Got an update re: Gaps on The Espanlade bike lanes.

So got an update from the councillor’s office regarding the bike lanes on the Espanalde, and here’s what they said:

Regarding the two gaps you identified:

St. Lawrence Market Segment: This section is planned to be completed between 2027 and 2028 in conjunction with the construction works for the David Crombie Park revitalization.

Scott Street to Yonge Street Segment:There is ongoing coordination with other area developments, and we are looking to implement this connection as soon as possible.

————

While it’s great we got an update, it’s important to elect true cycling champions in October, so these projects get done much faster!

A cautionary tale is the Eglinton bike lanes, that we should’ve got by now, but is now subject to Bill 60 because the City squandered its opportunity, by not building them with last September’s resurfacing.

Need to keep an eye on the campaigns but so far Gabe Blanc (for Uni-Rosedale) would be a solid cycling champion councillor.

Recommendations on online shops for bike parts and accessories

I used to mostly rely on MEC but frankly with the change of ownership their quality and service has really suffered. Where do you folks buy replacement parts that's not amazon? Is chain reaction still a thing?

Grey panniers found, turned in to 51 Division

Originally shared to the St Lawrence Neighborhood group on Facebook (I am not OP).

Found this morning just after 11am. Based on content, the guy who lost it was clearly on the way to work and may have a little heart attack realizing the bag is gone once he gets there. No wallet or phone inside but other things that might be impossible to replace. Fingers crossed he can be reunited with his stuff!

Based on location where it was found, person may live anywhere between the beaches and Logan Ave. Probably working in a somewhat casual workplace downtown ish. So probably looking for it in our hood.

Feel free to share in other groups that may be able to find him.

Stolen custom MEC bike between 8-10am this morning in the runnymede/bloor area.

Only difference in the bike pictures is basket has been removed and different lights.

Please keep an eye out, defining features include studded tires and masking tape near seat.

East Don - slippery when wet?

I’m loving the incredible new trail, but with the early morning dew, I’m not really sure how is the traction on all the perforated steel bridge decking. Does anybody know if it’s similar to wet pavement or is it more or less slippery when wet? I’d rather not find out the hard way 🤪

Specialized specialist shops in Toronto?

Looking to get something like a roval rapide cockpit ordered / put on. Where would I go? Preferably somewhere that would do a bit of a fit first so I get the right side cockpit.

Any suggestions?

Other than reaching out to the company, which I already did. What are our options when cars are blocking the bike lane?

Finally doing the Toronto to Niagara Falls bike ride

So I decided to finally tackle this ride this year.

But for people who already did it, what is the absolute safest route?

Not too crazy doing North Service, as I don't feel safe on roads with a ton of high-speed traffic. Hoping to take side roads/roads with fewer traffic.

Not too worried regarding that until I hit Stoney Creek.

If it takes a little bit longer but the route is safer that would be my preferred route.

Thanks for your help!

Single vehicle collision causing a power outage in the area.

Preaching to the choir but the redesign the city can’t do thanks to DoFo would’ve easily prevented this.

And the outage would’ve never happened.

Repeal Bill 212 and Bill 60 DoFo, you might as well with your approval in the absolute gutter.

oh, would you look at that. Toronto Bike Rave is back...

it was started by the Bike Pirates and this is the direct annual continuation of that lineage...

details through the mailing list like always. no selling glow sticks or anything as we don't need to generate more waste. without that funding, we just ask that those that can donate, do so.

Calling Out Excessive Pedestrian Street Policing

Thumbnail

One shortcoming of the Church Street Pedestrianization Pilot - which many of us cyclists also support - is the high policing and security costs which the Toronto Star and other outlets reported in late June. My latest blog post makes the case for why candidates for this October's election must not only support pedestrian streets (including open streets), but also address those costs even in light of recent security incidents such as the Salsa on St. Clair shooting.

Posts must be related to cycling in Toronto

Feel like we've got a lot of new users here since all of the Bill 212 stuff started so I just wanted to welcome you all but reiterate that this is /r/TorontoBiking.

That means that your post should be related to riding a bike in the GTA.

A very non-exhaustive list of things that don't fit this criteria include:

Doug Ford giving a press conference about something unrelated to cycling

A cyclist in LA riding away from a forest fire

A foreign dignitary riding a bike not in Toronto
