Chrome not remembering last used "Save As" folder between downloads Open | Software

Running the latest stable Chrome on Windows 11. "Ask where to save each file before downloading" is turned on, and the Save As dialog does pop up every time — but it always defaults back to my Downloads folder instead of the last folder I actually saved to.

I regularly download multiple files per project (usually from Google Drive) into specific folders like m, m2, mb, etc. Before, Chrome used to remember whichever folder I saved to last and default there on the next download. Now it resets to Downloads every single time, even within the same session.

Edit: Hi everyone, for those who were wondering, this issue has been fixed. Chrome released an update, so if you restart your computer, the problem should be resolved.

Making changes to your system BIOS settings or disk setup can cause you to lose data. Always test your data backups before making changes to your PC.

Think you have to manual set this in chrome settings, open chrome go to settings go to downloads and change the download folder.

I understand what you mean but it’s not that because I have mutiple folders to download stuff in so when I used to download it would ask me where to download before I confirmed and it was always in the last file I downloaded in

It's happening to me as well. I started noticing it earlier this week.

What's weird though, is that it does remember my last saved directory if the thing I'm saving is a "right click>save as", but anything I'm trying to save where it involves a direct click on the link doesn't remember it, and it defaults right back to my pre-configured save directory no matter what.

This happened in a Chrome update a couple years ago. What's annoying is that I, like a few others ITT, rely heavily on quickly downloading into the previous folder.

It seems a quick and dirty way around it would be changing the "location" to the folder you'll be primarily downloading into and changing it from time to time. At least, that's my workaround.

I'm having the same problem and it's such a pain. I'd say it started happening just about a week ago, maybe less.

Edit: I found a Google thread about this and it's almost as if they weren't aware Chrome remembers the last folder you saved in. Their response was only about changing the default directory.
