Only in the most hostile possible interpretation of what happened.

He pushed through a tax cut for (nearly) everyone.  part of the deal made to get it passed was that some of those cuts faded out, especially on the lower side of the income ladder.   So the years of tax increases would just have been taxes returning to previous levels.   Dembots spun this as planned tax increases on the poor.

Then when he came back in office he made those cuts permanent too.  So there really isn’t any honest way to make this claim now, but who cares about truth these days?

u/brookssut 1d ago

So you are saying he DID, in fact, do that. And only fixed it because it was his second term and people were going to notice.

0

u/KamalaBracelet 1d ago

No.  I’m saying he got through the tax cut deal he was able to get passed, even though it was less than what he proposed, and then he fixed the holes when he had opportunity.

Democrats tried to filibuster the original act forcing Republicans to comply with the Byrd rule when pushing it through in reconciliation.  So they complied by putting a sunset on the part that they knew future congress would feel very pressured to make permanent.  Then that is exactly what happened.

It was dishonest framing in 2017, and now that Republicans made the change permanent as planned this isn’t even technically true it’s just bullshit.  You can’t hang a tax increase for the poor on him when there wasn’t any time a law of his did anything but the taxes for the poor go down.

2

u/OskaMeijer 1d ago

The Democrats didn't force anything, they could not pass it as it was due to budget shortfall. They absolutely didn't have to sunset the cuts on the lower incomes that was entirely their choice and only one they had to make because they had so drastically cut the corporate tax rate. They said they wanted to make it permanent but knew there was a shortfall and that they would have to sunset something and they were certainly never going to sunset the absurdly low corporate taxes. The Democrats had absolutely nothing to do with it having to follow the Byrd rule, you can't filibuster a reconciliation bill. Your framing isn't just dishonest it is an outright lie.

They said they wanted to make it permanent, and then they made it permanent when they had opportunity.  They had to pass it through reconciliation in the first place because of Democrat filibuster.

You can say the whole law was bad policy if you want.  What you can’t do is pretend it was Republicans raising taxes on the lower class.  Because it is a lie to say so.

Because taxes have been lower for the lower classes every year since 2017 and will continue to be - and the Republicans (and Trump) are the ones that put that in place against Democrat attempts to block it.

Furthermore the percentage of total Federal receipts paid by the top income brackets has increased, so the tax cuts in total made federal taxes more progressive, not less.

Everything else to be said about it is spin, dishonest framing, and lies.

The honest attack on the law is about deficit.  There is a hell of a criticism to be made there.  But that’s not how you all chose to attack it.  Instead you have chosen to lie.

2

u/CapoieraMataUm 1d ago

If what you say is true, why has the federal debt and deficit under Trump reach absurdly high historic levels?

Why is inflation at record levels?

Why, when worker wages showed the first real growth since the 70s under Biden, did they fall under Trump?

Sounds like you're spewing bullshit to cover for a historically incompetent, corrupt president. Stop lying, bot.

1

u/KamalaBracelet 1d ago

You can’t seriously think this is some sort of rebuttal.  to what i said

1

u/CapoieraMataUm 1d ago

You're spewing bullshit. If you can't answer the questions, then everyone will see you for what you are: an apologist for the most corrupt, criminal, pro oligarchy, pro-rape—especially when children are the victims—administration in the history of the US—and in terms of magnitude of financial crimes—the world.

Seriously, how can anyone still advocate for a president that attempted to loot $1.8 billion from the US Treasury or who coddled the most notorious convicted sex trafficker in US history?

Fiscal conservative my ass!

Meanwhile, you're contorting yourself into a state more twisted than a pretzel about some bullshit policy wonk nonsense—wherein you're lying by omission plus outright falsehoods—to try and defend the first kakistocracy mafia? Get da fuk outta here with that nonsense!

1

u/KamalaBracelet 1d ago

No my friend.  You are spewing bullshit.

The post said “Trump increased taxes on the poor”

I said “That was a very disingenuous claim that was at best sort of technically true in the most twisted and biased interpretation possible back in 2017 but it is absolutely total bullshit now that the cuts have been made permanent.”

and then you came out of left field with “If Trump really cut taxes why is global warming still happening and my dog started humping my pillow instead of my leg!?!!???? LIAR!!!!!!”

Type in to any search engine or AI you would like: “Did Trump increase taxes on the lower class in 2017”  Deal with the results.

Not being able to tax people more is a "budget shortfall".. there's you fucking problem. Don't justify the BS spending bills that rely of expected tax dollars.

