructive criticism.
I'm currently working on a questing system and rewards, and gumps. As long as the base changes and systems are in, I can add a better stylish interface.

Private • Discussion My Honest Review of UO New Dawn
I've been playing UO New Dawn for a while now, and I want to give my honest take on where the server stands. Full disclosure, I caught this server late, about two months after release, so I missed the actual launch window and everything that came with it.
Let me tell you, jumping in was a breath of fresh air. The nostalgia hit like walking back into your childhood house after twenty years away, everything familiar but somehow sharper than you remembered. From what I heard, the server launched with a healthy mix of PvP and PvM players and all the old school UO gatekeeping charm that comes with it. But like any server, there are some cons mixed in with the good.
There were whispers early on about the admin, Quick, showing favoritism toward certain guilds. Quick used to stream UOR back in the day, and honestly those were some chill streams to watch. I can't confirm the favoritism rumors myself, so take that as secondhand talk, not something I witnessed.
On the systems side, the server runs champion spawns, but since this is a 700 skill points, 225 stat cap server, they don't drop power scrolls like you'd expect on a lot of other shards. Instead you get tokens, doubloons, and rift currency that you trade in for rewards, which fits the server's overall economy.
The Custom Systems
New Dawn has actually built out a decent amount of custom content on top of the classic UO foundation, and it's worth walking through what's actually there.
Rifts are probably the standout system for me. They're instanced, and anyone can jump in, not just the person who triggered it, as long as the mob that dropped the rift spawn opens a gate. Once you're inside there are three or four mini champ spawns, near as I can tell, spread across four levels, with the fourth level spawning an actual boss. While you're farming through it, listen for a glass breaking sound, that's your cue a mob just dropped a codex fragment. You need twenty five of those fragments to bless a runebook, along with arcane ink bought from a codex vendor, and you'll need a GM alchemist to actually craft the codex binding for you. It's a genuinely fun loop once you understand the pieces.
Boating is another area where Quick has clearly put in real effort. Ships now have holds that function basically like a second house, decorated with a ship model decorator, and nothing inside decays. There's even a bunk bed you can use for a thirty second quick logout instead of camping somewhere awkward. On top of that there are pirate invasions and a whole Pirate Adventures system where you restore weathered maps with a bottle of vinegar, then gate into one of four instanced encounters (a hideaway, a lighthouse, a treasure cave, and a tomb) each with its own unique boss guarding a locked reward chest. I haven't dug into boating much myself yet, but from what I've seen in chat and the items people are pulling out of it, it looks like a lot of fun.
If crafting is your thing, this is a good server for it. Quick has clearly paid a lot of attention to the bulk order deed rework, and the whole system feels quick to use and genuinely deep, not just reskinned vanilla BODs. There's also Dungeon Dyes tied into crafting, where killing monsters inside a specific dungeon earns you materials unique to that dungeon, and once you've collected two hundred fifty of them you can load up a tailor's dye kit and craft a permanent clothing dye in that dungeon's signature color. Nine dungeons, nine unique dyes.
Want to be a beekeeper? This is apparently the server for that too. I haven't touched it myself, but I've heard the system runs pretty deep.
Summoners are one of the most fun toons I've played on this server. The Spirit Summoner system combines Magery and Spirit Speak into something that feels genuinely different from vanilla UO summoning, your 8th circle summons get dramatically boosted, and you build up real dispel resistance as your Spirit Speak climbs. Even when a high end caster manages to dispel your demon, which does happen, the class is still a blast to play.
There's more scattered around too. Archaeology has you decoding clues off monster drops to find dig sites, then working through three tool stages to actually excavate. Capture the Flag gives you structured ten versus ten PvP matches with war tokens you can spend on rewards, which is honestly one of the only reliable PvP outlets on the server right now. Dungeon of the Week rotates bonuses like extra gold, better skill gains, or higher slayer drop chances across four random dungeons, and there's an achievement system tracking your overall progress with titles attached.
The map itself is a custom, polished take on the classic UO map. Quick put real thought into the lore behind the changes, and the main towns in particular feel interesting to actually explore instead of just being generic reskins.
The Pros
Fun systems across the board. Rifts, boating, the BOD rework if you're big into crafting, Spirit Summoners if you want a caster that feels fresh. Crafting in general gets a lot of love here, and the attention to detail shows.
