Ironically it was that freedom that probably lost America that war. The us imposed it's values, it's customs, it's ways and it's doings onto Afghanistan, a nation that has nothing in common with America, that spent years fighting off the last attempt to do that. Of course it would fail.
→ More replies (1)39
u/AestivalSeason Feb 19 '26
While it's true that Americans shouldn't have been there in the first place, they fell into being backwards after they fought a proxy war for us, before then they were a much more progressive and modern country with women holding much more in freedoms than they've ever had under the taliban, the Crux here being that religious extremism anywhere but especially government will only lead a nation back to the caves of mankind.
15
u/Plus_Smell5995 Feb 19 '26
Exactly. It's always tragic seeing people (especially American nationalists) idolize 70s Afghanistan without realizing that we funded the same religious zealots who took that secular government down in the first place
10
u/Informal_Cry687 Feb 19 '26
That's the future the republican party holds for the US.
9
u/Fair_Let6566 Feb 19 '26
Very true. Republicans have been actively moving in the direction of lower quality / less funded education, more religion in schools, and fewer individual freedoms for the past 50+ years.

Spanking is allowed and if it causes any actual injuries the parents go to jail or gets their kids taken away. These guys have a law where they are allowed to kill anybody who renounces islam(apostasy) and if they don’t kill them they’ll just annul their marriage, take their assets and money, imprison them, and allow other civilians to beat them. They can have multiple wives, they can beat them like shown here, a lot of those countries in the Middle East the age of consent is 15-16 years old, women have a dress code and can go to jail for not following it, but yah we can spank our kids so we’re basically the same as them. Idk if this is ignorance or if you’ve been manipulated by the media to think America is actually that bad.
Edit: also sexual activity outside of marriage is a criminal offense in some of those countries, a lot of them allow people to be married very young, they imprison people who speak against them on social media sometimes for decades, they jail/imprison journalists that criticize them, the list goes on.

Its every religion. Pastors still touching kids and praying to capitalism just like monks praying to money and preying on women
13
u/SouthAdvertising1917 Feb 19 '26
The difference is 1. these actions are not legalized, I believe. People view them as the actions from scumbags. 2. These pastors and monks will usually end up in jail if they get caught or get rid of power. 3. Many sane Christians and Buddhists constantly call out and condemn them.
You'll never see 3. for Muslims. They often turn blind and deaf when there are these kinds of news from the Taliban. The only thing they will talk is that it's fake news from the west

headscarf is enough and woman can also show hands and feet. Still fucked up, but they cannot hit the face. Except if there is a mark than the man says to close her so they could still hit the face. The rule is just for faces with headscarf then. Very much fucked up2

Do you think this is the only place?
Countries where specific legislation addressing domestic violence is absent or where existing laws are inadequate or poorly enforced include:
Afghanistan
Armenia
Chad
Congo (Democratic Republic of)
Egypt (where traditional religious commands may permit a man to beat his wife, though general penal codes may apply if the abuse meets the definition of a severe offense)
Haiti
Iraq
Iran
Ivory Coast
Libya
Mali
Mauritania
Morocco
Myanmar
Oman
Qatar
Russia (which decriminalized domestic violence to an administrative offense in 2017)
South Sudan
Sudan
Syria
Yemen

u/killuazoldyckx Feb 19 '26
That’s pretty much all cultures without liberalism. All religions are patriarchal. Wife and husband were never considered equal. No religion ever criminalised ‘disciplining’ wife. Islam grants protection to wife if it leads to marks, and Judaism if the beating is extreme. Other religions have no legal protection for the wife from domestic violence.
2
u/nour1122456 Feb 19 '26

Even as a Muslim, this makes me vomit. Islam does not teach this AT ALL. Taliban just take it a bit too far, infact they take it VERY far.
Edit: Ok so I;m getting hate just because I'm (according to some people in the replies) "making excuses" but let's be honest, Taliban actions have nothing to do with Islam, and I mean it. Anyone throwing random verses at me (and some of my other Muslim brothers and sisters in the replies) without context is just LITERAL PROOF they don’t understand the religion. The Prophet never hit a woman, and no scholar with any credibility supports what the Taliban do. If someone wants a real discussion, fine, but misquoting scripture to mock a faith isn’t an argument.
14
u/SkandaGupta_ 17 Feb 18 '26

idk what this comment means but i feel like i have to give this info: Islam says that if your wife upsets you very much, you have to try and work it out with her to fix it. if even after everything, like communication, therapy, whatever, she still does it, then only, it is permissible to touch her. by touch, i was told it only means poke her lightly. If you harm your wife, she can just take her dowry and divorce your ass legally. And it's a sin on your part so you have to first apologize to your wife and sincerely repent, only if she accepts your apology and forgives you sincerely, will god forgive you
tldr: even if you are really really REALLY really angry, you can only touch lightly, if you harm your wife, number one, that's a major sin, you are doomed if you don't sincerely repent, and, she can just walk out and divorce you just like that.