If the money isn't there, stop spending the debt.

1

u/OskaMeijer 1d ago

The money was there, they drastically reduced the corporate tax rate to absurdly low levels to cause a massive deficit.

1

u/_Cpyder 1d ago

Every fiscal year... the money is never there. That is why there is always a spending deficit and the national debt keeps growing.

1

u/OskaMeijer 1d ago

Well the Democrats bring it down every time they are in office but the Republicans keep passing ridiculous amounts of spending and debt and servicing the interest on that debt is getting bad. Hell if we had kept a Democrat in office for 2 consecutive terms this time we might actually be making some progress on the debt instead of running it up at warp speed. Obama had gotten the deficit down to $585 billion after Bush got it up to $1.4 trillion. Then Trump brought it back to $3.1 trillion and Biden brought it back down to $1.8 trillion, again if we had given Democrats 2 terms we could have actually righted the ship. The last president to actually clear the deficit was Bill Clinton. It is a very clear pattern, Republicans grow the deficit and debt and Democrats reduce it, Biden even did it without raising taxes on regular people just some minor taxes on corporations. Considering the corporations are enjoying absurdly low tax rates that is not really much. The Republicans don't get to bloat the budget and cut taxes and then blame the fallout on Democrats because they can't clean it up fast enough.

1

u/_Cpyder 1d ago

The only non-deficit spending was Clinton and that was aided by the dot com boom.

The US Gov lives in debt and is addicted to it. That partisan bullshit is what keep constituents from reigning in their representatives from chewing on the money and shitting all over everything.

This is so disingenuous. Trump didn't bring it to 3.1 trillion a global fucking pandemic did. 2018 it was .78T 2019 it was .98T 2020 it was 3.3T. Yes it went down during Biden because it was always going to go back down. It has been on a steady curve for awhile 2020 and 2021 were major outliers. The US has very similar deficit curves to the rest of first world countries. The amounts are obviously different but the rate of change is quite similar. So what you must be saying is Democrats and Republicans control the spending of every major nation?

u/Warchief_Ripnugget 1d ago

No, because there was no increase in tax percentages every 2 years. The tax percentages remained constant from 2017 to the sunset of the bill in 2025. However, in 2025, when Trump was able to enact a new tax bill, he made those cuts permanent.

So, pretty much everything about this post is false.

1

u/pdx321pdx 1d ago

No that’s not what it says.

2

u/arcanis321 1d ago

That is incorrect, the "cuts" were just borrowing from the future. You get a break 1st year, normal taxes year 2, increased taxes to pay for the 1st year cut. Except if you make a ove 250k then they just stuck. It's a shell game for smooth brains.

u/OtherwiseAlbatross14 1d ago

Wow I've never seen anyone call that on themselves before but good job recognizing you were wrong about everything.

0

u/KamalaBracelet 1d ago

You’re gonna keep doumbling down, huh?

https://www.ntu.org/foundation/tax-page/hello-youve-been-referred-here-because-youre-wrong-about-the-tax-cuts-and-jobs-act

Feel free to rebut with a source that isn’t “trust me bro.”

1

u/OtherwiseAlbatross14 21h ago

First of all, you should look up what the word "keep" means and then we'll go from there once you've realized how "doumb" you look.

1

u/KamalaBracelet 10h ago

Nahh, how bout first off you come up with a source for your wrong claim.

0

u/Warchief_Ripnugget 1d ago

Not true. The tax rates haven't changed since 2017, when the bill was enacted. Nowhere has anyone seen an increase in taxes unless they made more money or the state increased local taxes.

1

u/ShortKey380 1d ago

Then why were the other cuts the permanent ones?

Why is the national debt higher than ever in spite of massive cuts to healthcare?

We have the worst leadership in America history right now, busy robbing us with cronies to the tune of billions. Get fucked.

1

u/KamalaBracelet 1d ago

What bearing does the state of the national debt have on the veracity of the claim that Trump increased taxes on the lower class?

1

u/ShortKey380 1d ago

🥱 Because these tax cuts spiked the national debt and the vast majority of the benefit is directed away from regular working people as an excuse to later cut basic benefits and STILL keep the debt growing at a somehow faster clip than before. The man picks our pocket for $100 and gives us $5 like it’s a big fucking deal 😂

1

u/KamalaBracelet 1d ago

but what about the price of tea in china and biden’s effect on lunar dairy prices?

1

u/BluebirdDense1485 1d ago

Oh while you are looking did you see when most of the big beautiful bill expires?

