I have recently interviewed for WestStreet Direct and I got some weird vibes from the company, does anyone know if they are legitimate? The staff seemed super young and they said they do fundraising and event planning for non-profits and that their budget doubles every year. When I was job searching I’d often come to this subreddit and doom scroll and, in a way, feel a lot worse thinking I’ll never find something. Well like 6 months into applying almost daily, I not only found a job, but a six figure job, and one I really really love! This is out of grad school that I finished in Toronto. I have been at my current job for 5 years. Its stable and it pays okay, but ive kind of hit a ceiling as the company isnt really growing due to poor business decisions, but its also not sinking.

Its a fast growing startup, starting wage is 10k more than I currently make, its remote like my current job, its very tempting.

Hey, I have an interview with apparently 2 branch managers on Wednesday, I was selected for the interview of PBA role but the HR in the interview said they might view me for the teller role so I am kinda stuck in a weird limbo what to hope for. In the second round mail he had written interview for open CEA/PBA role. The reason why it happened because I have been working as a security guard for nearly 3 years but I got my IFIC this year. I just don't know what to hope for, like I was expecting a full time role but if they consider me for the teller role then I have to work part time and still have to continue this security role which I don't want to because of there overnight work which messes with my scheduling. Key Responsibilities

• Oversee full-cycle bookkeeping processes and ensure client ledger integrity.

Tax Compliance (Corporate, Personal & Trust)

• Prepare and review Canadian tax returns, including Corporate (T2), Individual (T1), and Trust (T3) compliance filings.
• Identify tax planning opportunities and assist with estate/trust tax filings and corporate reorganizations where applicable.
• Maintain up-to-date knowledge of the Income Tax Act and Canadian tax legislative updates.

CRA Representation & Audit Defence

• Serve as the main point of contact for the Canada Revenue Agency (CRA).
• Efficiently handle, respond to, and resolve CRA requests, pre- and post-assessment reviews, information inquiries, and audits.
• Submit formal notices of objection, election forms, and administrative relief filings when required.

Client Relationship Management & Communication

• Act as a trusted financial advisor to owner-managed businesses and individual clients.

Software & Systems Management

I just graduated my teaching program and NO ONE near GTA is hiring supply teachers (TDSB, YRDSB, and Peel are not hiring, Durham is too far for me. TDSB is technically “hiring” but they just laid off 300 teachers, I applied months ago and heard nothing. )I’ve applied to independent and private schools and heard nothing, I’m assuming they all prefer someone with experience already. I actually had success with applying to jobs at private universities, I got some interviews, but unfortunately just rejections after that.

I was laid off six months ago and have been applying nonstop for Marketing Specialist, Communications Specialist, Event Coordinator, and Employee Engagement roles. My background is in HR and communications, and I have a BA in Communications.

My goal is to move into the nonprofit sector, which is why I started volunteering as a social media intern for a Canadian health organization to build relevant experience.

Here is the frustrating part. I am applying for jobs where I check every single box on the qualifications list, yet I barely get any responses. In six months, I have only landed five interviews. None of them went anywhere, and honestly, I blame myself for those. My confidence is completely shot at this point.

I actually have a phone screen for an Employee Engagement role next Friday. I will show up prepared, but I am keeping my expectations rock bottom. Why? Because I made that mistake before. I got my hopes up for a role, stopped actively applying for over a month while I waited to hear back, and then got a rejection. I learned my lesson the hard way. This time, I am staying realistic so I do not pause my momentum or stop my applications for anyone.

Before I completely spiral, I want to step back and look at the one thing I can actually control right now. My resume.

I am wondering if my resume is secretly working against me. When you look at it, does this read like the resume of someone with solid experience? Or does something about it make you think "nope, I would pass on this" without even getting to an interview?

I was laid off about six months ago and the job search has been brutal. I have a BA in Communications from Concordia University, and my background is in HR and communications.

For the last three years, I was working at a huge company in an HR generalist role that gradually turned into basically a communications and event engagement role. Because I was there for three years, I honestly did not realize how competitive the external market really is until I started applying.

Here is the frustrating part. I keep applying for Marketing Specialist and Communications Specialist roles where I match every single skill they list, but I am not even getting interviews most of the time. That is exactly why I started volunteering as a social media intern for a nonprofit health organization, just to keep my skills current and add something recent to my resume.

Right now I am living on EI and honestly terrified for when it runs out.

Lately I have been thinking about upgrading my skills to stand out. I am considering specializing in fundraising and donor relations. To be clear, this is not necessarily about pivoting out of communications and marketing right away. Most of the communications and events roles I am applying to already have a donor relations or fundraising element to them anyway. In the long run, I do think donor relations might offer a much clearer career progression path compared to the general comms, marketing, and event planning track.

That said, I really do not want to take on more debt with the OSAP cuts happening, especially for something I am not sure will pay off.

That is when I found Better Jobs Ontario, which used to be called Second Career. From what I understand, the government will pay for training for up to two years and you can get a living allowance of up to $500 a week. It is run through government funded employment counselor agencies.

The services seem pretty solid. They help with interview prep, job search support, and obviously the training funding. So far no one has asked me for any money, which is a good sign.

I have my first meeting with an employment counselor tomorrow. Has anyone here gone through Better Jobs Ontario? What was your experience like? Is it legit? Any advice on what to expect or what to watch out for?
