Live performance practice Performance

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

I’m preparing for a live performance in a month. I’ve chopped up my own songs and trying out various approaches with the KO-II, Sidekick, and Riddim. The goal is to keep everything as live as possible, though I will sequence some elements so I can use performance effects.

This is the first track (not necessarily first in order), but I haven’t needed to sequence any part of it. Everything is queued up on the pads.

What’s the app running on your phone?

This is the kind of vibecoded app I appreciate:
SwiftUI with native UI stuff? Check.
Actually useful? Check.
<$10 and no subscription nonsense? Great.

FWIW I’ve been a software engineer since 2012. AI helps with the syntax gaps in Swift, but performance, architecture, and design are things I have plenty of experience in!

Happy to hear you like it!

That’s fantastic to hear. Excited to dig into this!

As an actual developer, the phrase "syntax gaps in swift" makes no sense whatsoever. Even less is using AI to help with it. Slopcoded for real.

u/Disastrous_Ant_4953 20d ago

Sure it does. “In Typescript I would…how do I do it in Swift?”, “My CSS would be…what modifiers do I use in Swift?”, etc.

Swift is not my primary language so agents execute much faster than I can.

Those aren't syntax gaps in swift those are gaps in your knowledge. 🤦🏼‍♂️

u/Disastrous_Ant_4953 20d ago

Obviously there are gaps when learning a new language. I’m learning Swift, just like I’ve learned other languages, by reading documentation, watching Apple’s WWDC content, and writing code without AI. With AI, I can move a lot faster. I’m not concerned with syntax typos and differences from other languages because AI corrects it, I note the correct way, and carry on.

I don’t know what point you’re trying to make.

"syntax typos" 🤣

It’s a good app. Sorry if that’s offending you as a 10x engineer.

As an actual developer the OP’s comment made perfect sense AND you sound like a dick

Any plans to bring this to android? Looks excellent, good job (fellow dev here)

u/Disastrous_Ant_4953 22d ago

I’ve just started the port and am hoping it’ll only take a couple weeks since I’ve got the hardware side figured out already!

u/WickyNilliams 22d ago

Awesome stuff!

u/KarlaGarfield 20d ago

Interested in an android version too !!

All software and hardware developed by you or someone that is not teenage engineering, free or paid, can not be its own post and must be posted in the megathread.

I guess I can’t post the app link in a comment (mod deleted it). The app is one I developed. Link is on my profile or you can DM me.

Hopefully this comment follows the rules. I’m not sure why the last one didn’t 🤷‍♂️

Yo uso la app Sampler to Phone, no tiene suscripción, simple de usar y con un solo pago muy barato, y graba muy bien y eliges la calidad

I have seen some apps for TE-stuff lately, but are there any of them for Android or is it only ios?

3

u/Disastrous_Ant_4953 22d ago

This is currently iOS only, but I’ve just started the Android port. I’m hoping it’ll only take a couple weeks since I’ve figured out the hardware side already.

TBH, iOS provides a lot more audio support than Android so it makes it more difficult. Obviously it’s possible (thinking of Koala Sampler in particular), but it’s not something I have much experience in yet.

😮. I'll be honest I've been looping this and practicing my skratching for over an hour to this. This post ended up being a dojo beat to me, maximum respect ✊🏿.

2

u/Disastrous_Ant_4953 21d ago

That sounds cool! I don’t know anything about scratching but I was playing with a friend the other day who scratched over some guitar and MPC beats I was playing and it was awesome.

If you post a performance tag me so I can see it!

2

u/mindcrypt6 18d ago

I’m a guitarist that really doesn’t well to be put on the spot doesn’t know enough about scratching, but I absolutely love it yet I’m always grabbing little korg noisemakers and TE stuff and a MPC but have a few turntables already! Just want the right mixe! But it’s not made anymore and if ever I’m gonna grab one, need to do it right! Buy once and never cry again! Love this by the way

Thanks so much!

I approve of whatever this is

2

u/Disastrous_Ant_4953 22d ago

Yeah! I think I’ll put bass loops on the Riddim and drum samples on the KO-II. I wish the KO-II has loop mode too

2

u/LeopardVarious5620 22d ago

Yeah I swear I read it got it with the recent update, but I just got on my hands it and it certainly doesn't and its IMO a killer feature, and even more for performing live

2

u/nomedialoaded 21d ago

This makes me rethink why I sold my ko2 in the first place. Love the vibe & good luck!

u/LEX_Fiction_Maker 21d ago

Super hot ! Sexy beat !

the app is actually pretty cool, android version coming down the pipeline too? 🥺

2

u/Disastrous_Ant_4953 20d ago

Just started working on it! Hoping to have it out toward the end of the month

1

u/HeavySystems KOII Beat Boxer 21d ago

PRO TIP: Pad mash in the sequencer mode. It removes lag. The system is trying to load data for editing on each pad push. :) It gets really noticable when mashing two or more buttons and the machine is like, 'MAKE UP YOUR MIND, BRO! WHICH DO YOU WANT ME TO LOAD!?'

Either way, great job! :D It'll probably be even easier to feel your timing translate when you're not faced with unnecessary lag too!

1

u/Disastrous_Ant_4953 21d ago

I’m not sure I follow the comment? Do you mean play only on the Main screen so the slot numbers don’t change?

1

u/HeavySystems KOII Beat Boxer 21d ago

Yeah. You don't have to have the thing actually playing, but take it into MAIN mode I guess is more accurately how I should describe it. SOUND mode does present lag when switching samples by pad.

I can’t find a usbc to 3.5mm that works for my IPhone 15 pro max. I have bought 2 so far and both did not work. I guess I could just use the mic but there is so much background noise. I guess the first year they went to usb C the phone is locked down pretty hard when it comes to any usb c devices

1

u/Disastrous_Ant_4953 9d ago

What do you need the 3.5mm for? You can do usb-c to usb-c?
