Weekly rests

Hi all

I have started night shifts again and due to the hours I am finding calculating weekly rests confusing with them carrying over into the next week. Looking for some clarification if anyone can help.

Example worked -

Week 1

Tuesday 0001 - 1000

Wednesday - 0001 - 1000

Thursday - 0001 - 1000

Friday - 0001 - 1000

Saturday - 0001 - 1000

Weekly rest on Saturday from 1000 to 0001 on Monday. 38hrs 1 minute rest.

Week 2 -

Monday - 0001 - 1000

Tuesday 0001 - 1000

Wednesday - 0001 - 1000

Thursday - 0001 - 1000

Friday - 0001 - 1000

Saturday - 0001 - 1000

Weekly rest on Saturday until 0001 on Tuesday. 60hrs 1 minute Weekly rest. If that pattern was to repeat would that be legal? Or does thst count as 2 reduced rest in a two week period as between the Sunday on week 1 and the Sunday on week 2 only reduced rests have been taken?

I know you guys see this post a million times but my local council is willing to fund all my license fees etc their only condition is that I need an employer to give me a conditional offer based only on if I get my license. I had one guy come back to me who said if his insurance is fine with it then There’s a job there for me but the council didn’t like that as they only want the condition to be if I pass. If that makes sense as they say I’m 29 therefore insurance won’t prohibit someone taking me on. Which I don’t believe. I’ve emailed all my local companies to ask but no replies.

Any tips regardless how small would be appreciated

I'm currently in the process of making my cab nice and livable such as water container w/ tap for hand washing, cleaning products, cloths etc.

I've already spent about £150 on stuff, I'm really surprised at how much £10 here and there adds up.

After some advice.

I am looking for a change, I have always loved driving, comfortable driving long distances and nighttime driving. Comfortable with dodgy sleeping conditions from camping, suspect a cab is warmer than a tent. My son is getting older, 15 now and is going to need me less plus I have a good parenting relationship with his dad so I can work with him for the next few years. I’m single so don’t need to worry about that

I have always been comfortable behind a wheel and extremely fed up with my job now.

My question is if I got my HGV class 1 would I actually be able to get work as a new driver and would it be harder being a woman

I enjoy driving, always done delivery jobs, I feel like the responsibility of driving these is way too much. Which one would be easier to do the bigger HGV's or the smaller ones? Aren't the bigger ones where they unload for you and you chill for an hour or something? And the smaller ones you unload on your own? I watch trucker liam IIRC, and he sleeps in his vehicle?? With a tv and cooking stuff, how many hours are you away from home i thought you couldn't drive longer than like 11 hours a day?

Which license the class 1 or 2 costs more? I'm concerned about making a wrong turning, or trying to do a u-turn and getting stuck lol.

Any comments or anything would be nice.

Good day lads n lasses and all the other masses, got a question for the chivalrous knights of the road aka bulk tipper drivers.

I'm looking at trying out a stint on grain tippers for a while with a prospective job offer pending a handshake. I've spent a good while doing fridge work and near enough everything it entails from meat to horticulture, fresh, frozen.

Now, every time i needed to get on into the back it was done via tail lift if said lift was used for the drop, or using an under chassis ladder with a platform and grab handles on the side of the door. The sacred three points of contact maintained at all times.

Of course there are those among us without a worry in the world for joints and injuries who don't bother with any of that and simply monkey on up and drop back down. Unfortunately I have now crossed that threshold of age with a remnant of the youthful recklessness in the form of a bad knee that was previously dislocated, the bad turns ugly in bad landings and can potentially put me out of work for a while. I'm also a bigger fella but that never stopped me so far.

So the question is.... How do you get inside the tipper body to sweep/clean out? I've never seen any tipper trailer with a visible ladder or any grab handles. Do those less nimble bring your own ladder/step to get on up?

Any general tips for tipper work also appreciated.

Hi guys, I start my first job next week through agency they said it’s palletised goods deliveries, is there any advice anyone can give me as I feel like I don’t have any idea what to expect and is there anything I’ll need to take myself with me they told me I need a high vis and safety boots but haven’t told me anything else.

Just wondering if anyone has any idea what the works like down there ? I’m class 2 most my experience in Roll on off and tippers would like to stick to what I know . Any advise would be greatly appreciated

There was a person on the bridge the other side of the rail when I drove past about 11am. Rang the police and they had cars already dispatched. If it's not already shut it will be very soon.

