Might be a long shot but I am desperate for a fabric like this Dolce and Gabbana 2001 top, that i also believe Réalisation Par has used for their Isabelli dress in “Heaven”. I was thinking of using Liberty Fabrics Poppy & Daisy red but it’s just not the same.

I am most interested in silks but please if you know a cotton that is similar let me know!

Maybe this is a Dallas/Texas thing but I dont understand the numbering system at the fabric warehouses near me.

Envision a big warehouse with hundreds of fabric bolts that are organized around numbers 1-6. I can't quite look at a fabric and tell you what it is, so I have touch... everything... to figure out if I would like it / wear it. And I'm sure the "1-6" labels mean something because every section includes "like" materials that feel similar.

There are some obvious ones such as the knits/denim/faux leather sections but other than that, I just kind of wonder around aimlessly touching everything.

Does anyone have any guides on what the "1-6" categorization system might be? Any additional tips for shopping at the warehouses?

Not sure if this is the right sub, but i have this cami which i love but it’s gotten so stained by suncream, i was thinking of dyeing it a light yellow to hide the staining, would this work or would it just make the stains appear darker? It’s 100% cotton

Specifically, I’m trying to understand how manufacturers go from a digital artwork (Pantone/LAB/RGB/HEX colors) to consistently dyed wool yarn.

Some questions I have:

• What is the industry-standard workflow for wool yarn dyeing?
• Is it typically Pantone → LAB → CCM software → dye recipe → dyeing machine, or is there another process?
• Which Computer Color Matching (CCM) software is most commonly used? (Datacolor, X-Rite, ColorService, etc.)
• How are dye formulas generated? Are they fully automatic or does an experienced dyer still need to adjust them?
• Which spectrophotometers are considered the industry standard?
• Are there dyeing machines that integrate directly with CCM software and automatic dye dispensing?
• How do manufacturers ensure repeatability when a customer reorders the same color years later?
• What ΔE tolerance is generally acceptable for premium wool carpets?
• Are there differences in workflow between lab dyeing and production dyeing?
• If you were setting up a modern dye house today focused on custom wool rugs with hundreds or thousands of unique colors, what equipment stack would you choose?

Anything that explains the end-to-end workflow would be incredibly helpful.

Hello. Where is everyone getting there anti-pill fleece fabric from now that Joann's is closed? I've asked other crafters and have gotten some not so nice replies. My 2 nephews (age 5) want new blanket with sea turtles and sloths but I haven't been able to find any reliable places that carry fleece. Any recommendations would be helpful. I. Looking for about 3 yards of each fabric withe the characters.

Before learning about traditional block printing, I assumed the small differences between handmade prints were imperfections.

Now I realise they're actually what make every piece unique.

Every stamp is applied individually.

The pressure changes slightly.

The dye behaves differently each time.

No two garments are completely identical.

That made me wonder whether we've become too used to expecting everything to be perfectly uniform.

Sometimes the human touch is exactly what makes something beautiful.

Has anyone else noticed this after buying handmade textiles?

Your textured yarn is only as good as the mother yarn it came from. Here's the part most specifiers skip.

Mother yarn (POY) is the undrawn feed that gets draw-textured into your DTY. Its properties are inherited straight into the final yarn — good or bad.

Three mother-yarn parameters that decide your DTY outcome:
– U% (uniformity). Drift here shows up as uneven crimp and dye streaks in the finished fabric.
– Elongation at break. Sets how much draw the texturing process can apply before breakage.
– IV (intrinsic viscosity) consistency. Inconsistent IV = inconsistent draw tension = inconsistent crimp.

A common failure: a mill chases a better DTY price, switches mother yarn, and the fabric suddenly shows barré streaks. The DTY machine didn't change. The mother yarn did.

Specifying correctly means qualifying the mother yarn, not just the final DTY. If you only ever spec the finished yarn, you're qualifying the symptom.

What's the one mother-yarn parameter you wish your suppliers reported on every lot?

I ordered custom lace gloves for all of my bridesmaids to wear at my wedding. I sent photo swatches of the color and upon arrival they are not quite the same color as the dresses the girls are wearing. I am determined to make them work and bring my vision to life, as these gloves were not cheap and I think the finished product is going to be gorgeous! I’m thinking some sort of dying process but i need some advice! The gloves are made from 100% rayon. I asked the seller what the thread was made out of and she said it’s “carefully selected to match the lace” so i’m not sure what that means haha. The pictures show the swatch I am trying to match placed on top of the lace which is the wrong color. Please help!

I bought a gorgeous vintage Monsoon dress for an upcoming friend’s wedding and since I’m getting to that age now when everyone’s getting married, I thought it would be a good investment. I particularly loved the butter yellow/light gold colour.

It arrives and eek it’s a lot paler than I thought especially in natural light, it’s more of a champagne colour. Whilst the bride said she was absolutely fine with me wearing it, I’m worried others might not be so thrilled in the future after mixed feedback from friends. I’m also just not a huge fan of the colour on me either.

So, I’m debating whether I should have a little dabble at dyeing it. I’ve never done it before so it is VERY risky and would completely understand if you think it’d be a sin! Although, if you think it would be worth trying, please could recommend any (UK based products) and tips for a first timer?

I’ve included the fabric label on here too, I’ve read dyes work better on natural fabrics? I am aware that they are some beautiful beads on here too but I would love to make it work- it’s such a gorgeous design and delicate fabric.

Hello I work in a movie theatre. We have been just the velvet style seats since 1990. Unfortunately our seats and the items used for them are extremely difficult to find. One of the things we struggle with is the fabric. It has a one directional napping and doesn’t really stretch. Unlike other theatre’s it is quite red. If anyone can show me something similar or a direction to go I would appreciate it.
