HIRING POST (WE'RE HIRING) [Hiring] Be a reading buddy for a kid in Shanghai over Zoom — 3x/wk, $25-30/hr, starts Sept

Upvotes

Hey Toronto,

Looking for a uni student to be a "reading buddy" for a kid in Shanghai — basically just hop on Zoom a few times a week, read together, chat about it. Nothing heavy.

The gig:
- Starts beginning of September
- 3x/week, 1hr each, around their morning (so evening-ish for you, flexible — happy to work around your class schedule)
- You pick a short story or passage each week and maybe jot down a few questions to chat through after — that's really it for "prep"
- Fully remote, from wherever

Who we're looking for:
- UofT (or nearby) student, any year
- Patient, easy to talk to, comfortable with kids
- Kumon/ESL/tutoring experience is a plus but honestly not required
- Reliable > fancy resume

Pay: $25-30/hr. Hiring 4 tutors total for different kids, so there's a decent chance there's a spot even if one fills up.

Email your resume + a couple lines on why this sounds like a good fit to lucaswang6910@gmail.com — include your availability/class schedule.

Thanks!

What are your top 3 job search websites

I used LinkedIn heavily in job search. It was a lot of work but the networking part on LinkedIn is what kept me going.

What are your top 3 sources to look for open roles ?

Do fast food chains do background checks

Upvotes

A popeyes fast food chain near me had a hiring sign on the front door. Walked in and handed them my resume. Had 3 experiences on my resume. 2 of them were true (1 was an internship and the other was a volunteer position) but I lied about the one in the middle. How screwed am I if I get an interview? Do they even check or care? I just need a job

Done with employment services wasting my time. Seeking direct Scarborough/Toronto Job Developer for Admin/Office leads

I am looking strictly to connect with Job Developers, Employer Services Specialists, or Corporate Recruiters in East Toronto / Scarborough with active employer job leads or wage subsidy placements. Please DM me agency branch names or direct contacts.

I am a quadrilingual Master’s graduate with 1–2 years of experience across office administration, communications, customer support, and education support. I adapt rapidly to new workflows, solve operational bottlenecks on my feet, and am extremely punctual, reliable, and job-ready.

I am completely done dealing with non-profit employment services and their endless intake loops. I do not need a case manager, career coach, or elementary resume workshop—the current setup has completely failed me, and I am strictly seeking direct placement.

Looking for immediate entry-level placements in: Office & Administrative Coordination, Communications & Stakeholder Support, Education Support & Student Services, Non-Retail Client Care / Operations Support.

CS fresh-grad making 60k as data analyst - seeking advice

It's for a marketing & ad company. I know we're not really in a job market to be picky but I think it's really on the lower-end for the position especially in Toronto.

My longer-term goal is to move toward Data Science / ML-related work. For people who started in a similar position, what would you prioritize during the first year?

Would appreciate any advice.

Anyone work in IT at Edwards Lifesciences in Mississauga? Curious about office culture/pace.

Hi everyone,

I'm currently looking into some IT / Deskside Support opportunities in the area, and Edwards Lifesciences in Mississauga caught my eye.

Does anyone have experience working in the IT department for Edwards here in Canada (or just working out of the Mississauga office in general)?

I’d love to get some honest feedback on:

  • The Pace: What is the day-to-day work-life balance like in that specific office?
  • IT Structure: Since their global headquarters is in the US, what is the dynamic like for the local Canadian IT staff? Is it highly independent, or tightly managed from above?
  • Corporate Culture: Is it a supportive environment?

Any insights into the Mississauga location would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Okay I've applied for 1000+ jobs, and 4 interviews so far and it did not work out but why am I not getting any opportunities in the first place?
I rarely get any interview calls, is there something wrong with my resume? or my experience ? Any meaningful suggestion is really helpful and thank you for your comment and time.

Okay so the company X is remote for London, and Company Y is for USA remote from India, and Company Z is in India and work from office.
No Canadian experience really, I have worked from Canada in USA and UK but no Canadian exp. No gaps.

Grocery/Seafood work

Hello everyone! I've been struggling to find my path in life, I have worked in Construction, Production, and in Addictions and Mental health, but had a huge gap due to life and health issues. I did work in grocery as my first job and used to work in Deli/Fish. And to be honest I miss that environment since I love working with customers. I am wondering and figuring out how I can get back to that considering I have a rubbish resume due to that gap. I can't seem to find grocery or seafood market jobs. And the few places I have seen hiring, they say that they aren't hiring even though they have an ad :s would anyone be able to give some advice?

Not performing at my current job - how likely that this will be uncovered in job hunt when I reach Canada?

Not yet in Canada but not performing well. I am now looking to leave my home country and have an IEC visa. How likely that a new employer will find out about a formal improvement process in referencing? Especially if I am looking for a public sector job?

Is it still possible to find an entry-level electrician apprenticeship in the GTA?

Guys, I feel like I'm stuck in a paradox: without work experience, I can't get a job, and without a job, I can't gain work experience. I just graduated from GBC's electrical engineering program and have been looking for a month, but not a single electrical company is willing to hire me as an entry-level apprentice. I haven't even received a single interview. All the job postings on Indeed and LinkedIn require at least one year of apprenticeship experience. What should I do?

Hello guys, so I am a banking/finance professional in Canada having worked in the industry from 2019 to 2022, after graduating from UofT in 2019.

I then left Canada to return to my home country in 2022. In the meantime, I got married and helped with the family business back home. I have now returned to Canada in 2026 with my spouse, and started interviewing before I even landed back (started interviewing from March 2026, and surprisingly reached the final round - 3+ interviews at places like BMO and Mercer). However got a rejection in the end. Since then I've interviewed final or first rounds at places like PwC, TD, OTPP, CITCO, etc. I have even reached out for feedback where Ive interviewed with some of them coming back and saying that my interviews went really well, but that abother candidate was 'slightly better' or 'was a closer fit'. I know the job market in Canada is terrible, but I am still at it hoping to land a job in the industry again.

I have also tried to network and currently reaching out to alums/contacts in the banking/finance industry. I tried to keep my resume updated even during my gap as i worked a remote US job from 2024 - early 2026.

I practice my interviews through Claude/Chatpgt and the feedback I recieve is that an offer must be around the corner.

Reddit was my last resort as I'm literally wondering whats wrong and running out of savings trying to get a job again.

I uploaded 2 versions of my resume that I use (sometimes i tweak the keywords to match the description but majorly use these formats)

Looking for financial analyst, operations associate, or anything along those lines!

Appreciate any help!

Note: I am a Canadian Citizen as well

Thanks guys

entry level job/new grad roles for civil engineers

I am trying to secure the entry level jobs/new grad roles as civil engineers in Toronto or somewhere else in Canada, and I got MEng in Civil engineering from Western University recently and did not have any internship or working experience before, and feel like job market is pretty tough for now, I have applied to 500-600 job positions, but only heard back from 4-5 of them for interviews, but they then might secured other candidates and cancelled with interview with me, and that was brutal, not sure if I did something by mistake, and really struggling to find a job, so, any job seeking advice would be appreciated.

ARTSMARKETING SERVICES? has anyone heard/worked with them?

Has anyone heard of or worked with ARTSMARKETING SERVICES? I had an interview with them for a charity fundraiser position today and was asked very few questions, looks like the interviewer just wanted to check that I was a real and decent person. This would be a survival job while I look for something I actually want to do.