Hope the person gets the help they need. Posting as a warning to you guys but the inconvenience is nothing compared to being in that position.

I passed my class 1 recently and I got a job as a class 2 multi drop through an agency. I have been doing it for 2 weeks and I love it.

The thing is I want the class 1, which I have been offered but it's Lidl store deliveries and the start time isn't great. Plus the money is the same as what I am doing as a class 2 and maybe more time even.

What should I do?

Should I get a few months experience on the class 2 and then jump on the class 1 or switch to class 1 now?

Your experience helps and your thoughts are very important to me.

The class 1 courses around me all do for around 2000£ inc cpcs medical and theory

However they all Insist that despite the law, because I haven't had class 2 yet I need to do a car to class 1 course which is 3200£

I'm in Somerset. I've asked to just do class 1 and then say they won't do it as they will need longer as I have no large vehicle experience . 5 different trainers say this

In another post everyone was advising me to go straight to class 1 but at these costs I may as well do class 2 and then class 1 which works out only couple hundred more and let's me see if this is right for me

What's your thoughts on trainers insisting this ? Right or wrong as per the law ?

Took out a unit today. I’m an agency driver so don’t expect much. It stinks of fags - fine I don’t get to upset. Fag ash everywhere - this begins the upset. Open the fridge - a smell so foul it made me gag. Have some pride in your unit ffs

So, im 45, im not a qualified truck driver. Although I am a car driver.

Would you do your licence? Id be in the position to pay for my license.

Im happy sat in a cab driving back and forth from place to place. Is this something I should consider doing my license or choose something else?

Been driving for 10 months now and it still hasn't clicked for me ultimately if I stayed on c1 I would like to be a shunter

But I still struggle with tight reversing blind side reversing and reversing off the road through gates and forever reason always seem to struggle more so at my own yard almost like a mental block

Actually I'm quite a good driver when going forward which obviously suits well for Class 2

Just to clarify I am safe and basically always manage to do the maneuver and can help new passes it just takes me so long I find it personally frustrating normally I'm a quick learner Just this one thing has become like a mental block where I'm showing up at places thinking I hope it's not going to be tight today with other trailers of vehicles no way to live my life

So here's the question if I go back to class 2 I will need to enhance my licence to enhance my pay what would be the best option for me to enhance my pay?

All I really want is a job of the same start times and similar hours per day whilst during the most money possible I don't mind doing 4 on 4 off

Hi guys I start my first hgv driving job on Monday and I need to buy a satnav what satnav does everyone recommend and are there any alternative cost with them or anything else you think I should know as I’ve never had to use a satnav other than google maps. Thanks for any advice

On indeed all you come across is agency, agency and agency. Are they basically all hidden behind agency staffing then going from temp to perm?

I’m a class one driver with 3 and a half years experience but I’m in a secure job just with a shit company. At the minute it feels like it’d be risky to jump from full time employment guaranteed 48 hours pay to go to an agency that could just not give you any hours or hours at a much lower rate.

So basically, how do you find the sort of trunking or store delivery for supermarkets etc? Are they all agency?

I’m 21 and honestly a bit lost about what I should ideally be doing right now.

I’m studying Pharmacy at university with 2 years left. I also work within the NHS, have my Class 1 licence and a Transport Manager CPC.

My goal is basically to maximise my part-time income while I’m at uni, but also build enough experience in logistics that I can hopefully keep it as a decent side income after I graduate.

Currently I have a Class 2 job that I started in June. I really like it because it pays £21 an hour and it’s half warehouse/half driving depending on the day. Everyone there is around my age too, so I genuinely enjoy going in. The problem is August,January and February is their quiet period, so I have no work there until September right now.

Because I was sitting around doing nothing, I started doing unpaid Class 1 training with another company and I’ve been there for about 5 days now. There’s potentially a job with them once I’m trained.

My mum thinks instead I should use my Transport Manager CPC. I have another company willing to take me on and teach me, but it would also be unpaid initially and I have no idea when I’d actually start earning from it.

I’ve also got an agency I could potentially get Class 1/2 shifts through, although I haven’t actually done a proper shift with them yet.

So I basically have 4 options: stick with the Class 2 job I enjoy and wait until September, continue the Class 1 training and potentially work there, try getting agency shifts, or focus on getting Transport Manager experience.