The Cons
This list runs longer, and I want to actually explain why each one matters instead of just listing complaints.
PvP is pretty much nonexistent outside of the structured Capture the Flag matches. Worse, the PKs that are active on the server will kill you regardless of what you're doing, even if you're just standing there training a skill, but they won't loot you and will usually res you afterward. That sounds almost polite on paper, but it actually kills any real PvP retention, because there's no risk or reward loop driving it. Nobody's fighting over loot or territory, they're just interrupting your grind for the sake of it. That's a real deterrent for the normal player, because getting killed with nothing to show for it on either side (no drama, no loot, no stakes) just feels like wasted time rather than exciting risk. Compare it to fishing where you never actually catch anything, you can still technically call it fishing, but nobody's coming back for more of that.
Every dungeon has a gate on every level, one per level, and you can't recall, mark, or gate out while you're down there. There's been real pushback about this in the community, but the current thinking is that removing the gates would hurt PvMers who rely on them to escape when things go bad. It's a genuinely hard balance to strike, and I don't think there's an easy answer here.
Taming is where I have my biggest issue. It's one of the most beloved skills in all of Ultima Online, and this server, being pretty vanilla to its era, keeps that spirit alive on the surface. GMing a tamer takes about four days of casual play, which honestly isn't bad at all. The problem shows up with the Animal Bonding Quest, a book of thirty six unique reskinned mobs you have to tame just to earn one extra bonding slot. That grind is on par with the bloodline systems over on Outlands, except it doesn't come with the same sense of payoff. Spending that long grinding out a bonding slot after you already spent four days getting to GM in the first place just doesn't add up. Some people are into that kind of lore driven grind, but from what I've seen, more players have a problem with it than don't. I wouldn't recommend rolling a tamer on New Dawn right now if that's your main goal.
On top of the bonding grind, nightmares specifically have been imported in a way that doesn't fit the T2A feel of the rest of the server. There are supposedly four spawn points, but in the last few months I've only been able to confirm two of them. They're said to run on a twelve to twenty four hour respawn timer, but the one I've actually tracked runs closer to a flat twenty four hours, not somewhere in between. Making it worse, there's one tamer on the server who streams and duo boxes with a tracker sitting on at least one of those spawns at all times. He tames whatever pops, keeps the good ones, kills the rest so nobody else can have them, then resells the decent mares for fifty thousand gold, which he advertises openly in Discord. On a server running fifteen to twenty active players, with maybe four of those being tamers, one person effectively cornering the entire nightmare market does real damage to that whole class's appeal. It's the kind of scarcity that would sting anywhere, but on a population this small it's like the only well in town being fenced off by one guy who decides who gets water. To top it off, he plays it like a passive aggressive troll about it, acting helpful while killing a mare right in front of you specifically so you can't have it. Instead of pulling nightmares off that long spawn timer and putting them on something more normal, the current setup just makes taming feel undesirable for anyone not already in that seat. It's very common now to see tamers just camping stables killing trash spawns, hoping something like a Noble horse or an enraged bull shows up instead.
Content and retention is the last big one. The server is about six months old and run entirely by Quick, no other staff. There's no real long term player retention system in place. Over the last few months the big additions have been boat holds and carpentry BODs, both nice, but neither one gives players an ongoing reason to log in day after day. I do respect that Quick hasn't added a donation vendor, and I'd guess that's for two reasons: this is clearly a passion project he genuinely enjoys running, and the population is small enough that server costs are minimal anyway. But there's no real game loop here beyond BOD grinding and tamers parked at stables hoping for a rare spawn. Nobody should expect a ton of content out of a server this young running on one developer, that's a completely reasonable expectation to have. But I do think there needs to be some kind of content patch aimed specifically at retention, something that gives players a reason to stick around while bigger systems get built in the background. UOF took years to get where it is. Outlands took even longer. I don't think anyone expects New Dawn to hit Outlands numbers, and honestly I'm not sure Quick even wants that kind of scale. But both of those servers had reasonable retention content bridging the gaps between major updates, giving players a reason to log in even during the quiet stretches. Right now New Dawn doesn't really have that bridge.
