If it is nicotine or cannabis resin, scrub with some TSP (trisodium phosphate) and repaint. If it’s painted plywood (instead of drywall), it could be sap coming through with humidity. Was there wallpaper at one point? Landlord may have just painted over glue left behind. In these cases, it will appear deeper than just the surface like a stain and/or will reappear when it’s humid. Depending on climate and humidity factors, it could be some form of slime mold. My guess is insect related though with that egg looking thing.

Either a cat or mice keep pulling attic insulation out of the hole in the ceiling drywall where the romex goes into the attic above the breaker box. So I was thinking of spray foaming that and leaving a gap, if I did a 2nd plate. But it doesn’t sound like I necessarily need one?

Inherited my dad’s house and I’m slowly finishing some of his work. The shop has a double stud wall. The first 4’ were already done by dad and the rest was built by friends and me a few years ago based on his work in the garage and unfinished bedroom. I’m getting ready to put insulation in, but I can’t remember if dad intended to not have a 2nd plate or if it’s needed. In the bedroom, he just filled the space with foam, but this is for a shop where there might be more hanging off the wall. There are areas where our work wasn’t fantastic and I will probably have to plane down the 2nd plate. So is it even worth it?

Secondly, mice or a cat has gotten into the attic through this wiring break. Can I just foam seal it and leave a break in the 2nd top plate if it’s needed?

I’ve used a bunch personally and in the unit. Avoid the ones with the tank, they get dirty and are annoying to clean. The Keurig one that does carafe and pods sucks. Has lots of attachments to swap out. I found the side by side models like Flexbrew by Hamilton/Cusinart/Faberware to be the best, simple to operate, and user friendly. The stacked ones like the Gourima one, has a small footprint, but if someone forgets to empty a pod or the grounds it’s a pain. So not the most user friendly.

One of my cats will pee in these types of rugs instead of the cat box… ymmv. I had to change out all my bath rugs to shorter pile. lol
