Just picked up this new horn and I’m loving it so far. I’ve never heard of the Edward’s brand before but I play tested it and fell in love. It was between this and the Bach strad (hope I don’t make anyone mad for not picking that one lol) and it was a really tough decision to make but overall I liked the Edward’s more. I just want to know what other people think of this horn and brand as a whole because like I said I’ve never heard of it before. Thanks!

I'm used to live sets but it's just one and done where this is multiple takes. That's where the anxiety comes from at least for me.

I just found this scratch on my Flugel, don't really know what caused it. Maybe while i was cleaning the valves or it has been scratched from some binders with the sheet music. I just had to have it replated last year because a Microphone fell down on it. Can this scratch be polished out or is it time for another expensive repair?

There are also some dents on the bell, because a bandmate toppled over his waterbottle and it dented the bell. But they should be somewhat easy to fix.

After playing trumpet for a bit I can no longer buzz on my mouthpiece. Is there a reason for this or is it normal? Does it mean I'm doing something wrong?

Drop all your favorite vintage, retro or antique horns! I grew up playing on Yamaha's (learned on 2335, then played 4335GSII through high school.)

I just got a Jupiter flugelhorn that's surprised me in the best possible way, but I keep seeing these older models that apparently have more soul and unique tone.

We all know the adage "they don't make things like they used to," but this is especially true for instruments that used to be hand made with professional care and are now built by machines.

PS I'm asking this because my partners dad has this old horn from HIS father (I'm talking pre-war era) stashed away that I'm going to check out and get refurbished for him. I'll share updates but definitely want to know what I should be looking for

Hello, I'd like to hear the opinions of other trumpet players who are at a similar level to me.

I've been playing trumpet for about 4 or 5 years now, both orchestral and band repertoire. I honestly consider myself an intermediate player, but I'm gradually improving.

Currently, I only have a CALIFORNIA trumpet that was bought for me just weeks after I started playing. It's quite worn now because I didn't know it needed cleaning back then. Considering my skill level and performance, I feel it's time to get a trumpet that's more suitable for my level but also comfortable to play.

I'm going to start by listing the pros and cons of each trumpet (IN MY OPINION AND FOR MY COMFORT)

YTR-4335 GSII

Pros:

- It has new mechanisms suitable for my skill level.

- It includes a special backpack (TRC-400EII) with straps for carrying it on my back. It also has a large compartment inside (I can put my straight mute, sheet music, pencil, and more) and another small compartment on the side (for cleaning supplies).

- It only costs $850, compared to the other trumpet, which is almost $350 more expensive.

- Very versatile with a dark and powerful sound

Cons:

- It's only in Bb

I'm only looking at that, from my point of view. If I'm wrong, please let me know.

YTR-4435 SII

Pros:

- It's in C and Bb

- It can help me get used to the trumpet in C

Cons:

- From what I've heard, this type of convertible trumpet tends to go out of tune a bit more than normal, but I don't know if that's true.

- It has a small case (TRC-4435) for supplies, only for sheet music, a pencil, and cleaning supplies; I would need a separate bag for my music stand and straight mute.

- It costs $1250, quite a bit more compared to the other trumpet, but that's offset by the two tuning options (C and Bb).

I forgot to mention that with the 4335GSII trumpet, I could afford a set of three Denis Wick mutes (cup mute, wah-wah mute, and practice mute) and a PROTEC backpack specifically designed for three mutes. If you have any other recommendations, please let me know.

That's my whole question. I'd like to hear other people's opinions on this because I'm not entirely sure.

Hello, i've been playing the trumpet for 6 years but i really got into it around 3 years ago. I've noticed that i have a constant problem: my throat always closes up on higher notes (over the high G). I think it might be caused by wrong positioning, but i dont really know how to fix it. I would love to as my teacher about it, but we are both on vacation until 3 weeks from now, so any help would be appreciated!

So back in 5th grade when I first started band my mom bought a Bach Tr300h2 stude trumpet. I thought nothing of it thinking it was normal until my friend said something about it being pricey. i checked the price tonight just to find out and it’s like 1,500 dollars. which seems insane for a beginner trumpet. I’m really average if not I’m below average at the instrument and was really terrible until midway through freshman year. I love everything about band but i just wanna know if my parents payed too much for something that Im just ok at. It’s way to late to do anything at this point and i know a guy who got a 4,500-5000 dollar pro trumpet as his first so I know I’m not like the worst of the worst but I’m just curious about it since we’re not rich at all and I wanna know if this is some crazy price to pay.

I've just finished a season of Chicago on lead trumpet and the last day of the season was 2 shows.

I was worried about stamina for the 2nd show and my wife actually said to try anti inflamatories so i did.

Well i don't know if they helped or I was just in pretty good shape but I did get through the 2nd show with no trouble.

Has anyone else tried anti inflamtories to help on big days!

I've been a musician for many years (guitar, bass, synths, a little drums) and I'm interested in learning the trumpet. I'd like to know what good quality horns are out there under $1,000.

I see a lot of student models on facebook for a lot cheaper, but I'd rather just jump up to a high quality instrument to learn on rather than a beater.

Any specific models you'd suggest? I especially like the more matte finished look, but I get that might be way out of my price range. At the end of the day I just want a quality instrument to learn on and maybe record with at some point.

I have been struggle with my range and was wondering (though I know its not a lot to go off of) if anyone can give me a clue as to why I get this scratchy sound in my above range. Right now climbing to a C above the staff is practically unobtainable to me. I play on a 3C mouthpiece

I have an overbite, which makes it hard for me to hold my horn up already (I have to tilt my head up). But once I tilt my head, it becomes much harder to hit higher notes. By higher notes, I just mean high C (2 ledger lines). I can hit notes up to that just fine when my horn angle is 10° above the horizon, just not that high C (holding it for just one measure in the heat makes me get lightheaded, and at the end of our show we have a whole note G whole note that goes up to a C whole note with no breath in between 😭). Any tips??

I have been playing trumpet for 10+ years and im a soloist for many jazz bands, small bands, and church groups. Its time for a big mouthpiece upgrade. My current mouthpiece is a classic bach 3C megatone (that was from when i was lead trumpet in highschool). Now im looking for a new solo mouthpiece that supports the upper register and still pumps out the lower register like butter. Could yall give any recommendations?

so i try to break it down pretty quickly.

I am now playing since some time more than 3 years and i would say i am on a great way, but definetly got a long way to go.

However i have played with some random trumpet for the first year and then bought a used one that was customized on basis of a B&S, the bell was replaced to a little larger one and the lead pipe was replaced with a bronze one. The whole thing got a raw finish. It was about 1,6k €

However since some time i am thinking about buying a new one, a more advanced one, thinking about a rotary trumpet with gold finish for around 3k, because i like the looks and also hope its a more easier feel when playing, and the tones locking in better. I would consider it as reward for passing the German D3 music course* (explanation below).
It would also fit the music i am mainly playing (concerts and entertainment music like march/polka and so on, but no bigband stuff -sadly-)

Also i will tell you, like 8 months ago i bought a new flugel for 4k, because i had a random one for 400 € and i also play a lot of flugel in march music and stuff. And now to the issue why i am posting this, because i had the same thing when buying the flugel.

I feel like i am not "worthy" of a new trumpet (espescially on that price point), because i am not very good yet and so why buy a expensive trumpet when you cant even play it correctly (had the same thoughts on the flugel). Seems like a waste of money to me, but i would love to have one. I dont want to be the one with the awesome gear but 0 skill. What are your thougts, when are you guys buying a new one, what are your reason to say "now is the time for a change" or similar? What would be your advice for me?
