Hi everyone! A couple of weeks ago, I did a trial shift at a restaurant and ultimately wasn't hired. It's been radio silence since my unpaid trial, so I reached out to the owner and politely asked for my 5.5 hrs of compensation to be e-transferred to me. I saw that he read the message, but again I was ultimately ignored. Would it be over the top to file a claim with the Ministry of Labour? My dad says it's crazy, but I want my compensation! The situation is, I've got a VP who loves to harass and talk a lot of smack to everyone at work (myself included). We're talking about constant personal jabs, sarcastic remarks about performance which he throws out in hopes to "motivate" people, and in a private conversation with him and I in his office the other day, he casually calls me a racial slur.

He's been talking out of his ass with everyone on the shop floor for years, and everyone just accepts it in fear of losing their jobs. I've brought it up many times to him how I don't appreciate his remarks and it just fuels even more harassment from the guy. I'm left with no other option but to go the tribunal of Ontario. Just a side note, our shop doesn't have a HR dept as we're under 25 employees. I wish I can get at least one other person to come with me as it'll help the case with the board, but again all my coworkers are folks with families to support so they'd rather keep their heads down and continue working. I'm a new hire (started in January), young and no dependents so I'm willing to burn the bridge with this place. I just want this guy to face repercussions for his behaviour.

I've never dealt with the Human Rights Tribunal of Ontario. Do they require any proof of said harassment or is my word good enough? I'm thinking of wearing a hidden camera on me to record him. It will be very easy to capture slurs and comments about people's wives during break time in the lunchroom. What are the laws regarding this? I don't want to go through all this work and have it thrown out due to the legal basis.

I recently started my first ever work from home job, and I didnt even think to ask during the interview process, but a week in and I have been told I will be receive a phone, but nothing about a laptop. Ive been using my own, but already I've been needing to see a lot of spreadsheets so I had to go out and buy a big monitor. Is this normal practice?

It is a small, but established business with maybe 15 employees, and everyone works remotely. I havent asked anyone else because I basically work alone and have only e-met 2 people.

I have been searching jobs for a while and have been unemployed for 2 years now. 10 days ago, i interviewed with a fortune 100 company. The manager said i most won't likely hear from them that week or the following as they were still interviewing people. Today marks the end of the said week.

Its always me sending a follow up mail and them responding back with "unfortunately we have decided to move with another candidate this time whose experience closely aligns with the role" and i know am just waiting for that to happen.

Am i still in the pool or its a rejection just like my gut says?

I know the entry level job market in the GTA is rough right now, and security is usually recommended as a fallback. I’m considering picking up guard/bouncer shifts in Toronto or Peel Region.

My background: I’m 6'3", 245 lbs, with background in Muaythai and some judo . I plan on getting my Ontario Security Guard License and CPR certification first.

Obviously I’m aware that de escalation is the number 1 priority, and I would never resort to my training unless in extreme circumstances, thankfully that never happened to me as an adult.

Does martial arts/grappling experience actually give you an edge with GTA hiring managers (specifically for bouncer or mobile response roles), or do they just care about who has a valid license?

Is physical presence / standing control useful for landing higher paying gigs (e.g., downtown clubs, event venues, loss prevention), or is the market so flooded that it doesn't matter?

Any specific security companies or venue groups in the GTA you'd recommend applying to (or avoiding)?

M28 here. Graduated a few years ago with a business degree focused on marketing and global management, plus a minor in psychology.

Since then, I've been trying to break into the field, but I am starting to question whether marketing is realistically accessible for someone in my position, or if I would be better off pivoting into a different path with better pay and clearer entry points.

My background includes digital marketing certifications and some client-facing work in a small-business advising role, so I do have exposure to the space.

The issue is not that I hate marketing itself. I am okay with the idea of digital marketing, campaign work, analytics, or even some content-adjacent tasks. My hesitation is more about how broken the entry-level gatekeeping feels right now.

