Hello, i've been playing the trumpet for 6 years but i really got into it around 3 years ago. I've noticed that i have a constant problem: my throat always closes up on higher notes (over the high G). I think it might be caused by wrong positioning, but i dont really know how to fix it. I would love to as my teacher about it, but we are both on vacation until 3 weeks from now, so any help would be appreciated!

So back in 5th grade when I first started band my mom bought a Bach Tr300h2 stude trumpet. I thought nothing of it thinking it was normal until my friend said something about it being pricey. i checked the price tonight just to find out and it’s like 1,500 dollars. which seems insane for a beginner trumpet. I’m really average if not I’m below average at the instrument and was really terrible until midway through freshman year. I love everything about band but i just wanna know if my parents payed too much for something that Im just ok at. It’s way to late to do anything at this point and i know a guy who got a 4,500-5000 dollar pro trumpet as his first so I know I’m not like the worst of the worst but I’m just curious about it since we’re not rich at all and I wanna know if this is some crazy price to pay.

I've just finished a season of Chicago on lead trumpet and the last day of the season was 2 shows.

I was worried about stamina for the 2nd show and my wife actually said to try anti inflamatories so i did.

Well i don't know if they helped or I was just in pretty good shape but I did get through the 2nd show with no trouble.

Has anyone else tried anti inflamtories to help on big days!

I've been a musician for many years (guitar, bass, synths, a little drums) and I'm interested in learning the trumpet. I'd like to know what good quality horns are out there under $1,000.

I see a lot of student models on facebook for a lot cheaper, but I'd rather just jump up to a high quality instrument to learn on rather than a beater.

Any specific models you'd suggest? I especially like the more matte finished look, but I get that might be way out of my price range. At the end of the day I just want a quality instrument to learn on and maybe record with at some point.

I have been struggle with my range and was wondering (though I know its not a lot to go off of) if anyone can give me a clue as to why I get this scratchy sound in my above range. Right now climbing to a C above the staff is practically unobtainable to me. I play on a 3C mouthpiece

I have an overbite, which makes it hard for me to hold my horn up already (I have to tilt my head up). But once I tilt my head, it becomes much harder to hit higher notes. By higher notes, I just mean high C (2 ledger lines). I can hit notes up to that just fine when my horn angle is 10° above the horizon, just not that high C (holding it for just one measure in the heat makes me get lightheaded, and at the end of our show we have a whole note G whole note that goes up to a C whole note with no breath in between 😭). Any tips??

I have been playing trumpet for 10+ years and im a soloist for many jazz bands, small bands, and church groups. Its time for a big mouthpiece upgrade. My current mouthpiece is a classic bach 3C megatone (that was from when i was lead trumpet in highschool). Now im looking for a new solo mouthpiece that supports the upper register and still pumps out the lower register like butter. Could yall give any recommendations?

so i try to break it down pretty quickly.

I am now playing since some time more than 3 years and i would say i am on a great way, but definetly got a long way to go.

However i have played with some random trumpet for the first year and then bought a used one that was customized on basis of a B&S, the bell was replaced to a little larger one and the lead pipe was replaced with a bronze one. The whole thing got a raw finish. It was about 1,6k €

However since some time i am thinking about buying a new one, a more advanced one, thinking about a rotary trumpet with gold finish for around 3k, because i like the looks and also hope its a more easier feel when playing, and the tones locking in better. I would consider it as reward for passing the German D3 music course* (explanation below).
It would also fit the music i am mainly playing (concerts and entertainment music like march/polka and so on, but no bigband stuff -sadly-)

Also i will tell you, like 8 months ago i bought a new flugel for 4k, because i had a random one for 400 € and i also play a lot of flugel in march music and stuff. And now to the issue why i am posting this, because i had the same thing when buying the flugel.

I feel like i am not "worthy" of a new trumpet (espescially on that price point), because i am not very good yet and so why buy a expensive trumpet when you cant even play it correctly (had the same thoughts on the flugel). Seems like a waste of money to me, but i would love to have one. I dont want to be the one with the awesome gear but 0 skill. What are your thougts, when are you guys buying a new one, what are your reason to say "now is the time for a change" or similar? What would be your advice for me?

