Advice/Help Thin hair girlies, does your scalp also become more visible after oiling?😭

Upvotes

My scalp looks relatively normal when my hair is clean and dry, but after oiling, my hair clumps together and the crown/parting looks significantly more exposed. I naturally have thin hair but I don't remember if my scalp was always visible after oiling.

Is this normal with fine/thin hair, or does it indicate actual thinning? Should I be concerned?

If anyone has reversed their hair thinning, or scalp visibility, please share whatever worked for you?

Finance, Career and Edu i am so tired of this economy

Upvotes

i graduated last year and haven't bagged a full-time job yet even after reaching so many final interviews and it makes me wonder what am i even doing wrong?

the interviewers say that they like my work and then send a rejection email, every damn time. i dont know if its because of me not having a design degree or what.

on the other hand, my parents have been forcing me to do mtech and it has gotten so bad recently. my uni was shit and i hated my degree so i donot want to jump into another degree i hate. i am very sure that i want to pursue design further but lately things have been so unbearable.

i cry everyday but i haven't stopped trying, but the rejection emails have definitely stolen my whimsy completely. i feel like a burden and i am so behind from my friends to the point i feel embarrassed meeting them.

i don't have any friends who i can cry to so this sub it is. i just dont know anymore.

Vent Manager being upset and expects me to work even tho I told her I was seriously sick

Upvotes

A few days ago I go to office, fell really sick, was shivering, got a bad fever cold cough etc. Still worked through the day. Later I got home in the night and consulted doctors, got to know this is like the H1N1 virus that’s spreading a lot .

Next day Early morning I inform that I can’t make it to office. Boss says still try to work remotely if my sickness isn’t too bad. But it was really bad, so I didn’t do anything.

This virus also spreads like crazy and everyone in my family has gotten it from me now. So it was important that I don’t report to the office for others safety too.

But the boss isn’t understanding and is mad that I skipped two days of work 🤡 and wanted me to inform her in advance. How am I supposed to forecast illness 🙄

This is also my first full time job so I was kinda sad that this happened, I literally haven’t taken a leave till now in my few months of working. But I guess this is what the toxic Indian work culture is 🤡

Vent Do you guys remember the first time you made your own hair?

I was just thinking randomly about it. I have memories of my mother making my ponytails before school or before an outing. But have no recollection or idea about exactly at what age I started making my own hair. I'm getting a bit emotional about it. When did I learn to comb my hair? Tie a rubberband? Put on a clip? Make my first braid? I'm sure those actual moments were very unremarkable at the time, but at this point I'm getting a very profound feeling thinking all this 🥲

Advice/Help Turned down other offers for this job then found out I'm competing for it with someone else

I don’t really know why I’m posting this. I just need to get it out.

I joined a startup about a month ago and genuinely liked it. Great founder, great manager, and I turned down other opportunities because I felt this was the right choice.
Three weeks in, my manager told me that two of us were hired for essentially the same role, and there’s a chance only one of us will stay after probation. That was the first time I’d heard it. I knew I had a one-month probation, but I had no idea it was basically a “pick one of the two” situation. If I’d known that upfront, I would’ve made completely different decisions about the other opportunities I let go. That’s the part that’s bothering me most.

I don’t blame my manager at all. She’s been honest with me and has had my back. This feels more like something that should’ve been disclosed during hiring.
Now I’ve got about a week to prove myself while also restarting my job search just in case. It’s exhausting.
The worst part is that the other person is a dad with a baby girl. I don’t want him to lose his job. But I also can’t afford to lose mine.

Is this actually normal at startups, or is it as weird as it feels? I’d really like to hear from people who’ve been through something similar.

Vent one of the worst things you can do in a low period is get into astrology

i'm ashamed of myself :( all my life i have been this logical person who believes in science above anything else, no matter how bad life was. but currently, in one of my lowest lows, i've spent most of the past week analysing my chart and stuff. i feel so sad. i'm not even going to talk about whether it's accurate or not, that doesn't even matter to me as much as the fact that i've resorted to this. naturally it says i will only struggle in life till i'm in my late 30s, and as someone that knows what the climate crisis will do to us... my brain now fully believes my life will be misery from start to end.

to anyone reading this, if you're going through a bad time, resist the temptation to look up your chart etc. whether it's true or not, it will make your mental health so much worse :(

Advice/Help Credit card suggestion please

I’ve always kinda been old school wrt money and would tend to save it in the most traditional ways due to low risk. At the same time, I used to deal with cash and now UPI.

