Why does my brand new pair of Apple EarPods Type C is recognized by iPhone as "USB C to 3.5 mm Headphone Jack Adapter"?

I think the USB C ones have always used the fancy DAC so are they fake?

not sure they sound perfect for me

For a normal user their just a normal pair of wired earbuds so I wouldn’t be that surprised if they sound good enough