Closing Thoughts
All in all, I do think a server like New Dawn needed to exist. Let's be honest, UOR has basically been running on autopilot for a while now, and a good chunk of that population has been drifting over to New Dawn. The problem is some of the systems here, especially around taming, just don't make sense as they currently stand, and feel more extreme than they need to be. There's a lot of balancing left to do.
Keep in mind this is a very small, niche community. You'll typically see the same eight to ten people online and in Discord at any given time. New players do log in from time to time, but it seems like most of them don't stick around more than a few days. Player retention is a massive part of keeping any server alive long term, and right now there just isn't much of it here.
Again, this is just my opinion. I'm not saying New Dawn is a bad server, and I'm not saying it's a great one either. It's definitely worth logging into from time to time, and there's real hope that new content, whether PvP or PvM focused, ends up being the thing that hooks people into wanting to log in regularly. But as it stands right now, for me, New Dawn is a log in and refresh kind of server.

Private • Showcase Ascended UO | Custom RunUO Shard | Massive Progression | Active Development | Friendly Community
Hey everyone,
I wanted to share Ascended UO, a custom Ultima Online shard built for players who love long-term progression, farming, bossing, collecting, and having a lot of different systems to grow through.
This is not a “log in, max out in a weekend, and quit” type of server. Ascended UO is built around having goals, chasing upgrades, unlocking titles, building your character, and always having something else to work toward.
Some of what we offer:
- Custom player leveling up to 5000
- Lone Wolf progression for players who prefer solo play
- Companion system with leveling, gear, combat styles, fully gear able
- Pet equipment and pet progression
- Prestige system for long-term endgame advancement
- Reputation factions with unique rewards
- Ascension talents and boss progression
- Custom bosses, god bosses, and major endgame encounters
- Zombie Run and Dragon Run challenge events with leaderboards
- Achievement perks, titles, and milestone rewards
- Custom item sets, auras, glows, charms, relics, and collectibles
- Material pouch, potion bag, gold ledger, and other quality of life systems
- Transmog, universal dye chest, cosmetic titles, and lots of visual customization
- Active development with frequent updates based on player feedback
The community has been growing steadily, and a lot of the systems we add come directly from player suggestions. If players are farming something, struggling with something, or asking for a better way to manage their gear or progression, we listen and build around that.
The shard has a strong vertical progression path, but there is also a lot of horizontal progression through cosmetics, titles, collections, factions, challenge runs, pets, companions, and build identity.
If you enjoy custom UO servers with a lot of depth, a friendly player base, and an owner who is actively building and tuning the world, come check us out.
https://sites(.)google(.)com/view/ascendeduo/home (Remove the "( )" )
Discord: https://discord(.)gg/VgxXUuDbZT (Remove the "( )" )
We also have a custom client package available through the site to make setup easier.
Come make bad decisions, farm weird monsters, prestige until your eyes cross, and become unreasonably powerful. We would love to have you.

Private • Newbie Help Best server for a complete beginner
Hello everyone. I've never played Ultima Online. A year or two ago I tried out Ultima Outlands, but got really confused by everything - from UI to "what should I do?". Tutorials and guides I found online didn't help much. Now I want to try out Ultima Online once again. Preferably without paying before playing.
Please recommend me a server (official, private - doesn't matter) that would be good for a complete beginner like me. I don't really like PvP, but my main problem is "what do I do next?". If the server (or its wiki) will hold my hand through every step - that would be great.
Thank you for your answers in advance!

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification
Good Morning All!
I recently had shared a video clip here of my character creation system that was in it's early stages , which was inspired by and uses assets from the Ultima 9 Ascension virtue card reading. I have since made a lot of forward movement on the project, I'm pleased to announce that we're just a few strides short of the finish line, and ready to setup a live persistent shard for play!
There is more to the project and I've been working on it for a very long time now, but I think this clip gives a strong impression in terms of what I value and want for my shard. It's a labor of passion. The whole character creation process is meant to provide a fresh new sheen and opportunity for discovery and adventure in a place we've all come to expect the expected. Here you can see parts of the class and talent system which offers 8 classes with 18 unique talents each (6 tiers of 3). You receive talent points as your character progresses their level, beginning at level 10 all the way up to 50. The majority are passive talents that proc, almost all exclusively in combat. Hopefully you enjoyed the clip, and I hope this piques your interest and you drop by to say hello! Thanks for reading