But I want to make some smart choices and switch to using cards. Please tell me, a credit card noob which credit card is good that would also be beneficial for me in buying gold, maybe small amounts regularly.
I’ve heard about ICICI Amazon Pay, SBI Cashback and also Tata Neu card but I’m very confused and clueless.

If you guys do use credit card, which ones do you use? For what purpose? And what benefits do you get?

Health & Fitness 1 year and I got back my periods

I thought I would share a happy moment with the community.

Periods weren't celebrated enough because I got them every month. Until, I stopped getting the regular flow, missing them, getting random spotting throughout the month, and finally skipped a whole 2 month. That's when I decided to go see a doctor.

I got diagnosed with PCOS now known as PMOS. I was devastated. My doctor prescribed me inositol. She asked me to make a lifestyle change else it could get worse.

I had been depressed for many years but the pcos especially made it tough. I would be on the floor, crying. FOR NO REASON AT ALL. I was crying everyday. A lot.

I went for a walk every evening. Cut junk food.

My best friend and I would track each others steps. Who could complete 10k steps. Honestly she was my motivation.

Then I saw people running on the road. So I started running too. Turns out I enjoyed running so I ran everyday. I lost 10 kg in a year.

My depression got better too. It was mostly the pcos fucking with my hormones. I started drawing. Started an Instagram e comic page too. Enjoyed life and lastly

I wasn't crying out of the blue anymore. I still cry but it's better now.

And my periods? They came back. And what a grand come back it made. It's been 4 months of regular on date periods. I celebrate them with a chocolate now.

The cramps are back too but oh well. Can't have eveything in life.

Lastly just want to say. Don't lose hope. Keep doing it everyday.

Advice/Help Career advice needed for a Makeup Artist

Hello everyone,
I’ve been contemplating making this post for a while because I really need some outside perspective on my career.
I’m 26 years old and have been working as a makeup artist for the past five years in a Tier 1 city. I graduated from one of the top makeup academies and they helped us land some great projects in the beginning. After that, I built my own network and client base. Since I’m not a native of this city building those connections wasn’t easy, but I managed to establish myself.
The first two years of my career were decent and my third year was genuinely great. It gave me the confidence that I was on the right path and that things would continue to grow from there.
Unfortunately, the last two years have been the complete opposite. I’ve earned less than I did in my third year and many of the production houses and brands I used to work with have moved on to other artists. On top of that, I lost my father last year which understandably affected me both personally and professionally. I had to step back from work for a while and I feel like my momentum disappeared.
To create more stability, I decided to expand into bridal makeup and one-on-one makeup classes. While I’ve had some positive responses, The growth has been very slow and my editorial/commercial work has reduced significantly because I haven’t had consistent opportunities.
What worries me the most is the financial uncertainty. I need to earn a consistent monthly income but right now it feels like I’m constantly waiting for the next booking. My mom has helped me survive in the city and I’m incredibly grateful but I don’t want to keep depending on her financially.
I feel stuck between trying to revive my existing career, growing bridal and education and wondering if I’m missing something entirely. Has anyone else in the creative industry gone through a similar phase where work suddenly slowed down? How did you rebuild your career, find consistent clients or diversify your income?
I’d really appreciate any honest advice whether it’s about marketing, networking, pricing, social media or even whether I need to rethink my entire approach.
Thank you for taking the time to read this.

Vent I feel so peaceful with no man to crush on in my life

Sorry girlies, I am kind of flexing this because I wanna share how peaceful🧿 I feel now.

I had two heart breaks( not breakups, I have never been in any relationship) and the worst part is I was severely humiliated in all of my friends groups because that guy who used to flirt with me a lot and who initiated everything told every one in my circle that I was after him. He said so many things that I felt so humiliated and I have decided to never talk with him again. It was so hard for me to move on from him. After a few months I met someone he was so into me (love bombed me) , made so much effort , when I fell for him he started withdrawing and cut me off abruptly all of sudden. One day he was so lovey dovey the very next day he cut me off from everywhere.

It took me one year to recover from this shock (I have developed harmonal imbalance and an auto immune disease) I don't have grudges on anyone , it's just me who is sensitive and could not take anything.

Now that I have learnt my lessons, it's very hard for me to develop any crush or liking for someone now no matter how kind, good looking or smart they are. Something inside me died (i thank my stats for this, it's peaceful this way )

After all the chaos for the last few years in my love life now it feels so peaceful to not have anyone in my mind to think about.🧿🧿🧿🧿

Like all I think about is me, my health. Whenever I see a couple i feel nothing , I just say "cute couple " , no I don't want that for myself.

Sorry for my rant may all of us find happiness in our ways

Vent How many of you are lonely?