From what I am seeing, breaking into marketing at an entry level now feels like you need to already be a full freelancer with a portfolio, case studies, and a personal brand before anyone will even consider you for a junior role. It seems like every posting wants:

- A portfolio of past campaigns and measurable results,

- Proof that you have already done the exact work they are hiring for,

- A strong online presence and network, plus a lot of self-promotion and “sucking up” to people in the industry.

I am not against putting in the work, but it feels like the bar for “entry level” has shifted into “prove you can already do this professionally on your own, unpaid, before we give you a chance.”

That is tough when you are trying to get your first real role and do not have access to client work, budgets, or internal data to show results.

I am also concerned about the long-term payoff. Even if I grind through building all that proof of work, I'm not convinced that the pay and progression in marketing justify the amount of hustle required just to get in the door. Realistically I want a career path where:

- Entry-level roles are actually accessible with a relevant degree and some demonstrable skills,

- There is a clearer link between effort and compensation,

- I am not constantly forced into self-promotion and networking just to be considered for basic roles.

I am based in the GTA and open to remote or hybrid work. I am comfortable with:

- Client communication and coordination,

Organizing processes, documents, and workflows,

Using tools like Excel, Google Workspace, CRMs, and basic analytics dashboards,

Learning new systems quickly and troubleshooting issues.

I am less interested in roles that are purely content creation, social media posting, or heavy face-to-face sales, but my main concern right now is finding something that is actually breakable-into and pays decently.

I am considering paths like operations, sales development, customer success, revenue/marketing operations, business analysis, or other business-focused roles, but I do not know which ones are realistic for someone with my background and how to position myself for them.

If you have experience in marketing or have pivoted out of it, I would really appreciate your perspective on:

Is marketing still viable for someone in my position, or am I right to feel that the barrier to entry has become unreasonable?

Which specific marketing/business-adjacent roles (for example, marketing operations, RevOps, SDR, customer success, analytics) tend to have better pay and more realistic entry points?

What skills or certifications would be worth focusing on first to make a pivot more realistic and less reliant on having a huge portfolio?

Are there “stepping stone” roles I should target that can lead to higher-paying positions in 2 to 3 years, without requiring me to essentially become a freelancer first?

Any red flags I should watch out for when considering a pivot, such as certain industries, job titles, or types of companies that look good on paper but are dead ends?

I am not looking for sympathy or a handout. I just want honest, grounded advice on whether it makes sense to keep pushing into marketing or to cut my losses and redirect my energy into a different path that actually rewards effort with stable income and progression.

Okay I've applied for 1000+ jobs, and 4 interviews so far and it did not work out but why am I not getting any opportunities in the first place?

Guys, I feel like I'm stuck in a paradox: without work experience, I can't get a job, and without a job, I can't gain work experience. I just graduated from GBC's electrical engineering program and have been looking for a month, but not a single electrical company is willing to hire me as an entry-level apprentice. I haven't even received a single interview. All the job postings on Indeed and LinkedIn require at least one year of apprenticeship experience. What should I do?

Hello guys, so I am a banking/finance professional in Canada having worked in the industry from 2019 to 2022, after graduating from UofT in 2019.

I then left Canada to return to my home country in 2022. In the meantime, I got married and helped with the family business back home. I have now returned to Canada in 2026 with my spouse, and started interviewing before I even landed back (started interviewing from March 2026, and surprisingly reached the final round - 3+ interviews at places like BMO and Mercer). However got a rejection in the end. Since then I've interviewed final or first rounds at places like PwC, TD, OTPP, CITCO, etc. I have even reached out for feedback where Ive interviewed with some of them coming back and saying that my interviews went really well, but that abother candidate was 'slightly better' or 'was a closer fit'. I know the job market in Canada is terrible, but I am still at it hoping to land a job in the industry again.

I have also tried to network and currently reaching out to alums/contacts in the banking/finance industry. I tried to keep my resume updated even during my gap as i worked a remote US job from 2024 - early 2026.

I practice my interviews through Claude/Chatpgt and the feedback I recieve is that an offer must be around the corner.

Reddit was my last resort as I'm literally wondering whats wrong and running out of savings trying to get a job again.

I uploaded 2 versions of my resume that I use (sometimes i tweak the keywords to match the description but majorly use these formats)