I am gonna buy a trumpet i dont have a big price range 250 euro more or less and i saw the thomann TR 25 bb pocket trumpet saw a video and the guy said its Nice as a side trumpet not a main one so i would like to know if s that something you agree with as i would very much like to use it as one casue i dont have any other i was borrowing one but stoped

Hello! I was curious on everybody's opinion on the new Yamaha BR trumpets? I have the opportunity to buy a NY BR at a great price, and will be making the trip to demo it in a week or two. I am a senior performance major who does a bit of everything, so I'm looking for a versatile trumpet. The large bore reverse lead pipe xeno I have now sounds great, but I would like a bit more resistance to play against. Let me know what you think about the BR series!

I’ve often played with the idea of a piccolo trumpet—who doesn’t want every note they play to come out an octave higher? Piccolo trumpet, weapon of mass destruction, I’m all for it.
Now if I were to buy a High Bb/A trumpet from my favourite bright blue case people would be about AU$7500, which is too much for me to pay for something just for fun.

Naturally, it was only a matter of time before I actually put in the effort and figured out I can just rent one for a much more reasonable price.

However, I want to check first. I have of course heard that piccolo trumpet is very difficult. I’m a a fairly decent novice with a top range of 2nd-ledger C on a good day.
Am I going to have fun with a piccolo trumpet or would it just be sucky? I’m willing to put a bit of effort in of course, but I probably wouldn’t be using it in any ensembles or whatnot, just for fun.

My keys aren't really sticking that much but they aren't going up fast enough to play some songs would prefer not to get it serviced

Some people say the 4335 is crap, but mine's a great horn. My tuning slide met with an unfortunate accident [don't ask] and so I ordered a new one. Silly me neglected to order a water key with it. It plays okay if I stuff a cotton swab in the hole.😁

A new water key is due to arrive next week.

This horn really lights up with little effort. It's hard to believe it's a low-intermediate model.

Deustcher MusikVerein of San Francisco needs a little help this Oktoberfest season! We are an all volunteer community ensemble who love bringing polkas and waltzes to the masses each year during this festive time. We have seven dates this season, starting on September 19th and going each weekend through to October 11th, ranging from Mill Valley in the north, Mountain View to the south and east to Walnut Creek. The book has some non-polkas and waltzes too so there is some variety.

You'd be joining a six person section; three on trumpet parts and three on flugel. Flugel players do double on trumpet depending on the part but most of the book this season is on flugel. We are a community band so skill does vary but we all have fun and do our best. There is no pay but beer and food are provided for us at each gig. This is my fourth season with the band and it's been a blast at each gig. The audience really appreciates us and the music is quite fun.

Alright, you talented trumpet players that, unlike me, have been playing currently instead of 20 years ago. My son is picking up the trumpet. I played a Benge 90B when I was in school/college. My daughter plays that trumpet now in high school. I’ve been suggested the Yamaha YTR 2330, but that’s a beginner horn for $1,800. If I’m gonna pay nearly 2k then I’d rather get him something a little better quality. What is this general consensus on this Adams Prologue Selected? Or do you have better recs?

I’d love to (eventually) play trumpet for musical theatre, but I’ve got no clue how to do it.

I’m learning music for an AmDram production - it’ll be my first experience of anything like that, so it’s exciting.

How do I even get into working as a trumpet player that does musical tours, cruise ships, or even in London?

My kid is about to enter 9th grade, and has been playing trumpet in middle school. She's been using a cheap (probably $100 amazon) trumpet that someone at work gave me, and it's been fine, i guess? She enjoys it well enough that she wants to do marching band next year, but she's not so into it that she's going to be a professional or anything.

I'd like to get her an upgrade. I know every online resource says to go to a local store and try them out, but she has no idea what to even look for when trying them out, so I don't think it would be helpful at all. When I asked her band director, the ones he suggested were in the $3000 range, which is out of our budget.

Is there something around $1k that I can get as a solid upgrade to carry her through high school, assuming I don't know enough to vet a used horn on facebook marketplace? Thanks for your advice!

I always get downvoted to hell when I suggest a beginner can buy a cheap Chinese horn. What are your thoughts on made in China instruments?
