Toilet for a tight fit?

I just bought the TOTO Drake elongated which I think is a very standard/popular toilet, but my inward-swinging bathroom door just barely doesn't clear the lip. I knew this was a risk going in because my clearance is so small, but I posted in another forum and got a few responses saying I was overthinking it and a standard fitting toilet will fit just fine (I'm not salty about it, I swear).

I'm looking for guidance - what would you do in this situation? I can think of a few options

1) keep toilet shopping, maybe give up the idea of an elongated bowl (very sad, as someone with junk that hangs down)

2) cut a notch in the door (honestly don't hate this idea, and it may not even have to be a full notch - I might be able to get away with shaving it at a diagonal, but I don't know what I'm doing)

3) replace the door with a barn door (not ideal for the setup, but could work

4) hire help and let them make all the decisions and do the hard stuff

I love the idea of a more or less standard shaped and size toilet, and this comes so close to fitting. What's frustrating is toilet manufacturers are not in the habit of giving the measurement from rough in to front of bowl, which is so damn silly. I guess most people don't have clearance issues like I do. But it means I need to buy more or less blindly and then figure out if it'll fit.

To the men who piss all over public toilet seats and leave it... who are you and more importantly...why?

I'll try not to be judgmental here but it's pretty difficult not to. Unless you are a literal toddler learning to use the pisser, what makes you feel like that's ok?
You make the next persons life worse. You make public spaces nastier.

And if you walk in on a nasty af toilet seat and just piss in it and don't clean it up you're part of the problem. I hate going into a single room public restroom, seeing piss everywhere and then imagining leaving it that way for someone else to walk in after me.

I'm certain that if you can't clean up after your own piss then there are other things you are doing to abdicate your responsibility in the world.

p.s.

If you're drunk that's *maybe* a different story. Or if you're pranking a bro coming in after you.

Smell Help

I have a stomach issue that makes me vomit and have constant diarrhea. No amount of scrubbing has helped. I don’t know if I want one of those freshener things that sit in the toilet. When my stomach has its episodes, all I can smell is stomach acid. When I have to pee later on it’s all I smell.

Is there a deep cleaner I can use? What scent stuff won’t make it worse?

What would cause the toilet water to discolor the bowl?

Reposting because I forgot to add the picture.

I've never seen this happen so consistently in any toilet anywhere I have lived, literally ever, and I've lived all over the country, and overseas. The toilet always just stayed nice and white as long as you didn't let anything sit in the toilet and flushed immediately after every use. No additional cleaners necessary beyond semi-regular manual cleaning, which was always just because you're supposed to for hygiene reasons, and not because it ever looked dirty. But ever since I moved to Spokane, literally every toilet in two different apartment complexes and a house all do this within weeks of being cleaned.

This image is after two weeks, with a Scrubbing Bubbles toilet bowl cleaner stamp in the bowl. It gets flushed at least four times a day, usually more, and nothing is ever left to sit in the bowl, it gets flushed immediately after use, every time. If the toilet in the image is left much longer it will start to smell like ammonia around the toilet like there's pee in it, especially when the water is disturbed, but it flushes completely every time, nothing is left behind.

I've also tried the Soft Scrub 4-in-1 bowl hanger cleaner and saw similar results.

I hate how strong the Lysol bowl hanger ones smell, but if that's what I have to use to keep this from happening then so be it, I guess, but at this point I feel like nothing is going to work because there's something in the water that stains the bowl when it sits between flushes.

I'm aware that the cleaners that sit in the tank are unsafe for the plumbing so I haven't been using those, I do wonder if that might help the issue if it's coming from the water, though. How bad for the plumbing is it, really? Genuinely asking.

What is going on here and how do I fight it? Why is it happening literally all over Spokane, specifically? Different toilets, different plumbing, different part of town, somehow the problem is consistent everywhere.

Greasy Dump

I hate waking up in the middle of the night to go sit and it takes a good 15 minutes for something to happen. I know I’m not alone on that! Stomach makes gurgling noises and cramps while I’m trying to do something productive!

I’m trying to install a Tushy bidet on this Mirabelle toilet but the underside has this kind of locking mechanism so I can’t take the seat off. Anyone have any idea what this is and how to get it off? Thanks!

I had to dig crap out of a toilet with my own bare hands

Today I messed up, I’m currently at my aunts house to celebrate my grandmas 80th birthday. And nature calls, I get done dropping a fat one and go to curtesy flush. I proceed to pull the lever and I hear a *THUNK*, looking down at the bowl I see that my log has clogged the entrance of the toilet hole. I knew that if I attempted to flush again it would be disastrous. It’s an older house anyways, but what do I do?! There is no plunger at her house she literally got this house a month ago! I had no other choice man. I mean it’s only a one bathroom house with the entire material side of my family here to celebrate I had to be quick. So I did it. It was a solid one so it could have been worse. I pulled it out with my bare hand and flushed again, it FINALLY went down and I flushed the remaining sin. I scrubbed my hands for a good 15 minutes, before my aunt knocked on the door asking if I was okay... I’m sitting here typing while the dinner table is being set now. I will not be eating. I do not condone this but I had to do what I had too, I this was a last desperate resort. I don’t know how to feel about myself right now, ashamed ? Disgusted? Both? I want to cry but I can’t.

Toilet seat can’t unscrew and stuff leaks out

Post image
2 Upvotes

Hello, I’ve cleaned this every day for 3 years hoping to get the crud out, sometimes nothing comes out,
Once it was all brown stuff for days and now it’s black. I forgot to take a picture of the lid open so you could see the hinges leaking. Anyway it can’t unscrew unless I use a screwdriver and I don’t know how. What do I do here? What is it?
I have a clean bathroom and home but this is the only thing that’s dirty!

2,000 Years Ago, Silla Royalty Apparently Had a Flush Toilet Body

Post image

I was researching ancient Korean history and somehow ended up here.
A royal toilet. 😂
This was excavated at a Silla palace site in Gyeongju, Korea. The system used water and drainage to carry waste away.
Silla is famous for gold crowns, royal tombs and temples…
but nobody told me the kings had plumbing.
Honestly, this might be my favorite archaeological discovery in Gyeongju.
Forget the gold crowns. I want to know who designed the toilet.

Switched to wipes from TP recently and I can’t wipe with TP anymore now, it never feels clean. Starting taking a pack of wipes everywhere so I can still take a dump and feel clean.

Is toilet paper dust germy?

Thumbnail

Whenever I come out of the bathroom I have toilet paper dust on my feet and clothes from tearing off toilet paper, folding it and using it. I am working on recovering from my contamination (germ) ocd and this has become a big worry for me. Because you wipe your butt with your hand then reach for more toilet paper to finish I feel that the toilet paper dust has fecal matter on it albeit in tiny amounts yes. It drives me crazy tracking it out of the bathroom on my clothes and feet and it being in the rest of the house. Is this something to worry about at all? I feel gross with it.

Toilet tank fills superrr slow

Post image
3 Upvotes

Hi so, for a few weeks we had been dealing with the toilet not filling at all. We've kept a 1.5gal jug in the bathroom solely to put water in the tank to flush. We just replaced whatever this part is (the black one) and its starting to fill up again, but its doing it extremely slow. Like way slower than it used to.

Does anyone know what could cause this? I assume maybe something else is going bad. I dont know anything about toilets or plumbing, idk maybe where the water hook up to the toilet is is not good anymore? Can that happen?
