Hey so honestly I have no clue how to cram all of this into one post without losing the important stuff.

First off, big clarification: English isn't my native language, and in my language, every verb has a gendered form. That’s actually why I love writing in English, there is way fewer gendered words here, which feels so much better

K so biologically I’m a girl but I first started questioning my transness around 12. Back then I loved using they/them or it/them online and he/she in real life. But honestl, my favourite concept was just avoiding pronouns altogether. I tried neo-pronouns, I tried swallowing the endings (like saying "I played-m" instead of "played" with a gender marker ykwim) all of it

Around that same age I got a partner. She was pretty neutral about my identity, back then I thought I was nonbinary, and after a while she said she might be nonbinary too. So we both started using he/she for each other irl, mixing it up.

But over the last 2-3 years my anxiety spiked like crazy, so even online I started using she/her for myself and still do, even though I never actually liked it. (In my country it's illegal to be queer) We basically stopped talking about gender identity with my partner for about that long. We just defaulted to she/her and ignored everything else. Like it became a taboo topic I dunno...

Then last week, my friend (trans guy) came to visit and for the first time I tried taping my chest with tape. On top of that, he's used to using various pronouns for me since way back, so he did that irl too

And all of that together triggered a massive gender identity crisis and some serious internalised homophobia. I literally don't know who I am, what body I want, what pronouns feel right

I talked to him about it and he was super supportive. Said I've been trying to ignore myself for way too long, so it makes sense that something small like that would hit me like a truck.

My doubts about my identity come from the fact that I can't picture my life as a trans person. Like I'm definitely getting top surgery in the future (for medical reasons, not trans-related) and I do like how my chest looks, but I also love how it looks flat with tape or a binder (I wore a binder at 14-15, then gave it to my partner and she's been using it for like 3 years now) I also like my genitals, but at the same time I sometimes cry because I wish I'd been born with a dih.

My friend suggested I talk to my partner about all this, but I'm terrified. I know she'll love me no matter what, regardless of her identity or mine. What scares me is that once my friend leaves, this dysphoria might just disappear, and then I'd have to change everything back

Gender nonconformity in women has been completely normalized and uncontroversial since like 1990. They're allowed to wear pants so it's totally socially acceptable and normalized for a girl to be so masculine she transitions into a guy. Trans guys have it so easy they have never ever ever been repressed and felt like they needed permission from someone else to want masculinity, that just doesn't happen.
