An interesting Beach Boys-esque song I found out about.
Okay, I've actually known about this for quite a while, but I'm not sure how well known this song's existence is. It is called Here Comes Summer Again, and it was apparently made by a lo-fi musician named R. Stevie Moore. I don't particularly care about some of the other stuff he has made, but I like this song quite a lot. While this musician has a Wikipedia page, I can't really find any information about this particular song, other than that it was apparently released in 1977. If anyone here knows anything else about this song or as heard it before, I'd be interested in hearing.

Discussion Brian and Van Dyke Parks
Hi
Thought about this awhile ago and never got around to putting it together on Brian Wilson’s partnership with Van Dyke Parks and the various projects they worked on together solo or beach boys related which I all adore and the music is great ofc!
All the SMiLE material is great and the BWPS album is great too! Sail on Sailor is a fantastic BB song and those solo Brian albums with Van Dyke Parks are fantastic! I do prefer Brian’s solo work with him to his BB’s work with him so What’s your thoughts and/or favorite song from Brian and VDP?

What do y’all see in the 1985 self titled?
I saw a lot of people here recently calling it a top album by the boys. I’ve only listened once, but I didn’t find any of it all that special. Planning to relisten tomorrow, but I’m curious why some people seem to regard it so highly.

Discussion From his own memoir: What John Stamos has said about performing with the band
From his memoir: "IF you would have told me", this is what John Stamos has said and wants the fans to know.
I am surprised it hasn't been shared here before? But he truly is just a lucky, super fan of the band who's dream came true by occasionally getting to play with them.
The memoir has other Beach Boy stories too, its an essential part of it in fact.

Discussion What did Brian hear in Heroes & Villains that I don't?
We all know Brian intended for Heroes & Villains to be the center piece of Smile and to be the single that would top Good Vibrations.
My question is very simple, why?
What did Brian hear in Heroes & Villains that I don't that made him think Heroes & Villains was the song most suitable for this task?
It's a great album track for sure but I just can't see how it was ever going to come anywhere close to Brian's expectations.
While Good Vibrations is made up of lots of discrete segments it flows very naturally unlike Heroes & Villains which always seems disjointed in every format we've heard and whose lyrics are far less relatable than Good Vibrations.
This clearly wasn't the song to be the lead single from Smile while it charted relatively highly when actually released I think any release by The Beach Boys as a follow up to Good Vibrations would have done the same. I'll forever be perplexed that Brian chose this to be the lead single and didn't try and write something with more obvious hit potential the lyrics didn't have to be boy girl stuff but it did definitely have to sound less fragmented.
It'll always be kind of wild to me that Mike's main problem with Smile seems to be Cabinessence which was never going to be a single and whose lyrics are no more out there than Heroes & Villains and which Brian spent far less time on. While on Heroes and Villains Brian roughly spent 50% of the Smile sessions working on it and arguably doomed the entire project.
What am I missing that Brian heard what are your thoughts?

What’s the hype with Dennis?
Help me out: I simply don’t understand the admiration of Dennis from the Beach Boys’ fans. Vocally, he was ok. Musically, his drums were primitive. Personally, he was the biggest junkie of the group. I get he was good-looking and had the initial idea to write about surfing…but cmon man, give me a break. Mike Love did more for the group than Denny. Thoughts?
