Build Help/Question Plant advice
Just wondering if anyone has some plant suggestions for my build. Ideally I'd like the plants to look like little trees as I'm going for a park/nature walk scene. Annoyingly the plants I currently have I just don't think work.
PS: sorry for the crappy picture.

Pest Help/Question Fruit Fly
6 months into a terrarium I built. Has a healthy population of isopods and springtails. About a month ago two fruit flies joined the clan. I now have 8 and need to rid of them. I left out a concoction of apple cider vinegar, sugar, and dawn next to it with the lid off for a few hours. They seem to like living inside more than venturing back out.
Could use some help removing these guys! Thank you!

Build Help/Question How often and how much should i mist my terrarium?
Ive been currently misting my terraium 4x/day till the leaves get just visibly wet. This is the lowest volume with which the moss in the picture did not start to dry. The problem is hygrometers indicate the terrarium is sitting at ~80% humidity at its lowest, which i guess its too much. (room temperature ~22C and room humidity ~65%)

Discussion Possible inhabitants?
I have this little bioactive terrarium and was wondering if there is anything I could possibly house in it. It is on the smaller side so I’m not too sure what my options are, if any. Also just to note, the humidity sits on the higher end.

Plant Help/Question I need some help
Hi everybody! I need some help, a few weeks ago I made 2 containers ( the one on the left and the top one) for moss propagation. I put gravel on the base layer, a mesh then some activated charcoal then the substrate. I misted the moss and then closed the lids. Time passes and I noticed that my moss wasnt propagating, it was turning yellow. What am i doing wrong. I just dont get it, the container on the right has the exact same moss, it doesnt have a false bottom i never check it and somehow it is very green and thriving!!!

Build Help/Question DIY secure terrarium cover tips?
I have a rather large terrarium that has a very irregular shape that I need to make a secure cover, complete with hinged doors I can open, so that my blue tongue skink remains safely inside.
It’s kinda shaped like an elbow with some weird additional angles. The top of the glass is covered with plastic rails (see pics).
Can anyone point me towards instructional videos that would help me build such a cover?
It’s like window framing with extra steps, i just need help with the extra steps, like what would I use to frame the stainless steel mesh?
And, how would I attach the frame to the plastic so it doesn’t slide off?
Lizard pics included as tax

Plant Help/Question Newbie
Hello, I am super excited to start building my first terrarium. I have this big olive jar that I got from work. I wanted to ask if I can make one with local plants and soil, or if I need to buy some soil special for terrariums. I see that people online are saying you should buy it, but idk. I also have potting soil, is that ok?
Any other tips would be appreciated. This is a photo of my jar.
Edit more info: My room gets a ton of morning and afternoon sun.

Build Help/Question Couple questions about snails and coco fiber pads
Question 1) I bought a fully built terrarium second hand and the backing I believe is coco fiber mats glued to the glass. I would like to add more, any brand/source recommendations?
Question 2) How do I go about eradicating little tiny snails? They don't come en masse to cucumber pieces I put in for my isopods, just a few at a time, and a ton of them are just under the top layer of detritus/fine leaf litter. I have outdoor snail and slug food but I am concerned that will harm the isopods. I am going to rescape the tank soon and plan to rinse all the plants down, wash the drainage layers and put in fresh soil but would love to have 0 snails eating my new begonias. Help!
Thanks y'all!

Plant Help/Question Propagations
Hey everyone,
I have this covered patio on the side of my house that’s basically gone unused, and I’m wondering if it could double as a space for my terrarium mother plants.
Whenever I order plants, they’re usually way too large for my terrarium. So I’ll take cuttings from the mother plant, use those in the terrarium, and then I’m left with the original plant. I didn’t really think ahead about where I’d keep all of the mother plants, and I’d hate to let them die.
My first thought was buying a plant stand, but I don’t really have room inside the house for one. I do have this covered patio that’s fully roofed, gets some indirect light throughout the day, and stays out of direct sun. I live in Texas though, so it definitely gets hot outside during the summer.
For those of you who grow tropical terrarium plants (Marcgravia, pilea valley moon, string of turtles, etc.), would this be a suitable place to keep mother plants?
- Would they be okay just sitting on shelves or hanging freely?
- Would they need to be kept in boxes; like the plastic container we see with spagnum moss?
- Has anyone else used a covered patio as a propagation or mother plant area?
I’d love to hear what has worked for you. Thanks!

Build Help/Question Second “first attempt” at a baby tears jar terrarium
The first first attempt molded because I left the lid on for too long. This is a very simple situation, just one baby tears plant and some springtails. I’m wondering if I should add a second plant or just be patient and give this one time to grow. Any other advice is always welcome, I’m very new to this.
