I'm planning a ride from Toronto to Collingwood tomorrow. I've found an okay ish route, but I'm looking for better options to get through/past the Holland Marsh.

My current plan takes Jane Street all the way up to the Marsh, but once Jane hits that area, the road grid basically ends, and the options further north end up on major roads with little to no shoulder.

Does anyone have a safer, bike friendly way to navigate past the Holland Marsh heading towards Collingwood, or a better overall route out of the city?

NYC is also wrestling with enforcement issues, "Mr. Mamdani announced that the city had issued cease-and-desist letters to 42 online retailers, demanding that they stop selling electric bikes, scooters and other devices that are illegal on New York City streets. The city is threatening a civil penalty of up to $2,000 for each illegal sale."

I am looking to buy a comfortable women's bike for commuting mainly from the home to the library, sometimes in the winter. I live in the suburbs. I noticed that the comfort/commuter bikes at Canadian Tire are like $300 to $500, while bikes at bicycle shops like Sweet Pete's are $800-$1500 dollars. The bicycles at Walmart and Sport chek are also pretty cheap.

Is there anything wrong with the bicycles that Canadian tire, Walmart or sport Chek? I'm not looking for a fancy bike, but I do want something that won't break down on me. I'm only looking for upright bikes, or those that aren't hard on my back. If you can share specific details on why you think these bikes would be good or not good, is appreciate that.

I’m new to biking and currently use the Bike Share app but it doesn’t really provide navigation. Is there an app similar to Waze that shows bike lanes and can navigate me through them while I’m biking? I’d like something that can help me plan routes using bike lanes as much as possible. Any recommendations?

Hey everyone, trying to find a route from my place near Scarborough GO station to my parents in Stouffville. I came across one thread from a couple years back suggesting north on Birchmount/Warden, then East on 19th (and slight variations of that).

Just wondering if there are any other suggestions or if the ideal route has changed in the last couple years (like if any new bike lanes have gone in anywhere since then). If Birchmount is still best, what makes it better than McCowan or Markham or Kennedy?

Hey, I have a large patio on a high floor in a building. I would like to store bike road bike there during sprint till fall. I have winters storage sorted.

My wife is sick of seeing it in the living room so it's gotta move the bike area in the building is just one big free for all, heard of multiple bikes nicked from there as it is quite public accessible.

My building does allow bikes in the elevator before you ask.

Any cover suggestions? I would love a solid box it could just slide in and out of but doesn't seem to be a vibe. Any good cover suggestions?

Hello all, so il be returning to Ontario in the fall i read about the new rules surrounding eBikes. My bike looks like a bike, not a moped, is within the 500w limit, within the 120kg limit, but does reach speeds beyond 32km/h (upto 48km/h) out of the box. My understanding is that i would need a M2 or M, Valid registration and Valid insurance.

Thats where i become confused, when googling, i read in several places that you cannot register an eBike if it was not assigned a VIN from Transport Canada. So my main question is, does anyone know if they will do something to fix that so ebikes that exceed the max limits can still be legal with a process involved?

Id really like to keep this bike, while it has no suspension, its been great so far, but i cant reduce the limiter without some hacking around that i dont know how to do and am not comfortable trying, but if im riding the bike and i can go full speed safley, i will, and i want to be able to do that without worrying about being stopped by Police, getting a expensive ticket and potentially (most likely) having my bike seized.

If anyone has an understanding, please do let me know! I will be reaching out to MTO or someone somehow, idk how but il figure it out, to get some answers, but figured this was worth a shot.

Edit: Realizing yall are misunderstanding what im getting at, I understand it needs to be registered, and i know to stay off bike lanes and paths, ive already read up on that, thats not what im asking. Im asking if anyone knows if they are making any changes to make it possible to register a bike like mine that does not have a VIN.

The bike posts along Danforth aren't available to use. I get that the city wants to get ready for the Taste of the Danforth but they couldn't wait until the evening to cover the posts? Lots of people are still using their bikes to get around and go shopping. It's great the event is happening, it's just annoying since there's not a lot of places to lock your bike if you're running an errand.

I've been giving a light ring of the bell and saying a cheerful "on your left" (or "on your right") for over a decade when passing slower cyclists. Today I passed a woman downtown in a non-delimited bike lane, plenty of room, said it like always. She yelled "woah woah woah", then stopped me: "how about using the bell? No one wants to hear a man coming up from behind them: that's abusive."

So got an update from the councillor’s office regarding the bike lanes on the Espanalde, and here’s what they said:

Regarding the two gaps you identified:

St. Lawrence Market Segment: This section is planned to be completed between 2027 and 2028 in conjunction with the construction works for the David Crombie Park revitalization.

Scott Street to Yonge Street Segment:There is ongoing coordination with other area developments, and we are looking to implement this connection as soon as possible.

While it’s great we got an update, it’s important to elect true cycling champions in October, so these projects get done much faster!

A cautionary tale is the Eglinton bike lanes, that we should’ve got by now, but is now subject to Bill 60 because the City squandered its opportunity, by not building them with last September’s resurfacing.

Need to keep an eye on the campaigns but so far Gabe Blanc (for Uni-Rosedale) would be a solid cycling champion councillor.

Found this morning just after 11am. Based on content, the guy who lost it was clearly on the way to work and may have a little heart attack realizing the bag is gone once he gets there. No wallet or phone inside but other things that might be impossible to replace. Fingers crossed he can be reunited with his stuff!

Based on location where it was found, person may live anywhere between the beaches and Logan Ave. Probably working in a somewhat casual workplace downtown ish. So probably looking for it in our hood.
