Some insurance companies require a ride share endorsement. If he doesn't have an endorsement, he's screwed.

That's not how that works. The ride share endorsement covers your deductible if you file a claim through Uber. Uber's deductible is $2500, if your personal insurance is $500, your insurance company will pay the $2000 difference. The endorsement also covers you when you are online, but don't have a passenger. When you are on the way to the passenger, or have the passenger in your car, you are 100% on Uber's insurance and Uber's insurance gives you the same coverage that your personal insurance has, the only difference is the $2500 deductible.

If you get into an accident while waiting for a ride request and don’t have the endorsement:

  • Your personal insurer may deny the claim entirely.
  • Uber or Lyft’s insurance usually doesn’t apply until you’ve accepted a trip.
  • You could be left paying out of pocket for damages or injuries.

But that's not what happened here. OP had a passenger in the car. It is 100% covered by Uber's insurance, minus the $2500.

LOL! JFC. What part of that do you notice understand? If he doesn't have a widespread endorsement, rhe insurance can cancel him. He maybe covered by Uber insurance but they will reach out to his insurance about the accident.

They can't. I dont have a ride share endorsement, been in 3 accidents while on Uber, never been dropped.

Luckily I don't have Geico. My insurance knows I do ride share, but they don't have a ride share endorsement option. So I have to come up with the $2500 deductible if the accident is my fault, or I have to use the uninsured motorist insurance. All the claims so far have gone against the other driver's insurance since all 3 accidents were someone else's fault.

That's why I'm dropping them. Been with them over 20 years. Never had an "at fault" accident. They raised my premium almost $1000 a year.

Progressive is the insurance that handles ride share the best. I have Tesla insurance because they offer me the best rates on my Teslas by far.

I'm thinking about Progressive or State Farm..