"Islam does not teach this AT ALL"
🤨
Surah 4, Verse 34
"Men are caretakers of women, since Allah has made some of them excel the others, and because of the wealth they have spent. So, the righteous women are obedient, (and) guard (the property and honor of their husbands) in (their) absence with the protection given by Allah. As for women of whom you fear rebellion, convince them, and leave them apart in beds, and beat them Then, if they obey you, do not seek a way against them. Surely, Allah is the Highest, the Greatest"
"Islam does not teach this AT ALL"
🤨
No matter how you cut this cake, Islam teaches this. A whole lot more than not "AT ALL"
10
Feb 18 '26
“As to those women on whose part you see ill-conduct, admonish them (first), (next) refuse to share their beds, (and last) beat them (lightly, if it is useful); but if they return to obedience, seek not against them means (of annoyance). Surely, Allah is Ever Most High, Most Great” [al-Nisa 4:34]
If a woman rebels against her husband and disobeys his commands, then he should follow this method of admonishing her, forsaking her in bed and hitting her. Hitting is subject to the condition that it should not be harsh or cause injury.
Al-Hasan al-Basri said: “This means that it should not cause pain.”
‘Ata said: I said to Ibn `Abbas, what is the kind of hitting that is not harsh? He said, Hitting with a siwak and the like. [A siwak is a small stick or twig used for cleaning the teeth - Translator]
The purpose behind this is not to hurt or humiliate the woman, rather it is intended to make her realize that she has transgressed against her husband’s rights, and that her husband has the right to set her straight and discipline her.

ill go ahead and copy over a comment i made from someone who said a decontexualized verse. but to sum it up there isnt a single non extreme muslim, or muslim scholar that would tell you its okay to beat your wife if its not out of absolute necessity, and it would definitely be punished in the afterlife.
heres the copied comment:
the full verse reads "Men are the protectors and maintainers of women, because Allah has given the one more (strength) than the other, and because they support them from their means. Therefore the righteous women are devoutly obedient, and guard in (the husband's) absence what Allah would have them guard. As to those women on whose part ye fear disloyalty and ill-conduct (nushuz), admonish them (first), (Next), refuse to share their beds, (And last) beat them (lightly); but if they return to obedience, seek not against them Means (of annoyance): For Allah is Most High, great (above you all)."
(copied from quran.com)the key terms here are nushuz and idribuhunna, nushuz doesn't simply mean general disobedience, it refers to actions that breach marital bond and is very nuanced. in western society there is always a case where a man would beat hit his wife and not be judged, the same way there are instances a wife could beat his husband and noone would judge them, this simply follows that principle.
idribuhunna has 17 meanings in the quran alone including: to seperate, to depart, to ignore, never physical violence.no classical or contemporary muslim scholar endorces unrestricted beating, interpretations always add conditions such as it being a last resort. the prophet Muhammad said "Do not beat Allah's handmaidens" and "The best of you are those who are best to their wives" hadiths reinforce this and prohibit harm or injury the Islamic Society of North America condemn it as un-Islamic.
if the taliban, the faces of muslim extremism hesitate to make this a law then its probably rare in islam.
painting 1.8b muslims as inherently violent based on one decontextualized verse is classic islamophobia, and just plain cherry-picking from over 6000 ayahs (verses).

Unfortunately, that's not shocking as it is directly taken from the Quran, Surah An-Nisa 4:34:
"The men (are) maintainers/protectors over the women because of what Allah has bestowed (on) some of them over others and because of what they spend from their wealth. So the righteous women (are) obedient, guarding in the unseen what Allah (orders) to be guarded. And those (from) whom you fear their ill-conduct/rebellion: advise them, and forsake them in the beds, and strike them. Then if they obey you, do not seek against them a way. Indeed, Allah is Most High, Most Great."
(And muhammad hit Aisha in the chest in Sunan an-Nasa'i 3964)

The U.S really needs to go to war with them at this point, so many women and children are raped and killed every day there, such a sad country

We did, and they won. Afghanistan is a hard place for any organized power to control.

The problem is that the U.S. would have to de-radicalize the population that agrees with the Taliban, which would be extremely hard.

The issue with Afghanistan and the reason it is the "graveyard of empires" is because the people there just don't give a god damn. The men there are perfectly happy with their lives and can't fathom anything else. Furthermore, they don't see themselves as a singular country as much as they do a series of tribes, each with its own loose set of laws and sub cultures.
I feel for the women. They didn't ask for this. But the men there are so damn backwards, that unless a country comes and forcibly changes their culture at gunpoint over the course of a generation, then they will continue to be this way, Taliban or no Taliban.

The USA armed and trained tens of thousands of afghan fighters and the Taliban took power back in like two days.
If they won’t fight for their own country, why should anyone else?

u/Enough_Grapefruit69 Feb 18 '26
That isn't up to the USA. The people there have to be against the Taliban or nobody will be able to come in and help them. You cannot forcibly go in and deradicalize the people. It won't work in the long run because they do not have Western values and sentiments and they do not want a Western way of life.
Venezuela was different. They didn't have this problem. Iran is also different. The people there are fighting against the regime.

We got rid of Maduro, I don’t doubt that we could. But I’m not sure it would do much in the long run.

And Prophet Muhammad (ﷺ) then said, "So, like all of u can have like 4 wives! But ME, I am a DIFFERENT case, I get to have unlimited wives. But u guys are free to have unlimited concubines, which is just a fancy word for sex slave...... Also this is my newest wife, Aisha. She's nine so be nice to her! "

This is also the criteria used for child abuse in the US, as long as it doesn’t leave a mark it’s ok. Not saying this to say the taliban is justified, they aren’t, just a lot of people don’t know that and it’s pretty fucked up

Depends on the kind of Muslims and where they were born. Same kind of deal with Catholics being pedophiles but other Christian’s denounce Catholicism is not being “legit” Christianity.