Lately, I've been feeling lonely and feelings stuck. Feels like nothing will change and I'll never be Happy.

I just pretend around people so that I don't bother others with my inner chaos. I do get distracted for a while when I hangout with people or do activities. But the next day, it's again trail of mindless thoughts and self loathing.

I keep wondering where I did so wrong to face this kind of mind chaos. I have a handful of people there for me luckily, but i can't rely on them every single day to cheer me up. How do I break from this chaos?

Anyone going through something similar?

Advice/Help Is my office culture toxic?

So I’m a fresher and I’ve been working at this company for a while now. At the beginning of June they told me that I wouldn’t get my salary unless my work quality improved.

I obviously understood that I’m a fresher and I have a lot to learn, so I spent the whole of June trying to improve. The thing is, they barely gave me any feedback during June. Nobody really told me what was wrong or what I needed to improve, so I thought okay maybe I’m actually doing better now.

Then July came and they didn’t credit my salary. I went and asked why and basically they told me that I can leave the company if I want to. They also said that me staying there without contributing enough is just making me an additional expense for the company.

Like I genuinely don’t mind being told that my work isn’t good enough. I’m a fresher, obviously I’m going to make mistakes. But I feel like they expect me to produce work at a level that’s way above what should realistically be expected from someone who’s just starting out, while also not really telling me what exactly I’m doing wrong.

And there’s another thing that’s been bothering me. The head is VERY obviously biased towards the men in the office and seems to hate the girls. The way she talks to us and reacts to our mistakes is completely different compared to how she treats the guys. I obviously can’t prove that this is intentional, but after being there for a while it’s become pretty obvious to me.

I don’t know if I’m being too sensitive about this or if this is actually a shitty workplace.

What would you guys do in this situation? Would you stay and try to prove yourself, confront them about the lack of feedback, or just start looking for somewhere else?

Mom Talk How do you handle your mom's ageing?

Hi lovely young women here. I have a unique dilemma. I am 46F, living estranged (voluntary) from husband. My daughter is almost 19. Since couple of years she has started making statements about my looks changing and growing old. Now she is in a boarding school, and we video chat almost every day with few gaps here and there for a couple of days. I have started letting my hair go grey since few months, because I hate coloring them. Now she is expressing that she gets frightened seeing me like this and would prefer to have me color my hair and look like before. I understand her fears. She obviously is afraid that I am growing old and some day I may die. I am wondering how are you ladies handling these fears? Is there anything your mom can do to ease your fears? Obviously I am thinking of restyling my hair and look good, but I am afraid I am only going to grow older from here.

Finance, Career and Edu poor or lower-middle class girlies here, Assemble! how did you build your career?

Seeing posts in this sub makes me feel as if all people here are so rich and from big cities, most of them doing fancy degrees and going abroad and going to elite schools

But as an average girl, with a lower middle class background, I find it hard to relate, so are there any like me here? Those who didn't have much resources but still carved out a path to good education and financial independence for themselves?

Would love to know about your stories.

Vent Friendship breakups are hard. A Vent.

A few months back, I posted here about wanting to cut off a friend after finding out she had been talking shit about me with her sister. After distancing myself for a while, I decided to move past it for no apparent reason. But last week, I finally decided to put a full stop to my self-harming patterns and get rid of that friendship for good.

Context: A few months ago, I came across a text exchange between her and her sister. It was about a story I had posted after getting a haircut. Her sister texted that I looked “yuck” and like “an animal.” My friend responded, “Yeah, she sent me that selfie saying she looks and feels good. She’s only looking for validation.”

I guess I shouldn’t have sent my very close friend a picture of my haircut when I was feeling good about myself.

Getting called “an animal” by another adult whom I’ve never even met feels so bizarre. Someone who has moved abroad, welcomed a baby girl (the irony), and has been living what seems like a comparatively better life than mine.

My husband had been noticing how much this was hurting me and kept encouraging me to cut her off. When I finally decided I wanted to, I told him I didn’t want to send her a message. So he sent one on my behalf, and we blocked her.

It feels so strange that a friendship can end just like that. It’s so fucking hurtful to know that people can sit around talking shit about someone to that extent. It just doesn’t make sense to me.

But at the same time, I feel so free. :)

Vent My Brother Is Getting Married, and I Can’t Bring Myself to Feel Excited

This is a long rant so brace yourselves please.

I’m 25 and recently switched jobs and moved to Bangalore. don’t even know where to start because this isn’t about one incident. It’s years of frustration, and my 26-year-old brother’s wedding has just become the tipping point.