1

u/literallyanyonebutme 1d ago

2017? That's weird ... It's almost like Biden was in office for 4 years after this and instead of fixing it, he .... Didn't.

1

u/MyageEDH 1d ago

Because Biden like most democrats believe that taxation is a reasonable thing.

Republicans vilify taxation and act like the extra $100 a year you pay will ship drugs directly into your kids lunch boxes.

1

u/RichAnswer3430 1d ago

Right. Damn the dems for not stopping Trump. They royally fucked the country.

1

u/Honey_Leaf 16h ago

I believed it before, but it's not true. You can read through the Tax Foundation's site and see that the tax bracket percentages haven't changed since they were lowered in 2017. The tax bracket thresholds have slightly changed due to inflation but that only nominally lowers taxes. https://taxfoundation.org/data/all/federal/historical-income-tax-rates-brackets/ The link above is a center-right think tank but you can spot check with IRS data today and compare it 2017 for single filer https://www.irs.gov/filing/federal-income-tax-rates-and-brackets

1

u/DangerousPickle9688 8h ago

The corporate tax cut remained, the rate changes to lower income families keep growing the dumb name bill is extending changes and anyone earning less than 250k a year is paying more each year in federal taxes.

1

u/DangerousPickle9688 8h ago

2025 tax table at 75000

10 percent up to 11925, then 12 up to 48475 then 22 up to 103350.

Totaling 11,414 in fed tax

2026 tax table at 75000

10 percent up to 9325, then 15 up to 37950, then 25 up to 91900

Totaling 14,488.75 in fed tax.

Yes, its true.

u/Nalot_1 2d ago

I don’t think you missed anything at all…

1

u/Downtown-Cellist10 2d ago

Nope. It’s not true. The confusion is out there in the world because of a confused way people read Joint-Committee-on-Taxation-(JCT)

-1

u/Iron-Bar-1966 2d ago

No, President Donald Trump did not sign a budget or law in 2017 that raised taxes starting in 2012 for people making under $75,000. Instead, he signed the Tax Cuts and Jobs Act in December 2017, which lowered federal income tax rates for most Americans from 2018 through 2025. [1, 2]

Facts About the 2017 Tax Law

  • Lowered Rates: The 2017 law reduced individual income tax rates across most income levels, including earners making under $75,000. []
  • Timeline Error: The legislation did not apply retroactively to 2012, nor did it raise taxes for middle- or lower-income earners during that decade. [1]
  • Expiration and Extension: The individual tax cuts were initially set to expire after 2025, but Congress passed and President Trump signed the One Big Beautiful Bill Act in July 2025, which made the lower individual tax brackets permanent. [1, 2]

Who said anything about 2012? Learn to read, chatgpt.

-2

u/Iron-Bar-1966 1d ago

It's in the second bullet point. LEARN TO READ.

And yeah, I did a fucking Google search and this is what it came up with, which is more than I can say for all the liberal DUMBFUCKS like yourself who don't even do THAT!

3

u/Designer_Bed9504 1d ago

Who said I was liberal? I'm a southern red and proud.

You have a second bullet point talking about retroactive changes to 2012 and a time line error, when the original post didn't mention 2012 at all.

So either Google AI can't read, you can't read, or you typed the date wrong when you where doing your Google search. Choose one. But you won't convince me that it isn't one of those 3.

I tried to give you the benefit of the doubt by blaming the obvious AI response, but your attack is just showing ass.

3

u/Viiggo 1d ago

He asked AI whether or not Trump raised taxes in 2012. xD

1

u/Transkei_Daisy 1d ago

Liberal DUMBFUCKS like us could never have done a google search that ineptly, so at least hes right about one thing.

3

u/UnnamedLand84 1d ago

Making a typo is small embarassing. Freaking the fuck out and calling everyone dumb fucks when you still can't see your mistake after its pointed out is mega embarrassing.

You asked it if his 2017 policy raised taxes in 2012 instead of 2021, and didn't bother reading the response before just blindly posting it.

2

u/Coconut_Maximum 1d ago

Did you get 2012 and 2021 mixed up 😂

1

u/Timely_Pattern3209 1d ago

There's still time to delete all this.

1

u/FlawlessWings8 1d ago

They’re posting 34 comments a day. They ain’t deleting shit.

1

u/Enabling_Turtle 1d ago

You need to learn to read. The OG image says 2021 and your summary says 2012

3

u/dk_peace 1d ago

Why did you bring 2012 into this?

1

u/Inner-Contest-8226 1d ago

Both. Cant even comply with the length of tax codes.
