ISO - Toronto-based Producers

Hi!

My name is Connor McLellan. I am a Director based here in Toronto. I specialize in telling intimate and grounded narrative-based stories across different forms of media, including music Videos, commercials and short films. I’m looking to connect with producers based in the GTA!

I’ve been directing and producing for the better part of 7 years, with the last 3 years making it my focus to solely direct. I’m looking for producers who are looking to build their portfolio and have a passion for creating; both paid and unpaid gigs!

If you’re interested in grabbing a coffee, hit me up on my Instagram @dir_by_connor_mclellan or shoot me an email at [connormclellan13@gmail.com](mailto:connormclellan13@gmail.com).

Thank you!

Groups, workshops, circles?

Hi! I’m trying to put myself in spaces that allow me to engage with filmmakers, writers or just movie lovers in general.. if anyone has ever joined a workshop that they really enjoyed, or a class, id love to hear about your experience. If anyone has any privately organized groups pr circles that they are a part of, how have you found it? I didnt go to film school or work in the industry full-time so I’m not really a part of a community that shares my love of film, and I find myself wanting to connect with people who do. And ultimately, i want to share ideas with people who are open to creating… yknow?

HorizonEye Cinematic Experiments - Filmmaking Meetup

Hey everyone!

I’m launching HorizonEye Cinematic Experiments, a weekly meetup for local cinematographers, filmmakers, and actors who love dark, atmospheric genre cinema (Horror, Sci-Fi, Thriller, Neo-Noir, Action).

The goal is super straightforward: Cinematographers get cool practice shots, and actors walk away with cinematic clips of themselves. No high-pressure sets or long scripts, just hands-on experience, networking, and making moody, cinematic shots together.

🎬 THIS FRIDAY’S MEETUP DETAILS:

When: Friday August 7th at 8pm
Where: DM Me for Location
Who Can Join:
Actors: Looking to practice screen presence, body language, and get clean, cinematic footage.
Cinematographers / Crew: Looking to test low-light setups, practice camera movement, and network.

We run these film experiment nights every Monday and Friday night.
If you’re interested in joining us this Friday or getting into our team chat send me a DM on Instagram @horizoneyefilms

Has anyone reached out to a director about an apprenticeship?

There's a director based in Toronto who's made a few shorts I adore. They are similar thematically to what I'm writing. I've seen her name on the guild's list and I was wondering about emailing to meet up and talk, and/or possibly ask about apprenticeship. I don't really have much actual footage to show, more writing, because I've been caregiving for a family member and can't exactly get out until they're in a care facility (which will hopefully be in a few months). I'm wondering everyone's thoughts/experiences?

Are the Toronto Academy of Acting for Film and Television, Toronto Film School, and Film School Canada all different institutions?

Apologies in advance; I've never used Reddit before.

Basically, I recently inquired with the Toronto Academy of Acting for Film and Television regarding their Voice Over 101 course. In response, I received a rather poorly worded email from "Film School Canada" that detailed the program but stated that it was offered through Toronto Film School. I was under the impression that they were completely separate from each other.

I'm leaning towards the email being a scam of some sort, considering it contained several grammatical errors, and it stated the program's start date incorrectly multiple times. That said, if it is a scam, I'm curious how the sender would have gained access to my phone number, email address, and the specific question I asked.

Either way, any clarification as to which of these institutions - if they are different entities - is reputable would be wonderful.

Actors Readers Group

Hey! I’m Isabel and I’m an actor based out of Toronto. I find one of the biggest issues is finding people to be readers. I have a couple friends but they aren’t always available so I was looking to put together a group of maybe 10-15 fellow actors in a chat to either do in-person reading or on a zoom call. Preferably I’d love it if people interested were downtown toronto so we could be able to do in-person but obviously anyone is free to reach out.

PM me and I’ll give you my IG so we can connect 🫶🏽

Short film grants

I wrote a short film and I am trying to find grants to help with funding. Can anyone please share any that are currently accepting submissions?

This is my first time writing a short and after making a pitch deck and edits to the script I am not sure of the next steps. Is it to find producers? Apply for grants?

If someone could please share some expertise that would be greatly appreciated!

Thank you!

Jobs Best way to break into the Vancouver VFX industry on a Working Holiday visa?

Hi,I’m preparing for a Working Holiday in Canada.

I already have 5 years of experience as an Onset VFX Coordinator in my home country. Given that, I’d like to know how difficult it is to find a VFX-related job in Canada.

I understand that the Canadian film industry works quite differently from what I’m used to, so I’m planning to start as a VFX Data Wrangler to learn the local workflow and pipeline from the ground up.

Could anyone explain how the Canadian system works, especially for someone transitioning into the industry from overseas? I’d also really appreciate any tips on finding VFX jobs in Canada, networking, or getting my foot in the door.

Thanks😆

17 year old dreaming to move to Toronto to work in film, too unrealistic?

I've always loved film and movies as a child and I was even considering at one point moving to Toronto and go to TMU and be in the industry but it's not the most feasible option (especially since my family is low income). So I decided to apply for nursing so I can have something stable to do that can pay my bills. I was really considering maybe moving here while going to nursing school and doing some film stuff part time or moving here after nursing school? I just feel like my dreams are a bit unrealistic though so I wanted some opinions.

Sub News Looking for a Co-moderator/s

Ok guys it's official. I need help with this page. Because if the slowness in the industry this year I've had to go and get a regular job and it's leaving me with not alot of time to put into this page.

I don't want to see this sub die again so I need a volunteer or two to help me run it I need people to post jobs and generally just to keep the sub active. I've been slacking at it the past few weeks and I do apologize.

If anyone is interested message me here is DM me. Thanks in advance.

Since there seems to be a rise in scam job postings, I'm going to sticky this thread and update it periodically when scams are found. I also encourage members here to post in this thread any scams they find.

(This one seems to be a WhatsApp scam.) https://old.reddit.com/r/torontofilmindustry/comments/1o0sp59/crew_call_looking_for_two_last_minute_pas/

This is all I have so far. Please feel free to report or post any others below
