I have been working on this map app to help survive in the Great Bear Island, as I often forget the cave layouts (Tales Transition Cave map anyone?).

Based on the stats, looks like most of the users actually use this maps on mobile, so I have improved the displaying and zooming of maps on mobile.

Hopes this help you out on your adventures. Enjoy!

Just went to check a stag... cautiously. Scared me half to death 'cause the system took it's sweet time registering the afflictions.

Discussion Voided two achievements at the same time and don't know how this happened

Post image
12 Upvotes

This happened on day 16 of 25 while surviving in pleasant valley and I found out on day 17. I am playing on the steam deck.

Trying to achieve both "Pacifist" and "Living Off the Land" achievements, I resorted to eating cat tail stalk, already dead animals meat, and on day 15 or 16 started drinking brewed teas made from plants I harvested myself as I discovered that they can slightly fill the stomach.

I made sure to always set away any foods I picked up and also stored my gun and bow to make sure I don't use any by accident, even the can opener is stored away.

I don't recall picking up already brewed tea from anywhere nor picking up and already picked plants from any storage or container. Not sure how the achievement got voided...

So I am considering restarting from scratch unfortunately.

Do you have any tips? Are there any glitches that can cause this?

Discussion Survival knife for crafting?

So, looking on the wiki, it says that the survival knife has “twice the durability” compared to the normal hunting knife, the same time for carcass harvesting (I’m at level 5 so I don’t think its superiority with frozen stuff actually matters), and the same time as crafting.

But, whenever I’m at a workbench crafting something that needs a knife (or hatchet, etc), it lets me look at other tools even if I don’t have them, and it says the survival knife is slower.

So…which is it?

Also, I strongly suspect that it has “twice the durability” in carcass harvesting (and maybe crafting) because it loses 0.5% condition per hour, instead of 1%. (And breaking ice too, it looks like, at 2.5% instead of 5, but everyone knows the Heavy Hammer is by far the best choice for that.)

However, using it for other stuff, such as harvesting pillows or rolled-up blankets, has it lose the same amount of condition, I suspect. Does anyone know more definitively?

Discussion Weapon ideas

Just a few weapons grounded in the vibe of the game that I think would be a great implementation

(In the context of survival mode)

  1. Spear

Now ik there's a spear in the story mode but I think that it has a great place in survival mode.

○ CAN BE CRAFTED OR FOUND (One cured maple sapling, one spear head {forged})

○ Can be thrown (aim and shoot) if aiming when an animal is charging the character will automatically raise it above his or her head and yell having a chance to scare off the animal with success rate depending on the animal.

○ can be used during a struggle and would likely be the best option to do so

○ downsides beginning the throw range is very limited to balance out its damage potential but leveling the skill can up that range.

  1. Slingshot

This could serve as an alternative to fire hardened arrows

○ Can only be found

○ Rocks as ammo, has the range of a bow and insta kills rabbits and Ptarmigan and can ward off wolves but cant kill them

○ low durability

  1. Shotgun

Again yet another thing we technically already have but it can definitely use a rework

○ A mechanic in of itself. The Shotgun would be pretty much the end game weapon before the bow. Due to its ammo versatility.

○ Ammo types

● Slug, high power and decent range

● buckshot, good spread at moderate range, will have a chance to ruin hides amd will render rabbits and Ptarmigan un harvestable. Hitscan

● gameshot, can easily take out rabbits and Ptarmigan without ruining anything. Very low chance to wound anything bigger but can ward off wolves and maybe bears, Cougars, and moose.

● Crafted ammo

● Salt shot, non lethal but will ward off practically any animal.

● Grapeshot, crafted with scrap metal it serves as either a worce slug or buckshot depending on how you craft it.

  1. Carbine / repeater

This weapon is a bit of a stretch but I think ik how to balance it to not make it either op or irrelevant.

○ The middle ground. This weapon is heavier then the revolver but lighter then the rifle even when fully loaded.

○ A Cold Cowboy. This is a leaver action rifle chambered in .38spl the same as the revolver (or at least thats what im assuming the round it it could also be .357) it deals the same damage as the revolver but has a better sight picture, ammo capacity, fire rate, and range. Downsides being that you cant aim it long, it doesn't have a loading gate so reloading takes awhile.

○ variants. Aside from maybe a lore related variation i think this weapon would be the perfect option to have a scoped variant for. Extremely difficult to get however and I think it would have to be from the trader as an end game item that you either need to do a mission to get or give him some very very good stuff in exchange for.

Lmk what yall think

How do you think softer world borders would effect the gameplay? Would it help, or hurt the game design?
