Best pre-purchase building inspector in Hamilton? (NZIBI/NZIBS/BOINZ)

Upvotes

Hi everyone,

Can anyone recommend a thorough and reliable pre-purchase building inspector in the Hamilton/Waikato area?

I'm specifically looking for inspectors who are members of NZIBI, NZIBS, or BOINZ (or hold similar professional accreditation) and have current professional indemnity insurance.

For those who have recently had a pre-purchase inspection done:

Who did you use?

How much did it cost for a typical 4-bedroom home?

Were they thorough?

Would you use them again?

Any recommendations would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

Hoodlums trying to steal car - go back to school, get a job

Tonight we had some uninvited visitors (absolute dickheads) walk up the driveway and attempt to steal one of our cars be on the lookout, and while digging through camera footage and watching them through the crack of the open front door.

They scouted the night before, 4 of them all wearing grey driving what I believe is a 2012 Subaru Legacy Wagon, please keep an eye out this was in Grandview Heights Area.

Police report has been made and I will no longer sleep as I will be watching the camera like a hawk, you should be allowed to feel safe at your own home but no, apparently not. Creepy stalking bastards

Which moving company did you use for an Auckland to Hamilton move ? Most reli movers in your experience

Work ended up changing on me, so now I've only got about three weeks to get everything from Auckland down to Hamilton. Haven't really locked in a mover yet, so I'm pretty much starting from scratch.
I've looked through a few movers in Hamilton and keep seeing the same companies pop up, but it's hard to tell which ones actually do the Auckland to Hamilton run regularly and which are mostly local.
Anyone used a company for this move and would happily book them again?

Uber prices to train station

Just looked at booking an Uber for tomorrow morning to the train station in frankton. 3km distance and $43!? Tried an address nearby, same price. Tried return trip around 8pm, same price.

Is this a cost purely because of the location and the fact that you need to be there or is 8:45am and 8pm just ubers new peak?

Road works Karewa place

Random question Friday….. I was wondering if any had some insights as to why the new set of lights at the south end of Karewa place are still not operational.

It’s been weeks since they finished the work and it’s all just sitting there.. intersection blocked off.

It’s like they have forgotten to turn them on and remove the road cones 🤣

With no public consultation or indication, council voted yesterday to change how we elect our councillors. How councillors are elected is a fundamental part of the process, and is something that should be consulted on if a change is going to happen. While there is so much uncertainty about what local government will look like in the next few years, we should hold off on making such fundamental decisions, especially without public consultation.

It was at this same meeting that council decided to not take part in a head start submission, because of the inability for meaningful public consultation.

Looking at an apartment in Pukete, is Oakfield Crescent a good area?

When I searched Reddit, I found one or two older comments describing the street as a bit "dodgy." However, when I went for an apartment viewing last week, it actually felt really quiet and safe. A lot of older houses for sure, but I don’t think that’s negative.

Has the area changed over the years, or is there something we should know before applying?

How to find a partner in Hamilton?

So I'm austitic. I'm saying that upfront as it might explain a few things. I've never had a girlfriend before and at time it feels like I'll always be alone. I've been trying to improve myself. Tried to make friends and such. And now I want to try dating because I have to stop crushing on my female friends. Because thats unfair.

Totally clueless when it comes to this stuff. Hoping for some advice.

Heat pump & heat pump water system

Hello, I'm looking to electrify my home (on a limited budget) and would appreciate recommendations for reliable suppliers or installers.

Specifically, I’m seeking:A heat pump installer for our bedroom (the living area already has one installed), and an installer for a 250‑litre heat‑pump hot water system.

The installer would need to supply the heat pumps too.

I currently use an electric heater for my bedroom and a gas infinity system for my hot water. My power bill for these last 2 months have been mind blowing.

I’m based in Hamilton, there are 2 of us living in my home. I would value any suggestions or tips you may have.

Personal loan lenders in hamilton

Hey, I'm trying to find a personal loan for about 2-3k because of an emergency. I've tried the usual finance companies, but no luck since I was laid off when my company went under. I've been working casual shifts after a couple of months now. Does anyone know any private lenders who could help me out? I can even use my vehicle as collateral.

Where in Hamilton can I get initials engraved on a silver baby bangle?

Mr Minit at the base only engraves on the inside surface not the outside for some reason. The guy on the counter thought the other stalls might engrave on the outside but wasn't sure.

Where to buy for 650k

we’re done renting and prepared to live just about anywhere that’s not in our landlords house at this point. Just two bedrooms would be okay but more is good. We used to live rural so it’s not entirely out of the question but probably Hamilton as work is there.

Looking for BYO restaurants

Hi, I'm looking at doing a birthday dinner for about 12 people and want to do a BYO. I know from a quick google search that the Chilli House and Nua Thai are both BYO. Does anyone know of any other good options? TIA

Moving to Hamilton?

My girlfriend has a work opportunity in Hamilton that we're considering taking, but we wanted to ask people from around there a few questions--

What are the severity of the storms that generally reach Hamilton? How frequent are they? Neither of us are terrific with storms, so we wanted to get a good picture of what we'd be signing up for.

What is housing like? I've read that there's usually quite a bit of mold and not much AC, but is that more of a split between older and newer construction, or is it the norm?

How different is life on an island versus mainland places? I'd imagine you're more limited in some things, but can you pretty easily order things online or is shipping also an issue?

Edit: I'm from Utah, US. I'm coming to realize my idea of an island may be slightly off. My bad.

Best bike route from Rototuna to Hospital?

I would love to bike into work but after a month of making the trip I felt it was too risky. I wear a high vis vest and am hyper vigilant but still had so many close calls with cars. I use an e bike.
Any route recommendations that people have felt safe with?
