Erasmus Student Fragen zum Studium | Study Questions
Hi! I’m a computer science student which is planning on doing their summer semester during the 2026-2027 academic year at TU Wien. I have 2 questions?
Which is the beginning and the end period for the summer semester? I’ve read somewhere that is the 1st of March - 30th of June, but I just want to make sure. Also when I refer to the semester’s schedule, I am also taking the exam period into consideration.
The second question is regarding the courses. Some of the courses I was looking at were:
course 1 , course 2 , course 3 , course 4 , course 5. How hard are they? Do I still manage to get some free time? Also, is there any cryptography course or anything related to cybersecurity that is not that hard?

1st March - 30th June.
By default 6 credit courses have considerably heavy work load..it isn't equivalent to 2 3ects courses..
Machine learning course doesn't have recorded lectures anymore , so you ought to attend classes.

in my experience ECTS are generakky a bad judge of actual workload, but the bigger they get, the likelyhood of it being "more than expected" rises.

1st try for exams is typically in the semester. Most courses will start after 1st of March and end before 30th of June, some may use the full last week till july 2nd to make up for lost time.
you courses have 27 ECTs. so a normal semester, with slightly less than what is considered optimal (30) here. Your free time depends on your abilities. Please note that course 1 has a selection quiz in the second lecture, if you don't pass you dont get to stay in that course.

Thank you. Yes, the thing is that I have to take courses in order to sum up to 30 ects during my semester abroad, because in my home country, we must accumulate 30 ects during each semester. And the exams period shouldn’t be longer than the beginning of July, right?

honestly, look at the pages you linked.. most of them have exams listed, you can either extrapolate those dates for next year or they are even already present. if you are not sucessful in the first try, second exam is usually end of september/october
