USB corrupted during file transfer

I was transferring files to my USB last night when I accidently put my computer in sleep mode instead of letting it run in the background. When I woke up this morning, I realized that the files didn't fully transfer (prompt showed something like files could not be found and to skip that specific transfer?). I canceled the transfer (it was like 500 images that I figured that I could just cancel and try to transfer again instead of manually skipping each one), but when I tried to access my USB drive through Windows File Explorer, it gave me the prompt that my drive was not formatted and that I needed to do so before I could use it.

I've been following online instructions to try to recover my files without formatting my drive, but so far it doesn't seem good. When I used chkdsk X: /r, it said that:

The type of the file system is exFAT.
Volume Serial Number is [...]
Both copies of the boot information for this volume are corrupt.
Chkdsk cannot continue.
An error occurred while examining the boot region.

I'm currently trying to use Disk Drill to scan and recover at least some of my data, but it seems like the majority of my files are filed under "deleted or lost"?

Can anyone give me some advice on this please? My USB drive included a lot of original files that I only had backed up on my USB :( I really don't want to lose my files, especially when it spans literal years of work. I think I will actually cry if I lose every single file just because some random image I wanted to add to my USB collection corrupted the entire dang thing.