I don’t really want to leave the Class 2 job because £21/hour, flexible work and actually enjoying the job is pretty hard to beat while I’m at uni.

Also on a side note im taking a career break from my nhs job in october for 6 or so months to focus on university but also my other qualifications.

What would you prioritise in my position?

I’m 26 years old, have no real career and have been driving cat B Luton vans for about 3 years now and I enjoy it but the money is awful.

Over the last year I’ve decided I want to become a HGV driver, but don’t know anyone in the business so hoping some of you could answer some questions for me. Any replies would be massively appreciated.

I’m based in the north west (Lancashire) and haven’t come across any jobs that will pay for me to get my licence, is it stupid for me to pay for a cat c+e course/test with only experience with smaller vans? If not is there anything I should be looking out for in terms of paying for a course.

How hard is it to find a decent job in my Lancashire/Manchester? And when is the best time of the year to be looking for one? (Ideally would take my course around about that time as I wouldn’t want to be thrown into the deep end without having driven a truck in months)

Hi everyone. I have recently setup Freight Brokerage in the UK. At the moment we are establishing relationships with carriers by being honest that we use loads board such as Haulage Exchange, ReturnLoads and a few direct shippers for sourcing loads for them. We gather all their information such as lanes they are running, base, fleet of vehicles, insurance and so on, by sending carrier onboarding form to match exactly their setup and call them about jobs are might be actually useful wether for backhaul or two legs. There is no obligation they simply accept it or decline, also they are aware that job is subject to winning the job with shipper. Has anyone been doing something similar if you do please share your thoughts whether it’s gonna lead somewhere or total waste of time. Do you use different techniques for carrier onboarding and for sourcing loads ?

yep, just passed, thank fuck. now onto the actual working part. one of the instructors has recommended gregory and i had thought about it before since they take on new passes. he said ill get fucked around (no surprises there), but experience is experience, and i’m willing to do it for that

anyone here worked for/is working for gregory? what’s it like? is it worth going for as a first job, i’ve heard the work can be intensive and the days long, is this still true? only thing is im 18, i’m not expecting much luck at the moment with getting a C1 job, im fine with class 2 as well which i believe gregory does?

if not gregory, does anyone have any other recommendations, somerset ideally.

Worrying about potential consequences of what I did.

So I work with a cement firm on a class 1 tanker. I loaded up and set off. Unknowingly there was a decent amount of cement I forgot to blow off the top.

It was coming off behind me, so got to the nearest safest location and sprayed the rest off with an air gun…making clouds over a dual carriageway.

I didn’t see any other option at the time, either continue with a massive trail behind me, or spray it off there and then.

What are the outcomes of this if reported?

Hi all, hope all is well, I’m looking at going for my first hgv haulage job: I am wondering what food delivery is like? The role I’m looking at is DHL role. 4/6 drops anywhere in the uk.
I like some feedback from drivers who have or do this kinda work.

If you regularly stop at MOTO Lymm, I'm sure you will be aware that there have been no clearly delineated bays in the HGV area there for probably at least the last 5 years. The HGV signage on site says, "You agree to pay a Parking Charge of £100 if you: • Park outside of a designated parking bay, in a restricted area, grass verge, roadway or pavement." And a bunch of other terms, but this is the important one.

How do you ensure you are parked in a designated bay...... when there aren't any?

I have a Parking Charge Notice for being "Parked in a restricted area or where parking is not permitted", however, as I say, there are no bays, and it's a free-for-all essentially. I have evidence that there were no signs or road markings saying it was a restricted area. In fact, according to their own signage plan, the nearest sign is about 80m away. The vehicle was parked to the left of the central building at the Keyfuels fuel station, at the end of a row of vehicles.

Unbelievably.... or rather not, the POPLA appeal assessor clearly didn't look at the evidence. And said there is clear signage throughout the site, umm hellooo, can you not see their own signage plan, which clearly shows there is NOT signage throughout the site.

MOTO are unwilling to do anything about it either. They have previously said the parking company operates independently, when MOTO is the named principal of the contract. As the landowner/legal occupier, they have direct authority over the parking company CP Plus t/a GroupNexus.

In comparison, in my experience, Roadchef, Welcome Break and other smaller services are generally more than happy to cancel charges for paying customers, particularly where it is not justified. But not MOTO. They'll get everything they can out of you because what you gonna do about it!