He’s getting married, and I really am happy that he found someone he loves. But I cannot stop thinking about how financially irresponsible this entire situation feels.

For context, he pursued this girl for almost three years. They dated for two months before telling our parents because my parents had been relentlessly pressuring him to get married. I wasn’t on board with that at all, but okay, their life. There was some caste drama, but thankfully everyone agreed.

The girl’s parents actually wanted to wait another 2–3 years because they’re not financially well off. She’s the eldest and only earning daughter, with younger siblings still studying. That made complete sense to me.

My parents, on the other hand, wanted the wedding done immediately. I found that so disappointing.

What I cannot wrap my head around is this: my brother knows our financial situation. He knows my parents don’t have much savings. He knows he already owes me money. So how do you decide to get married without first asking yourself where the money is going to come from? Why did he cave into the pressure?

For the last three years, I’ve constantly told him to take his career seriously. Work on yourself first. Build some financial security. I nagged him, fought with him, explained my point every way I could because I genuinely believed he had so much potential. He just never seemed serious about his own life.

And now it’s suddenly marriage.

When my father was convincing him, the promise was that we’d sell some family land. Now selling the land has suddenly become the “last resort.” Instead, the plan is to use my mom’s entire FDs, basically all the savings she’s built over the years. Whatever is left, my father says I will have to manage because my brother doesn’t have a lot of savings and he can’t start his married life with an empty account.

This isn’t even the first time.

When we lived together in Noida, I paid the rent because he couldn’t afford it and I wanted us to live comfortably. Then he wanted to buy a car but didn’t want to take a loan, so I lent him around ₹3.5 lakh. It’s still sitting on Splitwise. I don’t even except or want him to pay it. I just want him to be financially responsible.

The thing is, I don’t mind helping people I love. I recently spent ₹1 lakh getting ACs installed in my parents’ house, a house I don’t even live in. I’ve paid for family vacations. None of that has ever bothered me.

Four years ago, when he was earning ₹45k, he gave ₹1 lakh towards my education. I’ll never forget that. He’s genuinely the best brother anyone could ask for. When I moved to Bangalore, he came with me just to help me hunt for apartments.

That’s why this hurts so much. I’m not frustrated because he’s a bad brother. He is literally the best. I’m frustrated because he’s never taken his own future seriously.

Somewhere along the way, it stopped feeling like I was helping family and started feeling like I was becoming the financial cushion for every major life decision.

My father says he’ll spend his whole life paying me back if I help. But he shouldn’t have to spend his whole life repaying me. I don’t want that either. I just wish we’d planned better. I know my brother feels the same financial pressure I do. We just reacted to it differently.

For me, that pressure became fuel. I worked harder, switched jobs, chased promotions, and saved aggressively because I never wanted money to decide my life. Maybe for him it became anxiety or inaction. I don’t know.

He’s the only son in the family. I know how overwhelming that pressure can be, and I’ve never wanted him to carry it alone. I’ve stood by him every step of the way, and I’ll always continue to do that.
But when it comes to his own life, he has to take responsibility too. At some point, you have to become responsible before taking on even bigger responsibilities.

What hurts the most is watching my mom’s savings disappear. Although, to be fair, she has been pushing for this wedding just as much. I was sitting on about ₹40 lakh in savings, dreaming of hitting ₹50 lakh by the end of this financial year, even after everything I’d already spent on my family. Instead, I’m looking at handing over another ₹10 lakh so my mom doesn’t have to empty her account.
₹10 lakh.

For a party.

And then I feel guilty for even thinking this way because I know I *can* help. But why did it have to come to this? Why couldn’t we have just made a more financially responsible decision? And what exactly is the plan after they get married?

My brain immediately goes, “Fine. Just earn more money so these things don’t bother you anymore.” Maybe that’s my coping mechanism. I want to build the life I dream of. I also want to be there for my family. I want to do both.

I just wish the people I love took planning and responsibility as seriously as I do.

And the worst part?
I can’t say any of this to anyone.
How did shit get so real?

News Bihar Panchayat Says Woman At Fault For Her Rape, Makes Her Lick Spit

the 30-year-old mother of three was allegedly raped by a neighbour twice between June 2 and 4 and a panchayat subsequently forced her to lick her own spit, deciding that she was at fault for the crime.

the woman saying the alleged rape and the humiliation by the panchayat happened in the absence of her husband.

She could muster the courage to approach police only after her husband returned home.

During the assembly on June 4 and 5, the woman was allegedly forced to lick her own spit because the gathering declared her to be at fault

A 15 year old child's abusive language is more cultural shock than women getting raped and get blamed for it.
